BAM to BIM: Software Interoperability Automated Workflow with Arup

Benedetta, Mariela and Elise join us from Arup to showcase how they've been leveraging Speckle.
This presentation explores the development of a workflow, with the integration of Speckle, in several building projects to enhance efficiency and streamline the design process. A tagging script has been developed to assign and tag information directly to the project's geometry. By integrating in the process both the tagging and the export phase, the geometry has been imported in the BIM environment with all the necessary information already assigned.
In addition to the automated post-processing methods, a user interface was developed to enable users to tag geometries and edit properties. This user interface proved to be crucial in improving user experience and efficiency. Rather than making edits directly in the BIM model, the interface allowed changes to be made at an earlier stage. This approach created a comprehensive track record throughout the workflow and ensured that the latest version of the model was available at every step of the project.
The implementation of this automated workflow resulted in an impressive 80% reduction in time spent on each export. Considering the entire lifecycle of the project and the numerous changes and design iterations expected, this time reduction is significant. The workflow has allowed us to automate all repetitive procedures and significantly reduce time spent on manual tasks, leaving us with more time to spend on designing. It has been successfully deployed and tested on the two projects, with outstanding results, providing high value in terms of automation, time savings, flexibility and scalability.
