@LAORTIZ20 2 reasons: Firstly, they nerfed Ryu to the point that a lot of players felt he wasn't good enough to win tournaments any more. Secondly was the existence of Yun and Yang, two very strong characters who a lot of people were using (meaning a lot of them in tournaments) who are a very bad match up for Ryu. Now Ryu has been improved a little, and Yun and Yang nerfed enough to no longer appear in tournaments, so he's a safe choice to use again.
In 2009 everyone wished death upon Capcom for giving us OP Vanilla Sagat. 2 years later everyone cheers as he defeats the current OP character. THE IRONY.
@Demoniq I agree 100%. But I still want to want to him the benefit of the doubt, since he has proven in many games that he plays characters according to how he feels about the gameplay, & he is really good at playing to the characters' strengths acc. to his style--rather orthodox. What I find interesting is that it's no like Justin Wong, he's mainly playing SF, that's it; while JW plays MK, MvC, SF, or more. If this continues by Oct. (Seasons Beatings), then he will be under a lot of scrutiny.
@RASHED786 well they came from the official blog BUT you are correct in casting doubt on their completion: maybe this is just the info they're releasing for now, and maybe there will be more to come. But there's also the possibility that this is it for Ryu. The SF4 team has a habit of updating their blog on a character trio basis; once they cover 3 or 4 characters, they're done with them and they move on to other characters. I don't remember them ever talking about 1 character more than once.
@JuriQOA many things about yun are great. his divekicks allow for inane pressure, he has a command grab with ridic range on the ex version, a dp that is safe on block versus a good amount of the cast, his st.mp has insane range and also goes into his tc, his palms make it very hard to pressure him with fireballs or even setup a fireball game, he build meter stupid fast and his super is one of the most dmging in the game. and i still left out atleast 50% of te reasons why hes so strong.
@Miracles97 He was tired of people questioning his skill, and he's going full out with the best character possible. He has not done this since he was using V Gouki at 16. This is why he's using Yun... Despite his Ryu being amazing.
In my opinion Alex Valle did a great job with Ryu in EVO 2011. One of the best match i've ever seen. Ryu was and still is a good character, I think that you can even win a tournament with him. I main Ryu since SSIV!
@SBDtoxicmist That's how he's meant to be, he's a tank that can keep away really well and hits hard. Although he's slow, he's surprisingly nimble with his c. short c.jab and forward dash pressure
@Anfmethodjor U know i never really thought about the fact JWong plays pretty much everything out and Daigo mainly plays SF. Guess that leaves less room for error since he's only in maybe 1 tourney seriously (i believe he did enter the MVC3 tourney at Evo, but I dont think he got far). I guess we'll see soon.
@ushiwakamaru30 thinking about it, your correct, I cant remember the blogs showing further changes. I remember when info was released about AE they said this wasnt ALL the changes, e.g. I've noticed that ryu's c.mp seems to trade far less in AE and it also seems to have better range. I dont know if this was changed or whether because I use it more I find it more useful. Do you think c.mp has improved? I'm expecting to see nerfs to yun/yang and fei as they are the strongest chars.
@LikeClockwerk thnx for giving more proof that my comment is correct lol. Mago played Sagat in Vanilla...Daigo played Ryu in Vanilla. who was better in Vanilla Sagat or Ryu?
@Yggbertz I wonder who had a big crush on the twins and decided to nerf most the characters and decide to make the twins soo good. Thanks for the reply.
@iCoMeKzZ I dont think daigos skill with the character is the problem, its just that ryu in vanilla was better than yun is in AE. Its starting to look more and more like it.
I personally think Daigo was getting a bit cocky and he needed to lose. Him posting that MVC3 challenge video and then with Seth Killian saying that he was going to play his very hardest and use Yun to show his true capability. But he didn't need to prove anything- he was already two time Evo champion... People favor Daigo because he seems to be a humble and calm player that can unleash the beast. He needs to set his mind more back to just playing and enjoying the fight, not proving anything.
It kinda has to suck being Daigo, or anyone else widely considered to be the best at their game. You're expected to win, and the room goes crazy whenever you don't. That's a lot of pressure, and although it doesn't seemingly affect Daigo, it can't be a very fun environment to be in. Especially when he travels to the US, where he probably feels very alienated because of everyone cheering against him.
@19TSEliot48 ya daigos twin is the one actually appearing at godsgarden and EVO since daigo is too good to lose -.- and the real daigo has really been secretly training as a yang so daigo umehara and diego umejuarez ARE yun and yang hur hur hur
@Anfmethodjor Well that being said there's a lot more data on his Ryu than his Yun considering he played Ryu since vanilla SF4. I do think the tier whoring caught up with him on this. So many high level Yuns, but not a lot of variety in terms of overall play. I see a lot of his attacks getting stuffed and avoided/punished and with no DP>FADC for those clutch equalizers, he doesnt have a solid way to turn the tables.
@RASHED786 I just read the list of updates in the upcoming patch, and it doesn't look like Ryu received enough buffs (if you can even call them that) for Ryu to become a viable character again.
@ushiwakamaru30 Are we 100% certain that these are all the updates for ryu? Although they have buffed his U2, I dont think its still going to be the Ultra of choice, simply because you can only combo into full animation after a counterhit! Also, the buffs they keep giving his cl.hk! who on earth even uses that move? They have changed his air tatsu, but not sure what the changes actually mean as yet. Nobody is flying the flag for ryu like like Daigo did in vanilla and super.
Can some1 explain to me why Daigo dropped RYU? was he nerfed or is Yun just better. I stopped playing Street Fighter ever since SSF4 but I still enjoy watching.
@THENE1L Why the hell do you think Sagat was fireballing a lot? He's up against Yun. If you had bothered to learn the matchup, you'd realise that Sagat wants to keep Yun back because Yun deals a ton of damage when he gets close.
@GamesPlayer1 Are there confirmed buffs to Ryu in the upcoming patch? I know Yun is almost certainly getting nerfed (although given the apparent lack of logic behind certain changes...)
"Daigo is losing because.." "Daigo is losing becauseof evo" "Daigo is losing so its not Daigo" People shut up. Have you guys ever stopped thought, "Hey, Daigo is human"? Im not a fan of Dago but c'mon. Everyone loses no matter how good they are. Maybe he's just having a bad week. We all do. Give the guy some credit, he's probably twice as better as everyone here.
oh and ofcourse his ex rush punch is +1 on block. that means even if you block this attack its not only safe but he gets to pressure you in any way you like. pretty good for a move that goes fullscreen hm ?
@Natsumeii it's not really a good idea to dive kick on sagat, since sagat has so many good anti-airs, and if you also factor in how much damage they do + the fact that yun has low hp, it's not a safe option.
@DxHuman I know, what I mean is, there are 39 characteres choices, and you choose yun to practice, already knowing there will be a lot of skilled players using characteres where yun will be a bad match up but you are self confident and think you can win whatever the matchup. If you lose, the fault its not yun's but yours. And people like to say oh it's not daigo's fault because sagat is a bad matchup ... bla bla bla too sick
what happend to RF? i feel like i don't see him in tournaments anymore and his sagat was one of the best in japan. he also plays morrigan is umvc3 which is awesome.
@zepheniah ??? daigo has said before in a interview that he doesn't have much expressions because he's concentrating on the game and there are also times when he panicks during the matches. you're overthinking it lol...
@WuvableKel It could be that, or people are just beating him because they are getting better. Everyone has to go through characters being nerfed, daigo is just losing fair and square.
@SBDtoxicmist He is slow yes, but he has great range and power. His combos, if you do know how to use them can be extremely devastating compared to many characters in the game. His reach for his kicks are also especially far. Therefore, making up for his speed.
@Chaldean4life91 I was like hell yeah to your comment.....up to the last part.....he's not the best at (S)f4 either. Lets remember he uses godlike yun. Mago and Daigo trade wins all the time. But really theres no best when it comes to Japan. Any of them can lose to each other any given day
@ACTUALLYrussell Fair enough. But that's still part of my point. Daigo shouldn't be out to prove anything. We all know he's a god. If he tries to prove stuff now he's giving himself useless pressure... That make sense?
@McReins while you are right that there is really no best one in SF4 (yet!). Daigo does have the majority of wins and tourny belts to prove he is. there are people who beat him on average, but i doubt anyone out there can beat him in a FT10. Uryo was the only guy i thought could do it, after what he did in GG, but now that he switched to Sakura, i doubt it. but your right in Japan they go back and forth. so to say Daigo is the best is just from what hes earned in tournies and money matches.
@j0wwww what... pros in japan *have* to rely on only one character since when they enter a tournament they can only qualify with one character and they have to stick with that character for the whole tournament. That's only in Japan, but the best players are in Japan so...
@GamesPlayer1 not if the Sim matchup remains the same, which is probably the case. As long as people like Filipino Chump are able to easily frustrate and defeat Ryu players, and are in turn steam-rolled by characters like Yun, it ain't gonna happen. That being said, I am in favor of him going back to Ryu simply because Daigo without Ryu is like a bird with no feathers. Let that mofo fly!
@WuvableKel Yun might be one of the top chars in the game but he is not OP. Hes just hated by many and mained by a few. I agree whit the rest of your post.
@malejandrop87 11,000 matches in the arcades alone (10,000) at that time, not counting his online matches, more than anyone else, do not seem like enough practice to you?
@Demoniq Yeah, he didn't do well on MvC3, but his MvC3 level is below average anyway, well for what he showed compared to players of his pedigree. I think he's still playing catch-up on MvC3.
@McReins "To be situated in or occupy a position that is more elevated or decidedly superior to others." thats the definition of dominate (its the best one i could find that would suite our little scrap). and so in Vanilla when Sagat was notably stronger then Ryu Daigo didnt dominate Mago 27-3? Canada Cup and Revelations who won the tourny? according to you Money Matches are more important then tourny wins LOL. i guess at Evo PoongKo winning the majority of MM was the real champ...not Fuudo.
You know, its funny. When he mained Ryu, there were always lots of Ryu players, but Daigo was almost synonymous with Ryu. It was like where Daigo walked he had Ryu's shadow. Now that he switched, initially he was his same beasty self, but afterwhile, not so much. Yun shenanigans arent as effective since everybody knows them. With Ryu it didnt matter. I vote he goes back to Ryu. I think if you beat Daigo playing ryu, thats a true victory. Not FOTM Yun.
@WuvableKel Totally agree. You can see most RF's defensive moves are against Yun. He knew what Daigo will do.
Without a FADC-reversal, Daigo's defense is a fraction of what it was before
@LAORTIZ20
2 reasons: Firstly, they nerfed Ryu to the point that a lot of players felt he wasn't good enough to win tournaments any more. Secondly was the existence of Yun and Yang, two very strong characters who a lot of people were using (meaning a lot of them in tournaments) who are a very bad match up for Ryu.

coming back here just to check it ... classy
@Demoniq I agree 100%.

Commenter: "No girls for you tonight Daigo!"

Looked like Daigo was trying to save the meter for his super but was getting chipped out. It's good to see Yun exposed.
Rf was really on his game that match!
man sagat is such a beast im glad i stuck with him, i never have trouble against the twins never.

It looked like he was saying ''lol don't worry bro, Ima getting serious now''
RF was on point with that Sagat this tournament.
cracking at the end
Yun gettin' nerfed to hell while Sagat remains unchanged.
WELP.
THAT WAS INSANEEEEEEEEEE
@NewZen41 It's funny not just cause it's SUPER RARE, but he actually smiled while losing. Loll. Daigo's such a cool man. XD
''This is not daigo'' out, ''This is daigo!'' in.
@LikeClockwerk
thnx for giving more proof that my comment is correct lol. Mago played Sagat in Vanilla...Daigo played Ryu in Vanilla. who was better in Vanilla Sagat or Ryu?

RF has fantastic footsies
@FurkoTurk0 they've already announced a balance patch for the end of the year
There was so much choking at the end XD
I think everytime Daigo runs into a fireball, he thinks "I miss having projectiles."
RF press buttons like crazy. maybe i should start doing that too with Sagat
@RASHED786 I just read the list of updates in the upcoming patch, and it doesn't look like Ryu received enough buffs (if you can even call them that) for Ryu to become a viable character again.

I like when Daigo wins.
@MrHyerty how am i joking? Ryu had no bad matchups in vanilla except sagat slightly while yun has plenty.
@Raffael900me he was already using lots of shoulder pressure. Don't see how he can do more.
4:39 : "Daigo loosetrifutsururuiareeuu"
I main Sagat and I didn't know you could combo like that off the standing medium kick
"Daigo is losing because.."

@tinolangmanok2010 yeah but they only buffed his U2 so its kinda pointless unless people plan to use ryu as a character that bait jump ins and stuff
@RRReviews
hed probably get stuck at the command screen looking for the "Ultra Combo" too LOL
oh and ofcourse his ex rush punch is +1 on block. that means even if you block this attack its not only safe but he gets to pressure you in any way you like. pretty good for a move that goes fullscreen hm ?
@Miracles97
However there's a certain thing with character.. You need one that matches YOU.
@Natsumeii it's not really a good idea to dive kick on sagat, since sagat has so many good anti-airs, and if you also factor in how much damage they do + the fact that yun has low hp, it's not a safe option.
I actually like Sagat now. Nice games.
@Abirxtreme0001 Actually Zangief is considered Yun's worst as far as I know.
what happend to RF? i feel like i don't see him in tournaments anymore and his sagat was one of the best in japan. he also plays morrigan is umvc3 which is awesome.
@Indigjudgement
he plays yun now
@zepheniah
??? daigo has said before in a interview that he doesn't have much expressions because he's concentrating on the game and there are also times when he panicks during the matches. you're overthinking it lol...
@DragonsongD2K but i can't understand if you won 2 evo's with ryu (2009 and 2010) and everything is going cool , why change the character ?
@WuvableKel It could be that, or people are just beating him because they are getting better. Everyone has to go through characters being nerfed, daigo is just losing fair and square.
DINO-SAUR! DINO-SAUR!
@SBDtoxicmist He is slow yes, but he has great range and power. His combos, if you do know how to use them can be extremely devastating compared to many characters in the game. His reach for his kicks are also especially far. Therefore, making up for his speed.

2:00 Daigo Smiles :D
nice combat
Poor daigo, people tend to download him before the games! It must be hard to be Daigo xD
@ACTUALLYrussell Fair enough. But that's still part of my point. Daigo shouldn't be out to prove anything. We all know he's a god. If he tries to prove stuff now he's giving himself useless pressure... That make sense?

@j0wwww what... pros in japan *have* to rely on only one character since when they enter a tournament they can only qualify with one character and they have to stick with that character for the whole tournament. That's only in Japan, but the best players are in Japan so...
So when did Daigo get eliminated after this match or the other one he got defeated?
@GamesPlayer1 not if the Sim matchup remains the same, which is probably the case. Oh my god I dont have fireballs....so I looose...
I miss u Ryu... ="(
hes a sponsored player so yes hes payed but you'd have to ask madcatz or daigo to know how much
@WuvableKel Yun might be one of the top chars in the game but he is not OP. Hes just hated by many and mained by a few. I agree whit the rest of your post.
im pretty sure he only uses guile to counter pick fei long though, 'cause he has trouble with the ryu-fei matchup.
i think daigo's still cracked up by his loss with poongko. he's gotta get over it.
@shinoobidan
Agreed lolol...he needs to get back to Ryu...or play both characters but use Yun against Dhalsim or something...
That wasnt daigo. It was his friend playing.
As much as I respect Daigo from the bottom of my heart, I have to say that his time is pretty much over.
@tidora Diego Umejuarez?
Sagat really strong charact
@malejandrop87
11,000 matches in the arcades alone (10,000) at that time, not counting his online matches, more than anyone else, do not seem like enough practice to you?
@TEEN1DOL lmfao finally someone who sees it my way XD
im pretty sure when the AE ver2012 patch comes daigo will go back to ryu
Wait a sec... wasn't this tourney single elims? Or double?
this sagat is godlike
@Demoniq Yeah, he didn't do well on MvC3, but his MvC3 level is below average anyway, well for what he showed compared to players of his pedigree. I think he's still playing catch-up on MvC3.
@McReins
"To be situated in or occupy a position that is more elevated or decidedly superior to others."
thats the definition of dominate (its the best one i could find that would suite our little scrap).

@LAORTIZ20 eventhubs. but it is not for sure.
@HARDBODYRALF long b4 ure comment was made daigo droped yun for akuma ...
I wanna see Ryu ! :)
brony
stay classsy
He did a lot of push ups and sit ups...and drank plenty on juice.
