Great video! I'm planning to give Annihilation a shot very soon, it's been on my radar for a long time. As far as recommendations, for women writers of sci-fi, Ursula Le Guin is a great one - The Left Hand of Darkness would definitely be on my personal top list of sci-fi books. Ann Leckie's Imperial Radch Trilogy, beginning with Ancillary Justice, is also amazing, and Arkady Martine's Teixcalaan duology, beginning with A Memory Called Empire, is also a great recent read of mine.

Just added They Will Drown in Their Mother’s Tears to my TBR. I just love me a good time travel story.
I recommend All Systems Red by Martha Wells. It’s the first book in the Murderbot Diaries which I recently started. Two books in and they’re super short but so much fun to read.

The Scourge Between Stars by Ness Brown (I believe she/they is an astronaut) and I enjoyed Binti by Nnefi Okarafor. Binti may be YA but the writing was still very good.

It's a heavy book but River Solomon's An Unkindness of Ghosts was excellent, and it was their debut novel as well

Vandermeer's coming out with a fourth book called Absolution in October. As for Sci Fi written by a woman, I really liked Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

Nice Selcetion! You got me hooked on red rising, I was looking for another modern epic scifi series after finishing the expanse... Looks like I found one :)
as another commenter here already suggested, Octavia E. Butler is a wonderful author :) if the parable series wasn't scifi enough, maybe give the xenogenesis trilogy a shot :) Thats peak scifi haha. I also really enjoyed The Left Hand Of Darkness by Ursula LeGuin. Samuel R. Delany is a famous black scifi author but I haven't gotten around to his books yet :)

0:09 Octavia Butler's Kindred and Parable of the Sower are excellent reads. N.K. Jemisin Broken Earth Trilogy won 3 consecutive Hugo Awards. Onyx Pages is an Afro-future booktube channel 📚
