You won't be winning an award for brevity, but this is far and away the best discussion about considerations and trade-offs that I've seen. One could spend hours reading Jeff Wexler's forum and still not learn as much as you've shared in less than an hour. For a guy who's said that he hates external cabling, this video and your Panamic review don't sound like it. You're overdue for a video on external cable management. There appears to be nothing on the subject on RUclips, and little elsewhere.
Hello! I recently got a K-Tek 110CCR and I was wondering if you have to break in the tightening knuckles. Seems like I need to tighten the knuckles a lot in order to extend other sections of the pole.
@@SoundSpeeds yeah I have to really tighten mine down in order for other sections to not move and I try to extend other sections. I’m calling KTek support tomorrow and briefly emailed someone from support today asking for me to call in the morning.
@@SoundSpeeds will do! I’ve done a lot of research for my first boom and many said to get the KE110. Just surprised the the knuckles are not up to par and my hands hurt just from trying to tighten them enough so that I can extend other sections.
Allen, just a quick quip: I was about to click on this video, then saw it is 51 minutes. I am sure that your content is worth it, but I look for brevity-say, 8-10 min. _Not a criticism,_ just a thought. God you and your channel! 💛🙏🏼
Thank you for the comment and yes, this is a long video because it's in the 3BO boom op series. I can summarize everything in 5-8 minutes but when you're considering THE tool you'll use like an extension of your body... I find that more info is ideal. Might I suggest you listen to the video on your drive to set some morning?
@@SoundSpeeds website that compares the different booms. PS, trying to get one of those boom buddies shipped to Australia is a nightmare! Cheapest people I could find was 130ish euro with shipping😭😭😭
I see what you mean. Shop temporarily out of order. Try emailing Matt and see if he could get it to you directly. FYI, some models on it are discontinued and newer models aren't on there. Sorry about the Boom Swinger. I was responsible for getting them to the US but that's all I was able to do.
An eye wateringly detailed video on boom poles from someone who knows boom poles with all the considerations.
Truth
I had no idea there was a master class on boom poles. Thanks so so much!!!!
Sure thing. Thanks for watching.

You're right on an external cable management video. You might like this shorter video on boom selection: ruclips.net/video/ciQqtL9SN3Q/видео.html
Thanks for making this video... I was thinking... "Wow... He made a video just for me."
It's been long awaited - on my list for a long time so I brought it up.
I bought the Ktek Airo boom pole, my hands always get super sore, will I get use to it?
Yes indeed. It takes time and familiarity but you may also try changing your technique a bit to see if it's easier to hold another way.
Hi, any thoughts about a coiled internal cable and a straight one? Is the coiled one "louder"? Thx!
Technically yes all else being equal. It'll roll and spring inside the boom pole if you swing it too fast or aggressively.
You are an incredible resource, Allen. (Make a list of all of the "pole" joke comments you have deleted, and post separately.)
I don't hide many comments. Only 2 or 3 in 2+ years and those were because of inappropriate comments to another viewer.
Thank you very very much for this video
Sure thing. Thank you for watching.
Just what i needed! Thanks Allen!
Sure thing.
Really Right Stuff Boom Poles review please
Didn't Curtis Judd just do that review?
@@SoundSpeeds he did! ok thanks will chl it out but as a boom op whats ur take have u used any of their ones
I haven't even heard of them until yesterday. I'll reach out today and see if they're willing to send one to a pro boom op.;-)
@@SoundSpeeds :)
We'll see what happens
Matt Price's cheat sheet is nowhere to be found and his app is disabled. Weird.
I see what you mean. 😥

The wider diameter with same number of threads per inch mean you have to travel more distance to get a lock but it should still be around 1/4 turn.

Hearing you say "properly" externally wrap a cable makes me scared that I've been doing it wrong
I'll need to make a video about it
@@SoundSpeeds Please do, it'd be an interesting watch!
I'll do it in Fall
Sounds like a lot of heavy lifting. Pole, microphone, XLR cable on the pole and on the ground for a wired connection. Back breaker. 😣
You don't know the half of it. Check this out: ruclips.net/video/JsG7X8636kg/видео.html
Looks like that website is gone
Which one?
