“Meeting his beautiful wife” is the original lyric. She changed it for this performance. And no, Alanis hasn’t portrayed a musical princess, but she was cast in the role of God in the movie “Dogma”….
Green Slime. That's where her career started. I'm my home town! Thumbs up emoji if you know what I am talking about! She is totally genuine down to earth. Beautiful voice and person.
I thought You Can't Do That On Television was hilarious when I was a kid. And earlier in her music career she had come out with another album called simply "Alanis". The studio tried to make her a prepackaged teen pop princess. Sort of a proto-Britney. Her big hit from that album was called "Too Hot To Hold". It's a fun , upbeat song. Easy to dance to. Alanis freaking hates it. I would have loved it if she was to be the guest on a late night talk show and the host would say "As a special treat, we've been given permission to have a sneak peak at your latest music video. Let's take a look." And then they play the video for"Too Hot To Hold". That would have been a hilarious prank. They could also trick her into saying "I Don't Know" and then slime her, but she might get mad if she were wearing an expensive dress.
Here are what I like from her. You Oughta Know, Uninvited, Ironic, Thank U, Hand in my Pocket, Head Over Feet, You Learn, All I Really Want, Reasons I Drink, Unsent, Perfect, Everything, Your House, Crazy (Seal Cover), So Pure and open to knowing more good ones too as I really like her.
The original song and official video were great, and you should react to it, too. The lyrics were delivered very gently, but the chorus turned incredibly raucous and powerful, and she totally belts it out with a whole band with electric guitars and drums, then goes back to gentle lyrics and acoustic guitar. Very different than this, and her vocals here are amazing, but in the video, she has SO much fun with it, like there are 4 very different versions of herself in the same car. It's a must see.
Britt, you asked who else out there can sing like Alanis and it's true, she's totally amazing with her vocal dexterity. I think if you listen to the late, great Dolores O'Riordan who led the Cranberries in their song 'Dreams' you'll find another very close vocal style, it's almost yodelling but I believe it's actually called 'Keening'. I hope you share your reaction to that great song too one day soon. 🙋♂ ❤
The "Head Over Feet" music video made me fall in love with Alanis. It's just a camera locked on her face as she sings, but there's something so vulnerable and shy and real about it that absolutely stole my heart as a teenager.
Miss. Alanis Morissette is just breath taking in her style of singing. Her voice has that Irish accent, with the brakes, keening, high pitches that changes in & out at the drop of a dime, while at the same time delivering a crisp, clean, controlled, yet wild & free voice with a powerful vocal range. I believe her style at the time was considered 'Alternative-Rock Music', but I hear Irish folklore & Country over tones in her musical writing arrangement, telling a unique, simplistic, creative, relatable abstract & unorthodox story, that makes you ponder about what she's saying and how she feels, which is full of verbal expression submerged with an array of intense emotions, and that's thru all of her songs on this cd...her voice puts in the mind of Sinead O'Connor a little. 😃👍🧡
My comment will always be, you must see her sing "uninvited" live. It is stunning. Love that you love her. Spot on with your observations of her, and the songs you have done have been much softer versions of her original release.
You forgot the secret song from the first album and.... and the song.... oh and what about....? LMAO You love Alanis and Twenty One Pilots... DAMN, if only you lived closer. STOP FOLLOWING ME, JES!! (Hey you, lol)
The album received numerous awards and accolades. Morissette and the album won five Juno Awards in 1996, including the Album of the Year, Single of the Year for "You Oughta Know", Female Vocalist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Best Rock Album.[66] At the 1996 Grammy Awards, she won Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, Best Rock Song (both for "You Oughta Know"), Best Rock Album and Album of the Year.[67] "Ironic" was nominated for two 1997 Grammy Awards-Record of the Year and Best Music Video, Short Form[68]-and won Single of the Year at the 1997 Juno Awards, where Morissette also won Songwriter of the Year and the International Achievement Award.[69]
You should hear the song in it's original version as recorded. She throws a little more power into her voice. In this video it's basically an acoustic version and she has altered some of the deliveries.
As far as I know she started out as "Alanis" and made some genre of dance club music. I guess it wasn't her and she found herself with "Jagged Little Pill" which was a big seller, at least for a Canadian artist. Also she used her full name rather than just Alanis, from Jagged Little Pill onward.
Alanis... I love and admire her so much!! she so talented and marvellous artist... I recommend you also antoher artist: Jewel... her "yodeling" and playfull voice is also EPIC!!!! hugs from Buenos Aires!!
She belts the chorus on the original recording. Here she keeps it in the same register as the verses, which fits this acoustic arrangement better. But I still think you owe it to yourself to hear the original version. (And yeah, she does sing "wife" in the original, to equally great effect, me thinks).
I was invited to see her live at Foxwoods casino in Connecticut a few years back and she was awesome. I’ve been to a couple hundred concerts over the years and wouldn’t have gone out of my way for that show, but I was pleasantly surprised by just how good it was. I also love that she played God in the movie “Dogma”.
I remember Alanis Morissette on "You Can't Do That On Television (a children's TV Show) I watched it with my children. It was like turning around & she was grown with a great singing career.
The original said wife. LOL. She is quirky and edgy and has always been. This is much different than the mainstream one that played on the radio. It doesn't matter, she has got such a beautiful voice and she uses it like a fine if strange instrument. Listen to some of her songs as they came out and then compare them to these with HS. It makes me smile. As do you. Thanks for bringing back a memory!!
You would absolutely LOVE The Cranberries' songs like "Zombie" and "Dreams" and "Linger"... Dolores O'Riordan has an amazing Irish accent and singing style.
You really should start with the studio versions of songs you're reacting to. She and other artists have a habit of changing lyrics and chords and what ppl want you to hear is the versions that we're familiar with which was usually played on the radio over and over. It's the version that have been endearing to us all. Your House is a MUST! I request it to everyone hopping on the Alanis train. It's a capella and her voice is mind blowing 🤯 It was a hidden track on her first album Jagged Little Pill. And it happens to be her best in my opinion. No music to distract from her glorious voice
Great reaction as usual Britt, Alanis Morissette is my favourite female vocalist of all time, then Angelina Jordan came into my life and now I have 2 favourite vocalists, Alanis I have attended all her live concerts when she has toured the United Kingdom and 🇬🇧 and she is phenomenal live,no Auto tune or special effects for this artist, Alanis Canadian-American singer- songwriter and actress known for her mezzo- soprano voice,Alanis has won numerous awards including 7 Grammy and 13 Juno Awards she has been nominated for 80 different awards and in total has won 38 awards so far, Alanis debut album Jagged Little Pill has sold 33 million copies to date and she at the time of Jagged Little Pill was the youngest female artist to win a top award, and held the record for best selling debut album ever for a female artist! Alanis is one of a kind and uniquely talented 🙏
Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill album holds a special place in my heart. When I was 11 my dad took me to the Wooden Nickel Music store and gave me $20. Said anything I wanted. First time picking my own music. I bought the CASSETTE! Lol. Im 36 now and still have it.
My friends and I were obsessed with Jagged Little Pill when it came out. Never heard anything like her. We listened to it over and over. Through the years I love to hear how she changes the arrangements of her music. She definitely is one of a kind talent and human being.
One of the most unique and beautiful and skillful voices ever. She was a performer of my daughter's generation and I never really heard her until years after her top popularity. But I was blown away by her vocal skill. Not to mention her songwriting. A talent like has not existed very often anywhere.
I love her voice. It’s interesting to watch her singing 😊 in the original it’s wife. I think the original is better but no matter what her voice is beautiful.
Back in the 90s, I was away for a golf weekend with a bunch of guys. One night we were playing cards with the TV on listening to music videos. Shania video started. We paused the cards and drooled watching ST perform for the first time.
Her Debut Album Jagged Little Pill IS Absolutely Amazing. Full of Great Songs & Hits. Lucky enough to see Her Live Touring on this Album. Such a Unique Voice and Delivery I hadn’t heard before or since
Before she started singing, she was on a TV show. Nickelodeon had a show way back in the day called "You Can't Do That On Television", she was on that when she was young teen. 😊
Something you need to understand is the way she sings is similar to how you react. The way you talk and break things down and truly seem interested in them with a great smile. That's a true talent too.
Love this version but like many have mentioned to understand the impact of the original arrangement had at the time also check it out! I feel that with any of these more acoustic versions of a classic song it is always worth a look at the original version as well.
I need you to understand how much I LOVEEEE this review. Jagged little pill was my first cassette (besides TLC) and you let me relive hearing it for the first time. The purity in your response made me feel like I was experiencing it all over again 😊
This is so different from the original, you could do a separate reaction with the original. She didn't voice a Disney princess but she did Play God in the movie Dogma!
Even if you prefer live acoustic versions of songs, it's worth checking out the studio versions to appreciate why these songs affected the music landscape in the 90's. You oughta know and Ironic hit different on the radio at the time. So maybe do a comparison.
When I was a kid Nickelodeon came out on TV and I remember watching all those shows for kids, I loved Mr Wizards World and You can't do that on television which was were Alanis got here start as a young teen, I remember her getting slimed alot but after the show it was years later and I hadn't heard anything about her then Shazam! She came out with the song You ought to know and she was instantly a 🌟 that album was 🔥 every song and she was all over the radio and MTV
In the 80s-90s, Canada have Alanis Morissette, it was league on his own lane. On the other side of the eastern world, Philippines. The father was a BIG FAN of Alanis, He give her daughter a name of Morissette on it. Where's you also love her so much of her voice. Morissette Amon Lamar. Nowadays, Morissette is become a household name. Both Queen's able to sang and rock the world's out of the mind😂
She was really a badass in the 90’s with jagged little pill! She totally did a 180 degree turn on this song and did it slow and with acoustic guitars! You should hear the original version it’s a fast rocking beat with a higher pitch so she get to use that voice to hit those highs! Great job and reaction!
The label she signed to actually wanted Alanis to be a Britney Spears pop singer. Her first album is just like that. Alanis decided that she had much more to offer, hence Jagged Little Pill - which sold, I dunno, 500 billion albums? Plus her appearance in a movie as God. Who does that?
So exciting to see someone so young appreciate the talent of this great singer! His voice is still the same as a thousand years ago, of course, more mature of course but his talent is still there..
Have seen her live in large and intimate venues. Her live performances are transcendent. Also, she’s a nice Canadian girl from Ottawa. So proud of and amazed by her ! ❤️🇨🇦
Britt , Great Reaction, Alanis is legendary. She is Canadian and Jagged Little Pill is one of the best selling albums of all time. You would like One Hand In My Pocket, a fun song, and You Oughta Know, the ultimate getting even song.
I've been all into your videos that last few days and I really really appreciate how you use the live version when possible and get a real feel for the artist instead of the polished produced music videos
Miss BrittReacts - wow I'm subscribing! Your appreciation of talent is reeling me in. LOVE your reaction to our Alanis! This album "Jagged Little Pill" came out in 1996 and young Alanis blew us away with it. As a singer, I hope you put the whole album on your playlist. For me, her phrasing is everything!
Her voice seems better after taking a break from the music biz to raise her children and keep her sanity, mental health intact. She's been on a bit of a comeback on her terms which I admire.
One of my favorite reactions ever! I can't express in words the crush I have had on this woman since 1995! You can't go wrong with any of her videos, but I'm gonna agree that Uninvited (live) should be your next! Here's some other amazing female Alternative singers from the 90s with unique sounds: Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Mazzy Star, Four Non Blondes, L7, the list goes on!
Alanis also has a video of her covering "My Humps" in this same style. There's another singer named "Jewel" who does a similar voice-as-instrument thing. Check out "Who Will Save Your Soul" by her.
She puts so much heart and talent into her songs, I recommend listening to the original studio versions when checking out her music. So you can experience it like we all did and how she released it.
This entire album "Jagged Little Pill" is excellent! She owned the charts for a LOOONG time. It never seemed to occur to us at the time that none of the things in the song are examples of actual Irony! Lol
I would love to hear your reaction to Jewel… she also has one of the most unique voices. Definitely check out ‘Who Will Save Your Soul’ or ‘You Were Meant For Me’ by Jewel. She had come out in the early 90s, around the same time as Alanis. 😊
Thank you! I love all kinds of music. I think my favorite Jewel is Standing Still, great driving song 🚗. I also really love Break Me. She's just awesome ❤️
I think you reacted to her before, didn't you? She sang You Oughta Know. The original song was 'his beautiful wife' so that's a lovely recent change in the lyrics. As for her command of self... she was an actress on Nickelodeon as a child, on You Can't Do That On Television. And then she had these amazing albums, full of angst and beauty. Then she literally played God in a movie (Dogma).
Oh you really need to go down the rabbit hole with her. My favorite artist when I grew up. There are so, so many songs you need to hear. Uninvited is definitely one of them. I would suggest to hear the older versions from when she first came out with them. The nostalgia is real.
Britt, there's a video of her singing acapella at home with her young daughter sitting on her lap. It was on some Covid-time podcast. It showed how effortlessly and beautifully she sings.
Imma be honest, I think only Jagged Little Pill and the song Thank You on the next album were her good songs, but Jagged Little Pill is for me one of the best albums ever. All great songs you want to replay and no fillers.
The album is now a broadway show “Jagged little pill” I saw Alanis Morisette live in 2021 and she is still as amazing as in the 90s maybe even more so. I adore her. Should react to her song God Rest our souls. One of my favorites. She sang it at Chester Bennington’s memorial concert after Chester from Linkin Park passed away tragically from suicide.
the whole album Jagged little pill was jam packed with hits and was the break thru for her.
It is one of the few albums that I can listen to AND ENJOY EVERY SONG! Love Alanis

I came here to point out her role in Dogma. It was so poetically beautiful!
Changing it to husband didn't work. Feels like playing to the woke
Green Slime. That's where her career started. I'm my home town! Thumbs up emoji if you know what I am talking about! She is totally genuine down to earth. Beautiful voice and person.
you can't do that on Television. I hated that show.
I thought You Can't Do That On Television was hilarious when I was a kid.
And earlier in her music career she had come out with another album called simply "Alanis". The studio tried to make her a prepackaged teen pop princess. Sort of a proto-Britney. I would blast the whole Jagged Little Pill album, she's amazing. I hope you listen to more of her music, thank you for another great reaction
I named my now 22 year old daughter Alanis after her .
She is definitely magical.
"You Oughta Know" (original video) will absolutely blow your mind. She goes full-on about her ex and leaves it all out there. One of her biggest hits.
Brit reacted to the acoustic version a little while ago, not the studio version
Already done. Go search sometimes
I heard that was about Joey from Full House ( Dave Coulier ) ! They dated and broke up while she was writing Jagged Little Pill.

One of the most iconic unique voices of all time!!!!!!!!! She is AMAZING!! Thanks for the video!!!!!!!!!
She is the best. From Canada and yes no one has a voice like hers
She was a teenager when she wrote the songs on Jagged Little Pill.
Incredible.
Some songs should never end. That's a quote I came up on a night when I was doing something I shouldn't have been doing, long ago.
I’ve seen Alanis twice in concert… She is absolutely amazing, a definite force to be reckoned with ❤️
This song has always been my jam, I also love Thank You.
I really like how her voice plays with the words of the song like a balloon bouncing around against a ceiling.
Alanis has a really beautiful sing called Ablaze, it's one of her more recent songs. I think you'd appreciate it, and her vocals.
She's been on a bit of a comeback on her terms which I admire.
she always sounded like that. Between her and Morissette Amon they have it all covered :)
Way back in the 80’s there was a show on Nickelodeon called You can’t do that on television, and a very young Alanis got her start on that show.
Alanis was the queen of the powerful woman movement in the 90's. Her album Jagged Little Pill will forever be one of the best albums ever.
I personally like the original version better, but this is cool too. Also the original does say Wife, it sounds so much better too
One of my favorite reactions ever!
But the original queen of shifting vocal registers was Joni Mitchel
It's so without words.... you know. ❤️
Alanis is from Canada and had is great time at the " grunge " times ! Great Canadiens singer
Lol
She has an amazing voice and her style is unique. I have loved listening to her ages.
The whole album. Jagged Little Pill. Amazing. Amazing.
that was a yodel sister....love her and the band that accompanied her in the 90s, especially her then drummer the late taylor hawkins
Yes,, look up her original just to see the difference even not to react to but to hear it
Alanis’ voice is amazing. Keep in mind these are songs she sang over 30 years ago and The Howard Stern show is on the air early in the morning.
I would love to hear your reaction to Jewel… she also has one of the most unique voices. Definitely check out ‘Who Will Save Your Soul’ or ‘You Were Meant For Me’ by Jewel. She had come out in the early 90s, around the same time as Alanis. 😊
Was going to also recommend Jewel ❤
@@janawayne you’ve got some good taste in music 😊 Jewel is definitely good for the soul. Especially 90s Jewel.
Thank you! I love all kinds of music. I think my favorite Jewel is Standing Still, great driving song 🚗. I also really love Break Me. She's just awesome ❤️
@@janawayne she is!!!! That is definitely important, to find the right music to be able to drive to. There is something special about those artists. 😊
Uninvited by Alanis Morissette, and Reasons I Drink. Alanis has saved my life just by being herself. She is a hero of the world
she is amazing! I will keep your suggestions in mind, thanks!
Her album Jagged Little Pill is on my top three albums of all time list.
