- In this episode of our Line 6 Helix "All You Need To Know" range of videos we will look at the Line 6 Variax integration and patch possibilities when using the Variax along with the mighty Helix.
It is amazing how you can do everything with the change of a patch from new amps, effects, guitar and tuning, its a bit good.
Check out the other videos in the series or any video on the channel and thanks for dropping by.

Just bought JTV-variax for my Helix. And omg it is soooooo much fun. I dont know how i shall go back to my older guitars, when im having this much fun... Great video, great humor and play. U guys roxxxxx!
I have the jtv59 and the helix lt. Marvellous combination
Paul, excellent videos!! Any chance of getting a rundown/demonstration of reamping with the Helix?
After seeing many videos of variax guitars, it really shines paired with Helix. Most convincing tones so far. 👍🏼
I've just discovered this vid - nearly a year late! Great effort guys, love the blue JTV, very unusual. Keep up the good work :)
Matt Capp Thanks Matt, please check out our other offerings. ALl the best mate.
I’d be interested to know what the effects loops contain?
Another great video.
Not forgetting the banjo and sitar sounds also. Maybe you should play against a backing track to hear how they sound in the mix.
Great demo well done
Paul. I have a JVT-89f. I love Ibanez guitars. This guitar, to me plays just like a RG series with a Edge or Floyd Rose.
Hello guys 👍love the channel 👊. Question : when changing amp and guitar models is the switching seamless ? For instance, if you want to switch between a strat on a blackface amp to a les paul model through a marshall does that change instantly, or is there a bit of a gap .
Thanks guys, keep up the good work 👍👊
I've been watching videos of this device for the past few days, debating whether to get one. Is it hype, is it as wondrous as everyone is claiming? So many different vids seemed promotional and not so much reviewing. Chapper's had a good review of it but nothing like yours.
Thank you very much for having this level of detail in what the Helix can do, it has answered most if not all my questions... I am so ordering one of these things.
+TheRealReTox dude..get one. trust me
Colby Clark It's on order. :)
How you finding it now?
I absolutely love my Variax JTV59. Such a versatile setup with my HD500. I am getting ready to upgrade to the Helix as well. So nice to be able to adjust tunings on the fly. I also play Sundays at church and they change keys quite frequently, and sometimes require tuning between songs and one turn of the knob I am in Drop-D or any tuning necessary. Some songs are hard to play if they change the key due, and this lets me play the song like I always do.
Nothing like turning someone's head with a banjo sound coming out of the PA.
Great video, killer tones. Tempted by the JTV-59, some good deals about but is it any good?
+Gibbo1050 Dude, I went out and bought one off the back of having a little play around with one. As you say, there's some KILLER deals knocking around at the minute, if you don't mind buying used then you can pick up a JTV-59 for around £350. It's got all the tone and heft of a Les Paul, but with a slightly better neck and miles better upper fret access (as it's got a rear heel carve). :)
Cheers mate. Think I'm gonna get me one!
Wowwww... Super interesting video Paul... I particularly liked the way how you described the way how to set a variax (from the helix interface). And then, it was going on 3 speeds over... Sets you crote are simply AMAZING. I like how the Les Paul and metal sets sound.
I gotta question to ask you but just wanna let you know some facts about my material.
Amp: Line 6 spider 4, 30 watts, guitar Jackson "explorer" replica (from Kelly series) and as guitar multiple effect zoom g5 (sorry, don't have enough money to buy a Helix, so...)
My question is the folowing one : do I have to turn a lot the gain knob or reduce its amount and make the level amp volume well-balanced, jus to have a huge and great metal tone?
Dunno why but, I still got this envy of always put the gain full...
Apart from that, nothin to say concernin this new video. I like ya and what you do, mate.
Lookin forwad to read ya, hail Rock!
Your belgian fan
mate thank you for the kind words. yeah man I'd look at reducing the gain and using volume to add power. To much gain will really compress your tone so it losses bite and clarity. use your ears not your eyes. Thanks again dude.
+Paul Glover thanks for your help... I don't mean I'm a "dummy" but, when I listened to some sounds (like Metallica, yours and some others), I still had this impression of havin a lot of gain from the amp, and just a few od/ds fx in front of them... And I was wrong (nobody's perfect, sorry). So, I take your advices in consideration, and I'll try to make sound my tones as best as I can. I will ask u some help if I'm really lost but, don't think so...
Thanks again mate.
Paul : Could you please make video using Helix and DT25 amp together. I know that helix dont support dt25 but u can use 4 cable method etc.
+laxtlo yes you can mate and use the amp switch option in the Helix to select channel A or B, however as of yet you can not change amp or topology. I will however put up a play through using my Helix in 4cm with the DT25 buddy no worries. Watch this space.
+Paul Glover You can use MIDI to control the DT25 from the Helix, a little bit more messing and you will be restricted to just 8 presets on the amp, but better than no control at all. Also, wouldn't the L6 link be better than 4CM?
I would like to see how dt25 act when its connected via L6 link to
Helix.
Me too
Great video! I can't believe you've been avoiding Variax guitars. They're amazing. Have you tried the stock pickups? They were spec'd by James Tyler and sound incredible. I have the JTV69 and it can nail about any other guitar tone I've ever heard.
+Darrell McMillan Mate i know, I'm am an Ibanez endorsed artist so use Ibanez guitar exclusively but as a studio asset there is a need for a varian lol. They are awesome.
+Paul Glover Variax even lol
Awesome! Looks like fun! 😀
Does Helix have any of the connectivity features that the Pod 500 had to control the DT series tube amps? Does the dream rig live on in the helix?
Thanks again for making awesome, fun and informative videos! You guys Rock!
So... do you need a special guitar to do that?
i'm sold
Whew the Archon in the Helix has alot more low end bass when switching from it to the laney running like this
Variax to Helix with normal input or variax input?
gameyignoto i go variax cable so i can change tunnings via patches or snapshots. Never noticed a change in tone?
Paul Glover ok i got it. thanks 😁
Paul Glover the variax input switches on the guitar? Without the helix i can turn on my variax only with a 1/4 jack
Alessandro Ronchi yes as soon as you plug into helix link you turn on and power the variax.
Paul Glover also if you use a cat5 cable, or the vdi to ethernet cable needed to connect to the computer with a pc? I tried but with that cable my helix doesn’t turn on
I love my JTV59!
cool video
