Love your honesty. If it works as it should, why upgrade. In radios it’s hard not to be a hoarder!

There are radio listeners, and there are radio collectors. It can be fun to be one or both.

Good comment. i think the market for these radios are not SWLers or people getting into the hobby, it's people who already have many radios that work perfectly and just want to add this to their collection for whatever reason. if so, Tecsun is smart by competing against itself with this radio.

Thank you for this, I have a Tecsun PL-330, a crappy Bluetooth speaker and a Malahit DSP2. None of which I fully use, This is the perfect solution to my needs.

I love your honesty, it really makes me consider more than one aspect about this radio.
Now to the "is it worth it" question: since I own the Tecsun S2000, will the S2200X be a much better radio for it's price point or it's not worth to upgrade?
    many thanks,
    Moshe.

I suppose it depends on what you want for your listening . If you like the compact and portable nature from the smaller radios especially for outside, travelling stick with what you have. If you like or want a bigger sized , the added frequencies and extra functions of the s2200x or the classic look with the analogue S meter then it may be for you.
Asses what you may be using it for and if it fits in with what you want from your next receiver then it may be what you’re looking for. It’s very individual

I've been listening a to a LOT of your very informative videos and i'm pretty sure i detect a French accent in your voice. You have certain way of saying some words; a certain inflexion that give away the fact that you might dabble in the french language also. I live close to Montreal so maybe we're neighbors! Keep up the Great Work!!🟥🟥

The PL990x is my favorite radio size and I go to it more than the H501x simply because it's more convenient. I'd struggle to find a good use for the S 2200x because it's too big. Had you found it to be significantly better than a PL990x I would have considered it. Thanks for your honest review.

I'm definitely on the S-2200x bandwagon and will get one once they are available (I understand September). I have big hands and the small portables are hard to use with all of their tiny buttons.

Thank you for a in-depth, honest review of this radio. I had feared you'd be bias towards the positive aspects of the radio given it was donated to you. I suspect the market for quality radios is getting smaller every year. I still hold a glimmer of hope Icom will release a new version of the R-30 or someone will come out with an updated wideband communications receiver. I'd love to see a good portable hit the market but I suspect that is just a dream.

I have the PL-880. I just bought it and really like it. It's an excellent radio, one of the best portables I've ever owned. I'd also like to see a really good communications receiver from ICOM. I also wish someone would make the Drake R8B again or something like it, because I'm in the market for a really good tabletop radio.

Hi Greg . . I own two Tecsuns, a PL 380 and a PL 880 and I really, really like the 880 . . . still learning how to use it to get full enjoyment out of it. Channels like yours help me to do this. My only regret is that neither have the VHF Air Band. What radio would you recommend for Air Bands? Hoping the take my Ham Test soon, Thanks from the Missouri Ozarks. :)

Many people were keenly interested in what you have to say about the Tecsun S 2200x. I was definitely one of them. The S 2200x will very likely be the best radio for some people, but it isn't for me. There appears to be a big void in the shortwave radio market. The new tabletop communications receiver seems to be extinct. This begs the question, and I hope you will make a video to answer this question. For someone who's willing to spend $500 to $1,000 U.S., what would be the best option and does Tecsun or any other manufacturer have plans to introduce a really good tabletop communications receiver in the future?

Personally I think I would choose the 501x right now if I wanted a new portable. I would appreciate the great audio. It just doesn’t seem like the 2200x offers enough new stuff vs the other good portables.

Can you use an external antenna for the air band on the Tecsun S 2200x? A scanner radio will generally do a better job receiving aircraft frequencies and air traffic control, but I was just curious.

The PL880 is still a great radio. Mine sounds better than my PL990x and it seems to be more efficient on batteries. Plus I think it's a great looking radio and the buttons are easier to read.

    • @audiophileman7047

If you've seen his review on the PL990X, he says that if you own the PL880 it's not worth it to upgrade. If you like the three radios he mentions for special reasons, then they could be worth the upgrade. I recently bought the PL880 and really like it, so I won't upgrade for a portable. I would actually like a better table top receiver than the S 2200X. What exactly to buy is the question, but I have a few ideas.

I would get a shortwave radio if I thought there was anything interesting to listen to. I'm not going to get one because I know there is not. I used to take a radio camping to DX AM radio stations but now the a.m. band is 100% garbage 100% of the time. It's amazing really. Do you really ever listen to anything on the short wave bands?
