He's had a very distant and pessimistic view toward politics for a long time because he's never been able to accept the unfortunate fact that most politicians in the modern age are slimy self-aggrandizers of some sort or another. He's right that both candidates in character were, by all outward evidence, far far less than what we should desire in a leader. But his advice that we should abstain from voting for either of them due to their antics, rather than voting for policy, was a woefully terrible opinion.
