I've always felt Akatsuki is the one song in their collection that I can't imagine being sung by anyone else. And yes I agree her ability to hold out notes is one of the main things that shines in her singing.

As a Su-metal (for lack of a better word) fanboy even more than just a Babymetal fan...
You are right that these kinds of songs/performances really show cases her qualities and it feels personal, she could emote already really good at ages below 10 years old, their are videos of that on RUclips as well. So personal, I feel the most connected with her than any other singer in human history, despite the language barrier.
She has innate talent and done a lot of hard work to be able to keep notes and hit them with amazing accuracy. What is amazing, she was only 16 at these performances. Not only can she perfectly end the note, she can increase the power of the note at the end as well.
You got to the essence of her singing talent, hitting notes and keep it that way, forget vibrato, we don't need it. ;-)
The use of dueling guitars and the name of the song is nods to X-Japan, a famous Japanese metal band.
Nope, no keyboard playing during performances, even though Babymetal's music does have a whole backing track often includes keyboard.
32:51 everything in Babymetal is done with a purpose, often many purposes and you are probably right, they did it for both how it looks, but also to allow her more breath.
33:34 if you wonder about her emotions, go to 24:58 those are tears. And it's not because of the big day, it's because she wants to perform it with all her emotions. Her whole mindset is all about passion and emotion. She almost doesn't think, but feels her way through life.
I also don't know how she can sing with what most be a lump in her throat ?
PS also notice how they changed their lights from red to blue, a very distinct way of Babymetal lighting choice.

There are reasons we call her queen and goddess . you just witnessed why . ❤ 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Lots of metal singers have got range and power (Tarja or Floor), but Su's one of the few singers I know that can be that expressive of emotions in her singing. From her facial expressions, the pained smile, to how she's singing with slight hesitation like she's choked up with emotion.... She's not just a vocalist.... That's one of the many reasons I like her, she doesn't just sing a song, she performs it... From facial expressions, to her own interpretive dance moves, its a whole package.... If a western pop singer sings a sad ballad, they might just lower their eyes a bit, a slight frown... When Su does it (like in Akatsuki Unfinished or No Rain No Rainbow), you can hear the cracking of her voice, the slight choking back a sob, the sadness behind that smile... Better than some hollywood actresses. 🤘🦊🤘

Suzuka came from ASH, Actors School Hiroshima, which funny enough doesn't seem to produce actors, but stage performers for singing and dancing.
I do think they teach them a lot about being performers, but Suzuka's talents in singing and performance are in a huge part innate. I wouldn't be surprised if ASH did bring it out in her, like unlocked it. What is also great of course, Kobametal always wants to bring out the talent in the girls, well young women now and put it on full display, so Babymetal is a the perfect way for her to show it to the world.

their was a lot of discussion in the past among fans, sweat or tear at 24:58 and the best way to have figured it out, during the next performance that evening, Babymetal Death, you can see her make up has leaked from her eyes, so the biggest consensus is: tears.
This young lady knows how to emote.

like others have said it is hard to believe Su had just turned 16 with the unfinished version and then the other was three months later. in the unfinished version they had just done Headbanger and then the next song after this was Death. this song was saying she was getting ready to die and be born again. how many 16 year singers can bring so much emotion into their voice? very very few. Su to me is not just a singer but a performer. that is why so many love her because she can perform in a way that you are touched by her. i have seen her sing live and you can definitely feel her voice when you hear it for real. she is not perfect because she does mess up but to me that makes it even more special. i have seen many bands that don't sound anything like what you hear on a cd but Babymetal is different. when you see them live they are better sounding to me. Su's voice sounds so amazing unfiltered. don't get me wrong i still love the cd version but just something about a song being live by them is just so much better. again how many bands you want to hear live over cd? very few.

"AKATSUKI DA!" The only song that Su-metal announces the title of at the start. ❤
    The piano is backing track.
The feeling of connection is natural with this song as she is singing about remaining connected to her soul-mate throughout time and space and even beyond death. You will see her holding her pinky finger up at times. This represents the red thread in Japanese lore that ties soul-mates together at the finger.
Highly recommend the follow-up to Akatsuki, "Amore" live at Wembley.

There will certainly be other comments making reference to what I am about to say. But "unfinished" seems incorrect to me. "Piano version" or "acoustic version" seems more appropriate to me. The song was already recorded, ready when this show (Legend 1997) took place. If you're curious, you can watch it on RUclips, here
    ruclips.net/video/2MxjYubs_28/видео.html
(Legend I) - BabyBones dubs the guitars and people buy into the idea! This version in "Legend 1997" seems like an option made to prepare for what would come next. That epic version of "DEATH" that has a reaction on this channel!!!

Wow! Personalized clickbait tittle, nice! It seems it worked, haha...
"Akatsuki" is my absolute personal favorite song. And that performance from the Budokan Black Night show is also my favorite. I know there are technically better performances, mainly because of Su's more mature vocals. But it is special to me because watching her three solos from that concert was what made me a die-hard fan.
To summarize: this song has four of my favorite things in metal (and in music in general):
    - Dueling and then harmonizing guitar solos. I'm a sucker for that and I can't help it.
    - Beautiful bass lines. Many can't hear it but BOH even has a video from a stream playing it alone (without any backing track). And it's impressive.
    - Incredible drum work. Aoyama is a human metronome. I totally love how drums (and also bass) are used to transition flawlessly.
    - Su-metal (needless to say more).
The Unfinished version is a freaking work of art. Su is incredibly good at conveying emotions. And she was only 16 here, which is crazy.

Hey Legacy. Ok, so gunna hopefully answer a few questions for you. First, before I forget the earpiece malfunction. As far as I know there wasn't anything wrong with her earpiece in this song. But with all the moving around these girls do in general, and the fact that at their age at that time they were still growing, I am just assuming that her earpiece was falling out with the sweat, and maybe her ears had grown a bit more than when she originally had the IEMs molded for her ear. As far as I've ever known the only song where there was a malfunction that caused any issues for Su was the song I mentioned a couple days ago, Tales of Destinies. In that one her earpiece died and so she had to go by the feel of the song or something like that. I read the interview a long time ago so I forgot the actual specifics as I have a horrible memory.
With regards to emotion, the unfinished song does in fact have a lot of emotion in it. To the best of my knowledge, while yes it WAS the song before "the big event" as you called it (cute way of saying it lol), there is something else that I think she tapped into for the emotion. It was during this year where Su was going to be graduating from Sakura Gakuin, the school that had CREATED Babymetal. From what I understand (I could be wrong, but this is what I understood from conversations with other fans), the girls thought that once Su graduated from SG Babymetal would dissolve since she was no longer in the school and Babymetal was one of the SG groups at the time. As a result Su was quite emotional, and the other girls were quite emotional. In one of the songs you could EASILY see Moa crying while they were performing because they thought this was the end I've been told, and if you get to know Babymetal well enough you'll come to realize that Moa Idolizes Su. So does/did Yui for that matter. You can actually see the tears running down Su's face in the song, that wasn't sweat. You can ALSO see that wasn't sweat because before the emotional part when you get the couple closeups of Su's face you'll notice there isn't really that much sweat on her. Now fast forward to Babymetal Death, which I know you said you watched. If you rewatch it by yourself, take a close look at her face when Yui and Moa puts on the neckbrace and Moa goes to straighten Su's hair. You'll see Su's make-up is running. It was running from the tears of Akatsuki Unfinished song. It's a bit harder to see in this version of the video because of all the blue light, but there is a Babymetal fan who goes by the name of Buttons who is apparently very good at video editing and Buttons filtered out a lot of the Blue lighting and as a result the picture is actually quite a bit better and you can see much more details. Including the crying.
Now in terms of Su standing up. I THINK that was just for dramatization, ALTHOUGH it could ALSO be because her foot had fallen asleep. I say this because go back and jump to the point where she stands up. You'll notice she kind of limps for a split second. Like she had pins and needles. For some reason people miss that detail until I show them that. To me it just jumped right out at me first time I saw that.
Couple other things I'll mention. In terms of emotion. Su does one other song that I can think of off the top of my head that is full of emotion, but it's a very specific version. No Rain, No Rainbow is a very special song for Su. It holds a great deal of importance to her and she has sung it a few times throughout the years but she was never happy with it as she felt she wasn't mature enough for it and didn't have enough life experiences to be able to do the song justice. Finally on her 20th birthday during her 20th birthday concert Legend S Baptism XX version, she knew she was finally hitting the emotions she wanted when she saw people in the audience crying while she sang the song. So that might be another song you might want to check out.
The other artist that I've mentioned before, Morissette Amon has also got a song that is FULL of emotion and I think it is a song you will very much like as it is a song where she is looking for Messiah. As such it is called, "Could you be Messiah". I'd HIGHLY recommend the One Take version as you can hear the emotion in her voice at the end of the song. Akatsuki Unfinished, No Rain No Rainbow, Could you Be Messiah, and actually Babymetal's love song to their fans, called The One, and their song Shine all get me a bit teary-eyed when I listen to them.
Anyhow, hope that helps a bit. In response to your statement from your last video to me, you're welcome. I know some people are a bit uh... toxic... to you. But maybe I'm wrong but I suspect you have a bit of Asperger's Syndrome in you. Both my brother and I do, although his is much more pronounced. As such he'll say things that he means one way but people just don't understand and take a COMPLETELY different way and as such they get offended easily. You don't need to confirm or deny it. Not my place or business, just an observation. It just annoys me when people attack others and bully's others, ESPECIALLY online. It is so cowardly in my mind. ESPECIALLY online. At least real bullies will bully somebody face to face. Online Bullies are just that. Online. Virtual. They're even worse in my mind. I was bullied for most of my life, so I have no tolerance for it when I see it. Might also be the reason why one of my favorite songs of Babymetal is IDZ lol. Because it talks about ending bullying forever.

I agree with your point about vibrato. Excessive use can ruin the music for me. In fact, it's what bothers me the most about many female fronted Japanese bands. They tend to have a very fast vibrato with a high amplitude, and often use it on every note that's held for more than a millisecond, and have it start right at the beginning of the note. That's the worst for me. Su uses vibrato very sparingly, and when she does, it's rather subtle. I prefer that a lot.

    Very nice analysis!
By the way, since she was a little girl I have always felt that she sings with the power of her hands.
Her hand gestures are beautiful and powerful. I think the secret of the power of her singing may come from the actions of her palms and fingertips.
Akatsuki also has this kind of hand power, but one of the most obvious examples is the song "THE ONE - Unfinished ver. / THE FIRST TAKE". At the 1:58 mark of this song, I felt the beauty of her fingertips synchronized with her voice, giving her voice a special power and bringing the song to life.
I would be interested in hearing your analysis of those aspects as well.

Su is an exceptional vocalist across the board and it shows how long she has been working at it. There are several videos on YT that show her performing at younger ages. Flawless vocal control aside, she has a BIG voice, which is not really typical for Asian singers historically. And her showmanship is faultless. In my opinion there are two types of showmen, those who have to work hard at it every day to keep their edge and those who are born with it, where things come more naturally. Su is the latter and not the former. Two more solo performances you should react are "Amore" at Wembley Stadium and any live version of "No Rain, No Rainbow".
If you like great vocalists, you will appreciate Yuko Suzuhana of Wagakki Band just as much. She's a bit older than Su but has been at it for a long time prior to forming Wagakki Band in 2015. She is a classically trained musician on piano and keyboards since the age of 3 and the classical Japanese singing/poetry style Shigin starting at age 5. Her mother is a prestigious music professor. At the same time, Yuko was trained in traditional Japanese dance, with both the fan (shi) and the sword (ken). She also composes and writes lyrics for her compositions. She is also an instructor in Shigin at university. She is also a born showman and is an astounding live singer. If you are interested, you should react to live performances of "Sabaku no Komoriuta" (Desert Lullaby), "Nijiro Chouchou" (Iridescent Butterfly), "The Aria of Life", "Queen of the Night" and one of her solo performances "Cradle of Eternity", where she collaborates with the Kami Band. There's a gentleman named Frank Garcia who has put in English subtitles in a number of WGB's videos where they are easier to understand. He has put in a LOT of work on this, they are on his YT channel. I don't know if you have ever reacted to Wagakki Band, but you should, they are amazing.

    It’s pronounced “Akats-ki”
You don’t actually say Tsu, just Ts, and it’s pronounced the same way you would say SporTS. The meaning of the word is Red Moon (or Crimson Moon if you’re fancy like that)

The syllables break on the ah-kah-tski.

Your comments about vibrato has officially made you my favourite reactor. The extreme over-use of vibrato, especially by American singers, has made me HATE vibrato. American singers seem to use it to show off, while holding a note is SO MUCH harder. Vibrato is just vocal masturbation.

Please check out Mari Hamada, she started as a metal singer in the 80's, still singing today, her voice only has gotten stronger/higher! Blue Revolution for a classic, Stay Gold for 2015-ish. Her sister, Eri Hamada has the same range, they could almost exchange parts (and they do in some songs!) except Mari has a much stronger voice. Mari can vibrato or not vibrato like no one else!
