  • On this episode of The Deep Cut, host John Rocha welcomes British actor and BAFTA TV nominee James Norton to the show. They sit down for an hour to discuss his latest film "Mr. Jones" from Academy Award nominee director Agnieszka Holland. The film is set on the eve of WWII, sees Hitler’s rise to power and Stalin’s Soviet propaganda machine pushing their “utopia” to the Western world. Meanwhile an ambitious young journalist, Gareth Jones (Norton) travels to Moscow gets a tip that could expose an international conspiracy and goes on a life-or-death journey to uncover the truth behind the façade that would later inspire George Orwell’s seminal book Animal Farm.
    John and James also discuss James's memorable work on TV shows like Happy Valley, Grantchester, War & Peace, Black Mirror and in films like Little Women, Mr. Turner, Rush and An Education. They also discuss if he'd even want to play James Bond if they make him an offer. This is one interview with a very accomplished actor (and possibly the next James Bond) you do not want to miss!
    Mr. Jones is Available on Digital on June 19th and on VOD on July 3rd!

    Great interview! James Norton has already shown phenomenal range; truly evil in Happy Valley, gripping in McMafia and heartbreaking in The Trail of Christine Keeler. All must see viewing. Thanks to Rocha for another great Deep Cut

    James is one of my favourite actors 😍. I'm a fairly new fan (about a year I'm slowly working my way through his shows/movies). I think he's amazing on and off camera. He always comes across so sweet and genuine. He was amazing in Happy Valley, Grantchester and McMafia. He's almost too good for Bond 😂.

      Ha! Well, that's why I asked him what I asked him about Bond. I think his unique approach would be something to see.

      @@JohnRochaSays I was on the fence about whether he has the part or not but after watching this I think he does, I'm now convinced 😂. I think he's too talented for Bond 🤔. I don't think the part is right for him. I think he'd be better to stick with smaller movies like Mr. Jones and make his name that way.

      @@SuperDS86 I agree that he's better than Bond. He has such a wide range from sweet to very edgy that it would be a pity if he was typecast as Bond and we'd be unable to see him in a variety of more stretching roles.

      @@JohnRochaSays that would be great 😍👍💯 he has some interesting movies coming out soon like Things Heard and Seen with Amanda Seyfried on Netflix and an indie movie called Nowhere Special. Do check McMafia out it's an 8 episode series it's kind of seen as his "Bond audition". I can't recommend it enough 👍💯.

    Still trying to figure out how anyone who suffered through the Soviet occupation of Poland can plant herself left of centre - Communism has *always* been left-wing. Any thoughts?

    • @QueenMegaera
      @QueenMegaera 3 года назад +2

      That's like saying no-one who survived Nazism can be right wing. The right is broader than the far right. The left is broader than the far left. "Center" is a weird and fleeting term. The "center" in Europe is to the left of most Democrats in the US if you define it by taxation and the role of the public sector.

    • @QueenMegaera
      @QueenMegaera 3 года назад +2

      Also, the current right wing-party in Poland is pretty scary. If you fight for freedom of speech, you WOULD fight Soviet then and the Polish right wing now.
