Actually octopus can breaths in land as well as water.....on the bed octopus taking oxygen like us and in the water it takes oxygen present in water...but may be almirah was totally sealed packed so without water and also no passing air inside the almirah octopus was not able to breath...

Octopuses need to like prepare themselves to be out of water for so long. They have a sack in the bottom where they store water and are able to be out of water for a certain period of time. Deep crushed the tank, not giving her any time to gather water and she suffocated. It wasn't for dramatic effect.
