Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

The thing is, all of Chuck and Howard’s points are valid. They do have experience and knowledge and resources and connections that would help smooth any problems over, and the show makes it pretty clear that they’re right: Mesa Verde’s expansion was too much for a single lawyer to manage. Charles hated that James could behave in such a manipulative and swindler way while working not only as a lawyer but also having people willing to cover for him.
This is just a smaller-scale version of the _real_ problem between the two,
which is that Charles _hates_ that James is, was, and will always be the ‘favorite’ (despite everything)

Jimmy is Chuck's reflection, so to speak. Is he brilliant? Yes, absolutely. But he and Jimmy share a talent of salesmanship. They're essentially the same. The only difference is Chuck uses the law to justify moral wrongs, and Jimmy uses what's morally right to justify what may be illegally wrong. This scene is a perfect example. This was a dirty move to take Mesa Verde from Kim. Legal? Yes. But was it right? NO. That's when his "condition" kicks in. He almost collapsed when the Mesa Verde reps left...because deep down he knew that what he and Howard did was FOUL. And for alllll his never ending prattling about the law and doing the right thing...his incessant lectures to Jimmy and his judgement, he and his brother are cut from the exact same cloth, and that fact literally PAINS him---hence, the "condition". That condition goes by a more common name: a conscience.

For me the line that drives in this point is in the finale, when Jimmy at the court tells the judge how he got his brother killed by getting his insurance cancelled. Bill asks Jimmy "What was all that? That thing with your brother wasn't even a crime" and Jimmy replies "Yes it was".

Jesus, Chuck is so cringe here, to the point that this is hard to watch. If he had just been straight up and forward and said, "Look we respect your choice whoever you decide to go with. However, what I will say is that while we understand that Kim Wexler has her advantages over us in some respects, we can offer you the advantage of having more years of experience on this matter", he would have got his point across in a way that wasn't so slimy. This is a good example of his complete lack of self-awareness and inability to deal with people: he thinks that he is being sly here but in actuality his dishonest way of getting a message across is extremely transparent, and he seems to be completely oblivious of how much this puts people off of him.
