Man I was expecting the engine issue to be something silly but in the end it was far from that. The seller absolutely mis-represented what they were selling and you would be well advised to contact the dealer principle at the Ford Dealership (nobody less) explain to him your issue and gently leverage your RUclips following for an amicable solution. Only a foolish business person would tell you to pound sand and if they do then let the Name and Shame game begin because they would have earned it.

As a Ford Master tech myself and prior Ford technical rep I’ve seen the 180 out situation on one bank happen twice from “Ford Technicians” at two different Ford dealers, once on a 5.0 mustang once on a 2.7L. The whole problem resulted from them pulling the engine halfway apart for another repair (usually a cylinder head repair on one side). But when reassembling they did not have it at TDC on cylinder one. Yes the marks all “lined up” once they “finished”, but since the crank makes two rotations for every one rotation of the cams...hence one bank can be 180 off. The fix was to pull all timing chains apart and follow the instructions as if this was a completely disassembled engine to insure no steps were missed and timing was aligned. In your case Mike, if you are 100% certain timing has been corrected, and it still doesn’t sound or run right I would venture to guess something else was changed that isn’t correct for the engine or was set up incorrectly due to the monkeying someone has done to “make it work” for their application.
I would look at the crank position signal with an oscilloscope to make sure the pattern is good and timed to the cam signals electronically. Also if the crank trigger wheel has been taken off previously, it could be damaged, have been replaced with the incorrect one, or placed in a magnet tray which demagnetizes it and wipes the polarity of it. I’ve also seen the cam trigger ring be slip rotated a few degrees off. You would need to compare the position of each nub of that trigger to a known good cam. Sorry for the long winded post but hope this helps.

    • @shawnm696
      @shawnm696 2 года назад +11

I have a feeling the cams were changed for them to take off and screw up the timing like it was. On second thought, I’d be all over that dealer for a refund because who knows what else was done with that motor that they are lying to you about. If it’s a local SoCal Dealer I might be able to point you in the right direction to talk to if you don’t make any traction.

The crank or cam trigger wheels are are smooth around (no teeth) usually contain magnets inside that can be demagnetized when placed by another magnet.

All you have to do is degree both cams on each bank for cylinder 1 and 2 with a dial gauge, a magnetic base and a degree wheel and you have your answer. There is not really any other way to do it.

I love the model A and damn that dealershit!!! Jerks!!
Also just verbally tell me how the bmw is going and I love that old white bmw and the truck sitting above it.
Your builds are sweet and I always look forward to your videos! This was the best Wednesday morning for me in several years just because you posted a video before I was awake. Thank you so much!
Keep doing what you are doing and those who are mad at you for whatever reason can just put their own projects up on RUclips and have their own haters

Gotta say - was not expecting a flat 5 spoke wheel, defo preferred the other wheels. but .. it's such a tough looking build it looks great either way .

"Sorry, not sorry"👍 Model A content is great, it's all interesting stuff whichever car you're working on. Unless it's itemised on the bill of sale they cant claim that you were aware of it's condition

I always had more than one project on the go, while you had a break from one new ideas used to pop up in your head ...
Just keep doing what you are doing, you have some great content ..
    👍🇹🇷👍
That model A looks awesome in motion ..
If you are having timing issues just check timing chain length and age ..
    Cheers

I hope the engine issues are going to get solved and the seller will come forward with a reasonable solution.
Started following this channel with this build, Ferrari is just the cherry on top of the cake atm, but I am sure the next build is going to be worth watching as well.

I came to your channel for the Ferrari, but I have stayed (and liked every video) because of your style. Keep up the the great work Mike, I love the model A and can’t wait for a new project (any hints???)

Best part of the video. At 8:48 you can see someone protecting the dogs ears when he goes to start the truck.

I guess you found some good luck in all of your bad luck with the shoot being pushed back. Gives you some time to rest and reset and get the beast of the Model A ready to go!
It sucks that the dealership was shady and didn't disclose all of the information in order to bait you into a sale. I really hope you're able to get some compensation for their scam, especially with how much you've spent even just diagnosing the problem itself.
Don't worry about a stagnation in the Ferrari content for now. It is what originally brought me to the channel (I read an article someone wrote back in January on it and then it took me a bit to get to the first video on it in my watch later list lol), but honestly I'm just here for the build videos in general at this point. You show the good and the bad during the process of a build and I for one really appreciate that because it's the real experience of working on something.
Keep up the good work man, and have a happy Thanksgiving!

I admit I don't care much for the BMW, it's a bit too *normal*. But the Ford is absolute beast, easily one of the coolest project I've ever seen. I love it and episodes dedicated to it almost as much as the Ferrari.

In the industry I'm in, people are also reluctant to shame bad business people/practices/techniques. And IMO it really should be done more often...as long as you can prove it. To save other people from being taken advantage of. Thus why I prefer to communicate by email and text and I keep copies of everything. Hope you get it sorted.

That motor sounds already big, and lovely BUT it runs like in 4 cylinders. It really gives the impression something is working against it self.

While you're ironing out the engine issues on the 31, maybe put a couple mufflers on it. Most people will appreciate a car with a good sounding exhaust-very few appreciate an open exhaust like that.
