What is refugee resettlement and what is UNHCR’s role?

- Many refugees cannot go home because of conflict, war and persecution. Many also live in perilous situations or have specific needs that cannot be addressed in the country where they have sought protection. In such circumstances, @UNHCR, helps resettle refugees to another country. This process is called resettlement - the transfer of refugees from an asylum country to another State that has agreed to admit them and ultimately grant them permanent settlement. Resettlement States provide the refugee with legal and physical protection, including access to civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights similar to those enjoyed by nationals.
Resettlement is a life-changing experience. It is both challenging and rewarding. Refugees are often resettled to a country where the society, language and culture are completely different and new to them. Providing for their effective reception and integration is beneficial for both the resettled refugee and the receiving country. Governments and non-governmental organization partners provide services to facilitate integration, such as cultural orientation, language and vocational training, as well as programmes to promote access to education and employment.
In 2021, over 1.4 million refugees currently residing in 62 host countries will be in need of resettlement. With one per cent of humanity now displaced - the overwhelming majority hosted in developing regions facing their own challenges - we need countries to do more and help us find safe homes for those whose lives depend on it.

Hello, your excellencies, I am Muhamad Adam from Sudan, Darfur region, my parents are from a village called (korma) and because of 2003 war they had to leave the village after it got burned by a group of armed gun-people, it happened they made it to Alfashir safely in Alnifasha, camp as a displaced people, our income is farming not far away from the city,I am student at Alfashir University Arts Englund department, Semester 4, it happened to postpone my education because our source of economic is threatened by the same group of armed people, and we don't have guns to fight back whereas the government couldn't do nothing to stop them! I couldn't continue my education, I made it to Libya throughout difficult smuggling abuse and I am in Tripoli without legal papers, under any moment I would be in jail!; I went to UNHCR here, first time in December they told me to come back in 20th of February I went again, they gave me another appointment after three month which is very disappointing for someone in my situation, firstly I need a UNHCR documents that give me right to work or if I got caught under any moment they would know that am a refugee, that's why I have strong feeling that you would do something for a case like mine, finally thank you so much if you read my case, am looking forward to hearing from you.

Refugee camps generally develop in an impromptu fashion with the aim of meeting basic human needs for only a short time. Facilities that make a camp look or feel more permanent are often prohibited by host country governments. If the return of refugees is prevented (often by civil war), a humanitarian crisis can result or continue.

A refugee camp is a temporary settlement built to receive refugees and people in refugee-like situations. I would like to know if the resettlement requests to Canada from Ecuador are still active or are they paralyzed? I am a refugee. I passed the first interviews with UNHCR. They told me the country is Canada and I did not know anything else since August 2021.

31 years already finished in refugee life. I was born1993 now 2024 still refugee.there is no future for me. I think my luck and born for refugee life.in malaysia as a refugee no any right for refugees.no jobs/no foods/no medicine etc. Even a refugee can not meet with unhcr malaysia without unhcr call you.can say that malaysia is not for refugees.
