THE EVOLUTION OF HONDA CBR FIREBLADE 1992 - 2019

  • #CBRFIREBLADE Ushering in back in 1992, the Fireblade aimed to re-design what Supersport meant, taking the direction of the class and turning it onto refined handling, aggressive looks and maximising your control out on the road. Total Control, a statement that became somewhat a design goal of the Honda team.
But with over 25 years in the market, they must have succeeded. Recently releasing an all-new CBR1000RR Fireblade, Honda have succeeded in maintaining their core design philosophy - Total Control.
Here is the EVOLUTION of the beloved Honda Fireblade sportbike. And you guys can compare the change and improvement each Fireblade from the first generation until newest generation. #HondaCBR

I had a 1996 919 RRT "Tiger Eye" one which was dynojetted and dyno'd at 124 bhp rear wheel! Given its much lighter mass than later bikes which just got heavier up until a few years back, performance was phenominal. It was let down by poor brakes though and handling was affected by its 16 inch front wheel....rapid turn in but would shake its head if suspension wasn't set up well. Very comfy bike and very reliable but the later 1998 tk 2003 aprilia rsv mille outperformed it on road and was better made to everyone's astonishment. Mind you the Mille outperformed even the 916, 996 and 998 Dukes back then. Next to it, the RRT was the bike to own along with the later fuel injected model. Huge fun. The rrt rode like a giant 2 stroke with a powerband from 7.5k revs😊

The latest blade isn't all new, its a heavily revised and refined version of what's been around since 2008. Its been updated incrementally since then with the major ones being the facelift of 2012 and the introduction of the sp in 2014 and now we have the latest update currently available. That platform, as good as it is, is well out dated now and the competition is pulling away. I was a proud owner of a 2009 model and i will never forget her but honda needs to pull finger and bring out an all new model.

I owned a 95 TigerBlade some dude ran a red light on me and destroyed it and broke my ankle. I went out and bought a 98 Blade when I'd recovered.... what a piece of crap. Honda tried to turn it into a tourer or something and I wasn't upset at all when some prick stole it from outside my house. I rode the 2000 Blade at the track and it was so awesome, handled like my 400 race bike. Had an SP1 up until 2008 but that was useless, too heavy for anything other than fast sweepers and I constantly burnt my leg on the stupid exhausts. I never bought another "road" bike as I was still road racing, had two kids and then got into desert racing. Just about to buy myself a new Blade after I bought my son a CBR500A and had a go on it. ..... hooked again 😁I'm thinking 2013 / 15 before the electronics got too much. So excited.

One of the biggest problems with newer bikes is the stacking of all the gear box and inside shafts placing the clutch above the crankcase oil. Problem is if you don't or can't ride all the time the clutch springs will squeeze the oil out of the fiber clutch plates resulting in having to remove the plates and soak them overnight in motor oil to regain proper clutch operation. Strapping the clutch open at the lever to eliminate this causes another problem which is loss of spring tension and weaker clamping force on the clutch pack. Ultimately having the clutch be at the lowest point whilst parked would be the best fix as the plates would be mostle submerged in engine oil while parked on the side stand. These bikes used on the street would really benefit from this. Anybody who experiences a really grabby clutch with a hard lever pull and unusual grabbing point whilst letting out the clutch will know what i am trying to explaine here. Temember most bikes these days are used on the street and never see a trackday. Anybody can beam down the highway at 150 mph plus, but for the person that takes bride in ultimate control on the street at sub highway speeds will attest to what is an attempt at explaining rideability. Anyway keep the rubber down.
