    • @monkeyinapanzer
      @monkeyinapanzer Год назад +4

      As far as an actual lock no, but a latch system would exist on the commanders hatch of the M4 so it could closed up. Don’t seem to be any records of Allied forces losing tanks to grenades in such a way. The fear probably existed amongst crews since their was a custom mentioned at the Ardennes offensive of lowering the gun at night if the crew had to stay in the vehicle so a grenade couldn’t come down the barrel.

      @@monkeyinapanzer in this movie why cant they locked it from inside then ?

    • @monkeyinapanzer
      @monkeyinapanzer Год назад +4

      @@Arindambiltu real answer would be dramatic effect.
      But if you want to give the movie a little more credit. Wardaddy is heavily wounded when he comes down the commanders hatch and can’t even stand properly so setting the latch is probably outside of what he can even physically do. Norman would be physically able, but probably has no idea the commanders hatch has the latch since it’s not his position. Both have probably also already accepted they are mostly likely dead anyway so simply locking the tank down might buy them as long as it takes the Germans to check and then climb back down before they get hit by more launchers or doused in fuel and lit up as the entire vehicle burns down with them inside.
      By this point of the movie just locking the tank down doesn’t really do much for them beyond prolong the inevitable for a guy already dying of his injuries and maybe guilt Norman into staying with him until he is also killed.

That tank is supposedly there after the greatest amphibious invasion in history which took meticulous planning, strategy and incredible tactics that kept it all secret. So seems like you are full of BS too. Go and read some books or watch some documentaries and you will realise it took more than oorah, chewing gum and Coke to defeat the Germans and a crippled tank (even with the limitless ammunition this one had) would have been eliminated in minutes and that is why this end scene spoils a good movie.

      those military things that have existed since antiquity? nope, didnt happen, its not real
      siege of jerusalem? they obviously just walked into the city and killed everyone
      the 100 years war? just a bunch of english and french people hitting each other with swords
      napoleonic wars? nah, they just walked over and shot each other with muskets until napoleon died of a stomach ulcer + cancer
      american revolution? war of 1812? british just gave up obviously, no tactics needed
      expeditionary wars? didnt use strategy at all, rorkes drift was obviously won because the british could shoot guns; not at all because they set up very elaborate defensive strategies to maximize weapon fire on the attacking zulu
      ww1 developing combined arms, a tactic so influential to warfare that every nation adopted it afterwards? pure fiction
      blitzkrieg? total lie, the french just surrendered randomly
      if youre going to spout bullshit at least try to make it convincing bullshit, thanks

    The ending of Fury was based on a real experience Audey Murphy had in WW2 firing a .50 cal machine gun from a disabled tank in order to provide cover so approx 18 US service men could retreat to safety Audey left the tank when everyone else was cleared and within seconds of clearing the tank exploded. Audey Murphy awarded 38+ medals during service promoted to Officer while in the field ( which is very rare) the war ended Audey returned home and ended up a Hollywood actor in many westerns he died in a private plane crash in the 1970's RIP hero.

    As much as I like this scene I hate how my own country shows it’s one in only a few victories as something heroic and we’re so,e force to be reckoned with. Yeah, in Vietnam we won the battles but it was way too costly to keep up the campaign and even this war was by the skin of our teeth. I hate the. “America is number one” nonsense. I’ve partied hard with Germans and Vietnamese people and I have no beef with either nor do I have a problem with Afghanistan people. I think America just needs to mind our own business. Conflicts will never stop. It’s not our business to save the world.
