    You picked up some interesting tools. It's been decades since x acto made their tools available in the nice fitted wooden boxes. I still have mine. I never knew Channelock made a version of vice grips. Always learning something new here. It looks like one of the blue vinyl end pieces on one of the Channelocks is on upside down. I will speculate that the letters on the masonry chisel is the name of a previous owner.

    You scored a lot of nice tools in this haul. Some of the Popular Mechanics tools were sold at K-Mart. I have a Popular Mechanics 1/4" drive ratchet and socket set that I bought there. It's been my go-to 1/4" drive set for 20+ years. It's withstood a LOT of use (and occasional abuse) and still feels almost as good as my SK and Snap-On 1/4" ratchets.

    I see why newer screwdrivers have the flat in line with the corner. It’s thicker corner to corner, makes for less chance of bending it. And because it’s a higher chance of damaging the project, theres a lower chance of using it as a pry bar.

    Not than I'm a member of the "Patina Police" but the wooden cladding on the Stanley ratcheting brace is most likely stained or weathered Beech rather than Walnut. They switched from Rosewood to Beech after Rosewood became more expensive to get. If you want to try something interesting, Lee Valley used to sell an adapter that could work with that chuck and featured a 3/8" socket driver. You'd be surprised at the amount of torque you get from these braces!

    Is there a reason, especially on some of the steel tools that would rust, not to spray them with some sort of shellac or clear coat? I know you wouldn't want to get any of that into the grooves on the end of a screwdriver, and you wouldn't want any of that inside the inner workings of a set of vice grips, but on something like the shaft of that brass hammer a clear acrylic might protect it from rust and keep it shining

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 месяца назад +1

      Absolutely- My home is climate controlled and low humidity so rust isn’t an issue but if these were going in the garage they would have to have a protective clear coat of something. 😃👍
