  • In this video, I cut some tatami mats with the new Byakko Katana from the Balaur Arms line of swords that Kult of Athena sent to me for testing. I was impressed with the performance of this relatively inexpensive katana. As can be seen in the video, it cuts through tatami, even thick double mat targets, with ease.

I can never judge the quality of a sword by these videos unless the man actually gives details about balance, weight, etc., because I’m convinced this guy could do triple-cut combos with a piece of rebar if he wanted to.

I take it as inspiration that skill can overcome many challenges when using blades which are not optimized cutters.

TBF he didn't put "review" on the title just "cutting tatami with." Look at his video library and you'll see the actual reviews titled as "review."

I see that they also have a blade in Sirasaya. That might be a good starting point for a project piece. Does the Hamon look like it was quenched in water or oil? It's hard to tell from here.
