They did, it's just that the hatches would get blown off and replaced with whatever they could find. They could've probably welded something together but maybe they couldn't. *edit* I actually went back and looked, and there is a locking mechanism on the door, but I presume it must be broken.

I hated how this movie ended. "Hey, American! I see you hiding underneath that tank, pretending to be dead. I know you just massacred almost my entire Kompanie, but I'm gonna let you live because you're asking for mercy :)" The Heer suffered horrific casualties in the final battle of the movie; the Germans won the battle but they're still gonna be seeking vengeance on any wounded American GI they can find. There's no way Norman gets spotted and lives.
People really don't know how to enjoy a movie anymore. Everyone's an expert picking every detail apart. Its a hollywood movie. Go watch a documentary. Probably the most annoying people to sit and watch a movie with because they're constantly talking about "well actually".

As far as an actual lock no, but a latch system would exist on the commanders hatch of the M4 so it could closed up. Don’t seem to be any records of Allied forces losing tanks to grenades in such a way. The fear probably existed amongst crews since their was a custom mentioned at the Ardennes offensive of lowering the gun at night if the crew had to stay in the vehicle so a grenade couldn’t come down the barrel.

Wardaddy is heavily wounded when he comes down the commanders hatch and can’t even stand properly so setting the latch is probably outside of what he can even physically do. Norman would be physically able, but probably has no idea the commanders hatch has the latch since it’s not his position. Both have probably also already accepted they are mostly likely dead anyway so simply locking the tank down might buy them as long as it takes the Germans to check and then climb back down before they get hit by more launchers or doused in fuel and lit up as the entire vehicle burns down with them inside. By this point of the movie just locking the tank down doesn’t really do much for them beyond prolong the inevitable for a guy already dying of his injuries and maybe guilt Norman into staying with him until he is also killed.
If you have ever climbed in a Sherman tank . you would realize real quick there is not that much room . you had to be a very small man just to fit in one.

Altho the MG42 was famous of its legendary reputation it had flaws with its design. It might shot 1200 Bullets per minute altho its firerate also reduced the accruacy alot. It might look easy aiming and firing. But facing single Targets the MG42 was not designed for that. It was a suppresion weapon and not actually something to use to directly kill somebody.

The ending of Fury was based on a real experience Audey Murphy had in WW2 firing a .50 cal machine gun from a disabled tank in order to provide cover so approx 18 US service men could retreat to safety Audey left the tank when everyone else was cleared and within seconds of clearing the tank exploded. Audey Murphy awarded 38+ medals during service promoted to Officer while in the field ( which is very rare) the war ended Audey returned home and ended up a Hollywood actor in many westerns he died in a private plane crash in the 1970's RIP hero.
They could of chucked the grenades through the hatch under the tank, basically use some of the enemy grenades against themselves, but this was a good cinematic scene of self sacrifice 🫴🏻

As much as I like this scene I hate how my own country shows it’s one in only a few victories as something heroic and we’re so,e force to be reckoned with. Yeah, in Vietnam we won the battles but it was way too costly to keep up the campaign and even this war was by the skin of our teeth. I hate the. “America is number one” nonsense. I’ve partied hard with Germans and Vietnamese people and I have no beef with either nor do I have a problem with Afghanistan people. I think America just needs to mind our own business. This is the dumbest WW2 battle scene I ever have witnessed in a movie. 5 guys in a stationary tank beat a company of Germans with Panzerfausts and explosives. Even beats that ridiculous scene from Windtalkers where Cage runs across a hill, gets surprised and waves his hand hand with a Thompson and kills 5 Japanese soldiers without aiming.

this is probably one of THE worst plot devices in a war movie. SS troops attacking an immobile tank front on. Not using their rifles effectively on multiple occasions and not sending troops wide or crawling to immediately get to the sides and behind
I don't think they would have survived for long. The infantry would likely have enveloped the tank within a few minutes. The defenders would be buttoned up inside and would be killed in short order.

As much as I like this scene I hate how my own country shows it’s one in only a few victories as something heroic and we’re so,e force to be reckoned with. Yeah, in Vietnam we won the battles but it was way too costly to keep up the campaign and even this war was by the skin of our teeth. I hate the. “America is number one” nonsense. I’ve partied hard with Germans and Vietnamese people and I have no beef with either nor do I have a problem with Afghanistan people. I think America just needs to mind our own business. Conflicts will never stop. It’s not our business to save the world.

This is the dumbest WW2 battle scene I ever have witnessed in a movie. 5 guys in a stationary tank beat a company of Germans with Panzerfausts and explosives.
Even beats that ridiculous scene from Windtalkers where Cage runs across a hill, gets surprised and waves his hand hand with a Thompson and kills 5 Japanese soldiers without aiming.

this is probably one of THE worst plot devices in a war movie. SS troops attacking an immobile tank front on. Not using their rifles effectively on multiple occasions and not sending troops wide or crawling to immediately get to the sides and behind
I don't think they would have survived for long. The infantry would likely have enveloped the tank within a few minutes. The defenders would be buttoned up inside and would be killed in short order.

I have read military history my entire adult life and I am 66. I am better informed than most, have been inside 4 tanks and had a family member die in a Sherman in Italy. I have a better understanding than most of what combat is like.@@hydra_filmz
