Love the how to vids. I'm doing a 99 sierra 4.8 turbo build and I have the same fuel pump gonna install after the fab work is done. With that cradle you broke, you could always plastic weld it back together with a soldering iron. But I'm sure those rivets will work fine too. 👌 thanks for putting this stuff out, big help for the diy guys like myself.👍
So the stock bucket uses the return to fill the bucket to keep fuel in it. If you cut the stock bucket you're going to be letting all of the fuel out. So when you're lower on fuel, you'll be sucking in air. Correct?
Looking at the new pump it sits a little high I'm assuming anything under a quarter tank it won't work.? The old pump sat at bottom new one sits about 3 or 4 inches higher..
LG performance yes you are correct, the pump doesn’t sit right at the bottom so it will leave me with a bit of of unusable fuel in the tank. I’m also a little concerned that now that the pickup for the fuel pump doesn’t have a “bucket” around it it will uncover the pickup and starve for fuel if the fuel sloshes around in the tank like during a hard launch. Guess I’ll plan on fueling up a little more often to keep the tank closer to full.
I need to point out, you shouldn’t have “spliced” the heavier gauge wire from the 525 pump to the smaller OEM wire. The higher amp draw of the 525 pump requires the heavier gauge wire, don’t be surprised if the OEM wire melts. The pump needs a hot wire kit feeding power/ground as well. I’m hoping you can get this oversight corrected before any damage.
Thanks Jeff, I was hoping that the smaller gauge would be OK since it is just a short section of wire at the connector to the tank but maybe I should change it out. I'm thinking I might want to pull the pump again anyways as fuel pressure at idle is too high, either this pump is overpowering the fuel pressure regulator or there is some restriction in the return line.
Good video.. building my 2000 Silverado and have a On3 78/75 im gonna slap on it.. how is the truck doing? Wiring holding up? Was there a restriction in return or was fuel pressure regulator bad?
I cut my bucket to allow a larger pump and had issues with fuel starvation with anything under 1/2 tank and acceleration. Also, fuel pump sock is designed to sit at the bottom of the tank. Wouldn't your setup leave a good 1/4 tank unused and fuel starvation under load even worse?
Am I missing something, seems like if you raised the filter that high up you'd drastically change the usable fuel level. Surely you'd lose a couple gallons of usable fuel level.
I got it from Summit Racing, it's available for $116.99 US for the pump (part # F9000285) and the install kit with the filter, hose and electrical connector (part # 400-1168) is currently $31.49 from Summit.
@@LowbuckLS great I was getting worried the wally 400 pump use rubber hose and they sent me a plastic one and I wasn't sure if the gear clamps sealed it or if they cut the cheap plastic line Ty I guess I'm just being stupid paranoid I get it all Monday But ty for the fast reply You saved me a worried nights zzzzz
People need to understand that Walbro rates their pump capacity at 0 PSI. The DW415 flows the same as this pump at 40-70 PSI and uses 2 less amps to do it, and is a chitload less noisy.
Stupid question but just curious cuz I got to do the same thingwith those wires you but connected they won't spark or cause any kind of explosion in the tank just curious I know the gas doesn't conduct electricity I just curious
I don't think it should cause a problem unless there was a short circuit or loose connection that could cause a spark but as long as the connection is done properly and well insulated it shouldn't be a problem. I've seen plenty of guys do it this way and haven't heard of any problems.
I emailed the guy from walbro and he told me that using fear clamps is not recommended and to use oetikrr clamps which cost 60 bucks So I'm not doing that I'm gonna buy a 42 $ per foot submersible hose at Napa 3/8" Do you know anyone else that can say it's good I don't know what to do I told the guy off saying they should have included those clamps
The pump pulls more power, the relay basically "relays" a larger power source to your fuel pump, you can use the regular wires to trigger the relay, and run a larger power feed from battery through large relay contacts to pump, this helps with voltage drop and wire sizes that are too small for the amperage needed for the new pump

I got the same pump but after a while it overheats been hearing it’s not a good pump if you run it direct on 12v 😤😤

Yes I think it might, thinking of replacing it with an aftermarket regulator
