VAMPIRE SURVIVORRRSSSSSS Vampire Survivors setting the standard for the genre being so inexpensive is one of the most heroic moves of the 21st century.
I have Vampire Survivors (VS) and I like it, it's a fun game for sure. What could make it even better is if it was made into an actual adventure/rpg game where you could travel the country side, enter dungeons, fight bosses, find treasure, and work your way through a story. The gameplay can be identical to what VS has, but the leveling would have to be slowed down and toned down some from what it is now since VS is made with 30 minutes in mind. Also, the enemy spawns would need to be dialed back, at least in the earlier dungeons and levels. Also, multiplayer would be fantastic in such a game as well.
was surprised to see you make a video like this but I really like it and would love to see more of this kind of content if you decided to do so. It's quite impressive how you manage to get so many points across in under 10 minutes
*** What's an "Ikki" in the first place? *** "Ikki"* is a thrilling period drama game SUNSOFT released in Japan in 1985 for Famicon. It's one of SUNSOFT's classic retro games, which came to be known as the original "bad game" due to the fact that the game had you start an uprising...with only one or two people(players). *Ikki means "uprising" in Japanese. Ikki is the first game of the 'genre' for the NES.
@@adsr3870 I say the same to you what I did to the person above - I looked up gameplay of it and it doesn't look like Vampire Survivors at all. Just because it's a top-down shooter it doesn't mean it's Vampire Survivors.
Loved the video my man very well put together and highly digestible because of the length in my increasingly busy life lol shortly after vampire survirors came out I saw a version of it adapted as a minigame in a mobile game I quite often play and I found it really really fun, so it was very cool to kind of see where that originated too
There are hundreds of clones. I was wondering if I missed some sort of game jam, where the games are based on the same idea and concept game. They are so alike as to be almost just reskins of the same game.
Probably not the type of esthetic you are used to, but I would recommend playing Synthetik, it has a lot, and I mean A LOT of replayabity. A roguelike 80s cyborg shooter, might want to check it out
@@ShuffleFM You’re missing out. There’s a good balance of tactics and mechanical skill needed (the ratio of which varies wildly depending on classes) and the skill ceiling is just titanic
Have you tried Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde? It's in EA, $5 on Steam. It has much prettier 2D art than VS, 15 minute limit on each game session, unbounded maps, and end bosses.
I absolutely love how everyone talking about this game can't get that it was clearly made as a troll game with absolutely unserious names for almost everything. Literally every name that's not a common castlevania trope is a pun (often quite blasphemous) in neapolitan Italian. The name Belpaese means beautiful country and its a pun on the name Belmont and means beautiful country, which is often used to refer to Italy. Arca Tadonna on the other hand is a couple letters removed from on an Italian profanity calling into question the Virgin Mary's virginity.
You say something like "VS and clones", but if i'm not wrong, VS is not original itself. There were custom Warcraft3 player-made maps with exactly the same gameplay.
You don't have to even go that far back or be obscure. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few mobile games that came out before VS. This being inspired by mobile games also explains the passive like gameplay and the lootbox being so interesting with it's presentation.
I don't really think it will have a historical impact on gaming as a whole, like that claim just sounds wayyy overblown. Genre-wise I would just call it "aggressive dopamine button simulator", since it has the slot machines, the meth-like in-and-out-of gameplay progression, the hordes of mobs, and those have existed to some extent in so many other games, shapes and forms. Gambling, cards, stimulants, Diablo-likes, Borderlands-likes, rouge-lites.. Idk they all assault you in dopamine in a very similar fashion imo
And I'd make the distinction between a rogue-like and rogue-LITE. I might be sperging out over it since I'm into both but the former *should* look and feel more like the 1980 Rogue than DDII
This isn't #ad! All the games are currently on sale for the Steam Winter Sale :O
You should keep making videos like this occasionally. Good stuff.
Thank you!

Really enjoy this sort of longer form video essay as opposed to guides or just vods, you have a great voice for it!
Thanks! I was actually pretty worried if people would like my voice for it since it's different from my normal stuff.

if shuff recommends, buying it for myself this year
I linked them all in the description and they're all on sale right now :)

Actually I believe Magic Survival by Lemme was the first game which had such gameplay.
Release date Oct 31 2019.

@@NoraNoita I just looked up some gameplay of that game... it looks VERY different from Vampire Survivors
Erhm... Crimsonland?! It was released in '03 for fuck's sake. Why does everyone think this is some new genre.

As someone that spent a good chunk of my childhood playing Gauntlet on the NES, VS was a very fun title

I think I bought it a while back. Never played it D:
"One of the best damn games i've ever played" according to sseth, and i absolutely agree with him.

Reminds me of The old xbox 360 game " i made a game with zombies in it" that was fun
Reminds me of how "Banished-like" genre that took over the city sims.
The problem I now have with Vampire Survivors is I made all the characters OP and have nothing left to do...
"HoloCure - Save the Fans!" is like Vampire Survivors but cute and free
Been meaning to play that one
I’d say they’re more bullet heavens if you’re making the bullets.
Was eyeing this game on steam. I was glad to see you had a review on it.
Love this sort of content, Shuff!
Shout out to the OG survivors game, magic survival
Definitely not the most polished or well known but technically the first
Nope, crimsonland.
Here in 2024 and “Army of Ruin”
Is one of the newest more polished bigger budget but still a nice bullet heaven
I'll have to check it out
Hell yeah Shuffle, go off
many describe this gameplay as bullet heaven

I'll have to look!
Vampire Survivors: Exists
Mobile game ads: WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN!
This is a video essay!
Can't wait to see more surviverlite games in the future

Nah the names and stuff are pretty easy to see the game is messing with the player, I just didn't call attention to it :P
You will love what my friend is cooking, a game named Nanoking, Viking theme and 16bit 👍🏻 by RunicDices
isnt calling this a new era of gaming a little bit of an overstatement? its just a few similar games popping up
Time will tell :)
You say something like "VS and clones", but if i'm not wrong, VS is not original itself. There were custom Warcraft3 player-made maps with exactly the same gameplay.
You can always trace it back to a wc3 custom game haha. There needs to be a documentary on this *begins scribbling notes*

I think that now steam needs a new tag called "Reverse bullet hell" hehehe
I couldn't get into VS but 20 minutes till dawn was pretty fun. Probably gonna buy Brotato now :D
Its slow at beginning but once you unlock stuff, it begins to get fun and addicting til you unlock everything
Have you tried Boneraiser Minions?
You should try nuclear throne
É um jogo incrível
Bullet hell is the wrong name, its a bullet heaven because you are the bullet hell for enemies.
if vampire survivors was so good, then why isnt there vampire survivors 2? 🤔
😊
fr i wonder why this has so much impact, bc it doesnt LOOK like a good game to me. note: i didnt start watching im still at the ads

No joke I had a segment discussing the differences and cut it because I thought no one would care haha
@@ShuffleFM Great choice
Vampire survivors is worth every penny, literally 5 cents for an hour of gameplay and feels like you’re on crack
