Idk why Bungie disabled worm gods, that (evidently) isn't the problem, it's the way they changed the throwing hammer this season and its ability to ricochet and continue to do crazy stacking damage
The hammer has always done this, the reason why this is possible is because of charged melee changes, letting them throw hammers while standing next to atheon.

If you unbind auto melee, then bind both charged and uncharged melee to the same button, you can have it so that it prefers the charged over the uncharged, basically the opposite behavior of the default. I saw a few spots where it seemed like you would have prefered to throw the hammer, but were too close so the default melee kicked in, just a thought.
also it seemed as if it is intentional.....in order for him to get bugged out of the teleport, he seemed like to need to do finisher on smtg. hence the normal punch

One such example is a clanmate who is also a Grade-A douchebag that used dual snipers and anarchy in a raid where I was helping a friend teach some of the new clanmates the encounters. The little rat then said “Why didn’t you guys do more damage?” To which I responded; “Listen here you little rat, I just did 3,750,000 damage in one phase without any buffs and the rest of the team did around 1,000,000 each (and they were using slightly worse loadouts than him). Meanwhile you only got 500,000 with a really good loadout against him WITH BUFFS!” He got real fucking quiet after that.

Watch Evanf's video on the challenge that was solo Atheon, to understand how this is even possible in the first place. It took the whole season if splicer to figure out how to do solo Atheon in the first place, then by the end of July it was done for the first time by VoteforShifu. Weeks later with the launch of Season of the Lost, came a change to throwing hammer making the solo exponentially easier
I have seen solo atheon multiple times, and everyone seems to go in and out of the portal whenever the oracles pop up. does anyone know why they can't just stand inside the portal and kill all 3 oracles instead of having to go in and out before the last one?
Big fan, but I have a question, been attempting this all morning, and I have an issue where the portals don’t open when standing on the plates. I go in, get relic and tp out, I get the oracles spawn, and I can stand on the plate until the oracles wipe me and the gate still isn’t open, is there something I’m doing wrong, or is it a bug? It’s been really consistent with not opening
He quickly shoots Witherhoard at the gatekeeper when he is teleported to Venus, before he grabs the relic. It's so fast you can barely see it. If you play the video at 0.25x starting at 1:03 you will see the DoT numbers appearing (1117 on yellow as it was a direct hit and then ticks of 5718) while he is already outside. Killing the gatekeeper is what allows the portals to open.

it's because it's easier to disable wormgods than to disable whole subclass while they roll out a fix
