I spent many years extracting honey in a dilapidated shed with a hot knife and a hobbyist's extractor - no running water, no heat/AC and no way to keep bees out. I then strained and bottled in my kitchen. What an enormous waste of time and effort!! I finally got to a point of all-in or all-out with beekeeping - either I invest in a proper honey house and equipment like yours or I get out, altogether. I chose the latter. Congratulations on your fantastic honey house and spectacular collection of equipment!! Thanks for creating and sharing another great video!!
I think you should run the honey pump. Place a sump between the wax press and the extractor. Then, use the pump to move the honey to the settling tank. No more lifting buckets of honey into the settling tank. Either way, nice set-up and great video.
Yes. That's the standard way. Decant from extractor/wax cappings press into sump then pump to settling tank, but I just don't have the floor space for pump/sump and find I can more than keep up with decanting 30 litre buckets as the uncapping is automated and frees me up to move the buckets
Wow, Laurence, such an amazing setup you've got! Lyson is top quality brand, so if you treat it well it will last forever (and it looks that you do, because it's shiny as if it was brand new). Also the distribution of the room is very clever, you've maximized the space so well. Bravo!
Hi Laurence, the top comes off the extractor quite easily. You can then lift out the spindle. Not necessary in most seasons obvs, but does allow a very thorough clean. Great room, great video 👍
Hi Lawrence, very professional setup you’ve got for yourself there mate, looks like you have payed for the very best yes lyson is top notch and well made none of the plastic equipment you see on some sites , If I was 30 years younger and had a lot of your get up and go we could be in competition with each other but alas I’m a lot older and I’m happy with my 17 hives and my second hand honey spinner I’ve converted to take a drill instead of hand cranking. Thank you Lawrence for all your hard work and dedication you have for your subscribers and all the good work you do with your bees.
Very nice set up Laurence. In the process of upgrading my equipment and have gone with a 32 frame Logar automated extractor & a Swienty Dana Api Matic 1000 with 45cm turntable. I will be speaking to Abelo about a creamer, Apimelter & settling tank. Can’t wait to get it all into use 👍.
@@BlackMountainHoney I’m going to connect to a tank as I typically bottle larger batches and it would frustrate me having to keep stopping to refill the funnel.
V nice.. looks like you have quite a decent production capacity.. but since you ask.. I would have my extractor situated higher so I could run it into my storage buckets directly.
How do you mean? Honey out of the extractor needs filtering prior to to storage, else it needs filtering post storage. We in fact do both as a double precaution but the extractor can get fit a 80lb bucket underneath it? Why does it need to be any higher?
I can absolutely confirm that soft set honey is amazing. I put the last spoonful on my toast this morning 😂. The room looks excellent and definitely wouldn't want your bill for all that equipment either😳
@@BlackMountainHoney was fed up borrowing the association hand crank extractor so we invested in the extractor, lyson wax melter (small one) and an uncapping tray
Hi Lawrence, I'm thinking of writing a book for bee keepers..... "How to bee proof your honey house in 873 simple steps" you face doing the foreword. lol
Nice little compact and functional honey room/house It took me 10 hours to extract, jar and label my 4 supers in August last year 🙃 I don't think I can go semi commercial on my set up, but my total set only cost me close to £300 I guess yours cost a touch more 😅
That is one great setup, i am just building my honey extraction room and i was a bit worried i did it to small. But i see now with a similar setup as you have, it will work just fine - Thanks for sharing.
Are you sure your not sponsored by Lyson? 😜🤣 Great set up in a compact space. I’m very lucky to be able to use my Dads honey room saves a lot of money!
you can use LEAN and isx sigma methodologies and conduct time and motion studies to improve the efficiency....i think the height of the first machine is more and if there is space the loosener can be in placed in between the capping press and the extractor
Hi Laurence, Great video thanks. Question: What would you suggest the minimum distance from bees to a honey room? I have very limited space. Thinking of splitting the apiary with a high net fence - bees on one side and shed for extracting , jarring and candles on the other. I would be interested to hear your thoughts buzz. Is it crazy to even consider close proximity to the bees?!
G'day Laurence, love your setup. Looks like you thought it through well, before you put this one into action. Being a restaurant owner, I appreciate all your gleaming, clean shiny equipment and surfaces. Cheers!
Revamp looks to be a great layout, but seeing all those sockets at the on position when nothing plugged in..... Enjoying your soft set honey just a little more than the borage but only had a little of each so far., So your creamer is doing a great job.
I have mostly national supers but recently bought commercial supers as they are easier assembled and hold more honey in one lift compared to national, so I am nearly half and half now. All deeps national BTW. I hope to expand more and more every year and will probably need an uncapper at some point. How big was your operation when you got the uncapper? and is there ones out there that would take commercial and national? I seen a chain uncapper that I think might work. Would love to hear your valued opinion
Wow ! what’s the heat in there when all that’s going you may need air conditioning if we get a hot summer as you said the power trips if run to much kit you mite need a back up power source those little bees are just amazing they have definitely changed your life.
Really interesting. On seeing the work and your effort that goes into your honey extraction process. A one man (plus nephew), production line. Impressive. P. S my mother in law is loving her Christmas present honey gift set!!
I've been looking at building a shed to extract in as the 3x2m utility room is a bit on the wee side 😂 I'm going through the building regs and was wondering how you got round the waste water stuff? My understanding is we really don't want to put wax down the normal drains. Do you collect it somewhere?
With the Karndean flooring, did you seal it as well? I have Amtico flooring in my hallway and kitchen and didn’t realise it wasn’t sealed when installed. So I do it once a year. Then when it’s looking a bit worn, just strip it back and reseal it again. It will last a lifetime then :)
Love you videos and how open u are with how you do your honey extraction and operation. I am in the process of starting my own beekeeping operation here in my country and these videos are very helpful as didn’t even know about a creamer machine.
So you never knew the beauty of hand kranking on 40c , 30m from the hives, at age 7,8,10... on some tini island that 30 hives can cover.. Or the buzzz in your head for days and nights after it
Hi laurence, looks great, I purchased the heated 50 litre creamer and its been a bug hit. When I dump a 20 litre pail i have been removing the motor and lid as I prop the bucket so it can drain any thoughts ? Was thinking of weldin up some bucket holders wide enough for rim of creamer??
looks great! clean look to it, and a lot more spacious without all those honey supers! I honestly don't know how your gonna work in such a tight spot! could I ask where you got your lino and the cladding from? many thanks
