This actually worked for me. Thank you! I accidentally reset my combination lock code, and it's a HUGE hassle for me to get a new lock (I currently live on an island!) so it was extremely valuable for me to figure out how to crack my own lock. Definitely not trying to steal anyone's bikes! Thanks for this.
Used the method in Sir Jethro's video to crack / open a very similar-looking, Titanker 4-number combination lock, which is maybe 3 years old. It took me several tries (taking breaks between attempts due to my old, achy hands), and I had nearly given up, but it helped to use more tension, and it also helped to work the cable to it's center on the bike tube of where it was stored in order to get a better grip on each end of the lock mechanism for applying extra tension. I did this in the quiet of my garage, which helped with hearing what was happening. Going in the same order, right to left, the first number had more of click and drop-in with some play in it - the next two numbers seemed to just stick - and the lock simply slid open on the fourth number, and I'm still relishing the small victory. Anyway - it was not obvious upon finding each number and had to persist, but the method worked. Thanks you for the video, Mr. Jessop.
Neat trick! The point of locks is to reduce the temptation to steal the bike, especially by casual passers by. The pros have the tools to overcome most locks.
Just did so and it took about 10 seconds, I only had remembered that the first 3 numbers.....thanks for the video, had to remove my trashcans for major demolition
I appreciate it. My kids forgot their combinations to their locks. I’ll have to try your method to unlock them. Then tell them I used “magic” to get their locks opened😉
Thank you very much! Somebody tried to break my lock of such type, but fortunately police was near and the thief ran away before he could unlock it. However, the thief broke the lock and somehow changed the combination of it, so that I could not unlock it. Thanks to your video I found out what is a new combination, unlocked my bike and threw this lock directly into the trash bin
It works. I was able to unlock my cable lock just now. I forgot the combination i set and was able to open it now because of your helpful video. Thank you!
Thanks a lot! I was able to unlock it. I bought the lock about 20 years ago and have not been using it, so the combination number was completely forgotten. Your video helped. Thanks, again.
Thank you so much, I tried this and it worked perfectly. I just got a bike lock, and I have a shitty memory when it comes to certain things but I got in the right spot, it was 1 number off of what I wanted it to be. Thank you so much
I work at a place that had a bike lock on a railing. It has been there for years. I couldn't remember how to unlock them, but I watches a little of your video to refresh my memory and POOF! I have a bike lock..lol. The people working there weren't too happy about me taking it. But it belonged to no one. LOL. Mine Now SUCKERS! :) Thanks for the refresher course...lol
I'm a safe engineer & locksmith by trade & a professional bassist but that's another story , This only works on cheap locks ,Go for anything that has a Sold Secure cert sign , Sold secure is owned by the Master Locksmith association & and it's by far the hardest test to pass .
There’s a lock just like this on the bike rack at Publix in Cape Canaveral. I was there today and saw it and said “...bet there’s a video on this!” I’m going to go try it tomorrow. I’ll let you know how I did. Thanks. Love your accent!
I almost left you some real life hate mail thinking I was definitely not gonna be able to open it. But for the first time in almost 20 years, this damn bike lock is open!!
Just a tip, I bet a ton of comments said that keyed locks can be picked easily and it's true but people who actually pick locks are rare to come across in people who steal bikes and everyday items, and I'm in one of the worst areas in my state, but keyed locks are more easily bypassed and these methods can be heard and applied no practice involved, usually faster then on the lock you have, 3 to 25 sec is a average time for me, I practice but take a sec and see what your buying. Kryptinite bike locks 70$ range under 30 secs with a pick or paperclip and tension lol
Yup, it worked. I was sceptical but it worked on a 4 digit Masterlock. I'd started working back from 9999 and got as far as 6799 before I decided to see if there was a cleverer way. You saved me a lot of time.
I think it's a bit more difficult if you don't know the number. I think maybe it's psychological. Because I have one that I don't know the combination to and I'm having a hell of a time trying to open it. It's really cheap too.
Paul TheSkeptic I can definitely do this one with my eyes shut so it's not that. I have however tried it with a few others since I made this video and it only works on a few. Seems to be more to do with how well engineered the mechanism is
I can't lie, I was thinking bulshit whatever I opened this video. I have that exact same lock and it worked the first time that I tried it. Within 30 seconds I was in it. Good job. Thank you, I can now use my ladder that I locked to my trailer. LOL
Between you and the "Lock picking lawyer" I'm thankful MOST people are honest. I only use mine on a bike I bought from Charity shop used for local shopping. it's not worth much, but even so scumbags have tried to steal it unsuccessfully!
Little Finger you're amazing bro. Got an used bike where the lock was old and kind of stiff. This method works best by far!! Took about 5 minutes. Cheers bro!
Yup. Took less than an hour. It's a rather strong looking lock but it opened. The 2 inside numbers where the difficult ones. The outside ones clicked into place on the first spin.
Thank you dude for that video, I got stuck with my inadvertently setting a random combination which I couldn't remember, and I wasn't able to lock it again! Now I have found the ' lost ' combination 😀 But.....why throw it away?? Use it with an other lock, if someone sees more than one lock it is an additional deterrent! In many cases he will not bother and spend additional time to ' find the correct combination '
I have a level 10 security chain on my scooter but only two of these small combo locks securing the spare wheel onto the rack. After seeing thid video I am going to change the number on one of them so it will take them twice as long. Four minutes for a beginner instead of two.
saw this, wanted to try it on my abus d-58292, when you pull even just you cant change the numbers, they lock up. i did try this trick on a cheaper version looking like yours, and the trick works there :) so seems like a trick for cheaper locks
I have a chain one with a similar lock, mine has 5 number combination. I tried it but I can't do it, it feels like it clicks into place but on wrong number. Went into a store for 5 min, came back and found my lock shaft partially open, probably forced it out. Put in my combination and it still works. Had a talk with some guys asking if they saw anyone forcing the lock and they recommend I don't lock my bike in city centre. It was a 150 pound bike.
I have a Schwinn combo lock just like that and just out of curiosity I tried to find out how easy is to crack it It doesn't crack no matter how long I tried. Maybe this works for really cheap locks but not for a good one. I would suggest you try your lock after purchase and return it if it cracks.
I found a lock on the street or in dumpster, i forget and picked it up. I was able to decode it successfully once but then i messed it up or forgot the combination and now i can't decode it. It seems to have similar sort of mechanism from what i remember from when i actually had it open. The one i found is by a local store chain that imports higher quality Chinese generic products, so there can't be anything too particular about it. It is not a cable lock but a chain link one, plastic covered, and it has an LED in one of the surrounds, to make entering the code in the dark easier. I would love to decode it and actually end up using it :D I run an unattractive looking bicycle where slowing someone down by a few seconds already going to keep it secure, and i mean most bicycle locks are remarkably easy to pick or zip open, and with a combination lock i don't need to wear a key.
I used to work at Halfords where we sold these. A customer once bought one then proceeded to set the combination wrong. They brought it into me thinking they set it right and the lock was just broken, so at the counter, in front of them, in under 20 seconds, I did exactly this and demonstrated to them the combination they put it was wrong and how to set it right.... the customer then thanked me... And left with his new lock!! Really? If someone just opened my brand new lock in under 20 seconds right in front of me I'd have been a bit more "hold up, that was too easy, can I upgrade and purchase a better one instead?" haha!
It's possible they improved the design, it was a few years ago I worked there. One suggestion I guess is to try going from both ends. Try left to right as well as right to left. All else fails, 4 digits, 0-9, it takes surprisingly little time to just try every combination. Haha.
It’s not really “worthless”, these items are physical deterrents, not “thief proof”. Most would be petty thrives on the street trying to jack a bike, want to be able to do it instantly and be gone, if they have to sit there for even a few minutes trying to de-code a lock; they are at greater risk for being caught / arrested. I wouldn’t toss your lock or anything, it’s still good for locking up while in a store or a college campus, something of that nature. If your bike is going to sit for a long while, number of days, then yeah you’re quite correct in being need of an upgrade to something a little more difficult to decode.
I was aged 10 when I first discovered this neat trick, the lock was just sitting there on someones gate just begging to be opened. I used the same trick here, although my method was to first turn the barrel furthest away from the open end, although I guess they're all different but the principle is the same. I've never trusted a combination lock since, these are just giving you a false sense of security and losing you money, before you've even lost your bike.
Yep just checked this on my Halfords advance, so took it back and with a great sense of fair play and checking I was right by setting a random code and asking me to open, which I did they changed it for a key type. They are going to let mgt know.
I had someone try this on my fairly robust cable combination lock. They took 5 minutes and gave up. Then went back to popping open a variety of keyed padlocks in a couple of seconds with raking and a bit longer picking. Moral of the story is, most keyed locks are not great either.
Someone was throwing out a bike with this lock wrapped around the frame...was about to cut it, but tried your way first... didn't go as smooth, lock was out in the elements for a while, but got the job done
Bought my son this lock yesterday he locked his bike up today with it but accidentally flip the change code flap and couldnt figure out how to unlock it. This worked in about 5 minutes lol thanks
Does anyone know the standard factory code. I've found this lock in my house and I don't know wither the code is something that someone has set or the factory one, my dad has said it's never been used. Any help would be appreciated
There are locks that are harder to decode than that but most bike combo locks are pretty easy to decode. if this had a few false gates you would not have been able to get it open so easily. I would suggest a chain and a good padlock (not masterlock) instead.
my bike got stolen today on my second day back to school and im trying to see if i can find out how it was stolen, it was a veey nice voodoo bantu i got second hand for 180 then got a few thing for it and a few things serviced, ended up costing around 300 , and the train station dosnt hav cameras
That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that :( There are some real scumbags out there. Locks like this really don't do much except discourage casual thieves (hence the video). Best advice I can give is keep an eye out on ebay, marketplace etc and report it if it comes up. I do actually know someone who got their bike back this way.

Holy S this actually works. Just tried it with my MasterLock. The wheels actually do lock in place. You can’t even spin past the correct digits. 😫🤦🏻♂️
I forgot my code, than tried several methods on RUclips videos. No one is good for me. Looks like my lock is good! So what is left is to try 9999 different combinations. That's a right thing for the lockdown!))

Cheers, that lock was stuck on my bike for a couple of years. Easy peasy!!

Yeah. Mine jammed up and now I look like I'm trying to steal my own bicycle.
Brian Michael yup, mine too. I was there for about an hour. (I guess I should've left after like 8 minutes to look less suspicious, though. 🤔)
Most combination locks like this the comb piece inside is actually plastic so just grab it with two hands and snap in half
Brian Michael Hahaha.... sorry, I don't mean to laugh, but that's funny

Lmao saaaaammmmeeee

thanks for this! I hadn’t used my bike for a year and forgot the combo. as I was trying this, I cracked two numbers then finally remembered my combo 😅

And cheers from the UK for watching and leaving a comment. Glad you found it useful
Knowing the correct code has a huge impact on perception. That is why a scientific way is to have a blinded test.
It's not about science. You can see, hear and feel it through the fucking video.
He clearly didn't pay attention to the combination either, don't know why this has 35 likes from masterlock or their denialists
Found a lock just like this on the beach. It was locked. Watched your video and in less than 2 minutes I had the lock open. Great tip.
Tried it with exactly this type of lock, and frustratingly failed to break in, so will be continuing to use the same lock!

Holy S this actually works. Just tried it with my MasterLock. The wheels actually do lock in place. You can’t even spin past the correct digits. 😫🤦🏻♂️
Found that the wife bought one. And we lost the combo. This helpped. Thanks
Not working my lock seems to click and tension on numerous numbers help
I forgot my code, than tried several methods on RUclips videos.
No one is good for me. Looks like my lock is good!
So what is left is to try 9999 different combinations.
That's a right thing for the lockdown!))
On the plus side, the chances of actually having to go through all 9999 combinations is probably statistically zero
