Shannon Cox they backed him up a few years ago when he toured here in Boise. It was a very emotional show. Apparently they are putting out a cover album.
Michael Hayes hey I live here in Boise! Just recently learn of Daniel, and his passing, and everything. Watched the documentary, and found this. It’s unfortunate I didn’t know who he was sooner and catch that show here in town. Super excited for the cover album.
Adding some fuzzy guitar with generic Social Distortion/Buffy Vampire Slayer-style introduction is not composition. The composition is Daniel Johnston's. Nothing compares to his original.
Make sure to watch the original toooo: ruclips.net/video/TV6LPx1ezYs/видео.html Daniel being gone means his work's arc's done, and it's now something that can be looked at and appreciated without embarrassing the guy.
Your picture Is still On my wall On my wall The colors are bright Bright as ever The red is strong The blue is true Some things last a long time Some things last a long time Your picture Is still On my wall On my wall I think About you Often Often I can't forget all the things we did Some things last a long time Some things last a long time It's funny But it's true And it's true But it's not funny Time comes and goes All the while I still think of you Some things last a long time Your picture Is still On my wall On my wall The colors Are bright Bright As ever Things that we did All we forget Some things last a life time Some things last a life time
+p1ngu1no - That Electric Guitar MADE this cover. If you want the original, it's there to listen to. A great cover is about recontextualization and experimentation, not simply doing a karaoke version IMHO.
Those two words sound very smart together, specially for a non native like me. Anyway, It's just my/your opinion. To me, that noisy-gungi-overdrivin' guitar kills the song..You got a point and in other cases I would agree with you, but I think some songs should stay mostly untouched. You think the noisy part is the best. good for you. But...ehm...So...when Beck sings this song just with his acoustic guitar..Is he doing a fucking Karaoke?
+p1ngu1no - I actually quite enjoy Beck's version (I think its piano rather than guitar), he manages to capture the sadness and longing that so defines Daniels music and life. I wouldn't necessarily say he adds that much to the song, but he does capture the essence really well. As you mentioned art and music are ultimately subjective, so we all come to our own conclusions about what we want from a cover. The thing I love about the Built to Spill cover is that it captures a different side of Johnson's life. The grungy guitar and loud percussion cut though the songs tranquil sadness like a knife of disarray. To me it represents the mental illness that stole so many years from Daniels life, family and music - while also being the driving factor behind his relationship to those same things.
Yeah, man. It was piano! long time I didn´t listen to it. I´m not disliking that much Built to spill electric guitar after 2 or 3 plays. It´s a fine cover.MPLS623
I miss my boy, but he's gotta grow up! Built to Spill concerts together is forever our thing. Mom loves you! Love you kid. ❤
RIP Daniel Johnston
Built to Spill is one of the best bands of all time.
Ryan Allen and still is....
Yes, that's what i've been saying but noone seems to understand.
If any band should headline the Daniel Johnston tribute in Austin Texas it should be built to spill.

@@BunnyHoover That is great to hear. I found out Daniel died just today, a little late to the show.
I just stumbled across this cd again on here. Forgot how great it was. Think I need to go pick it up again.
Why doesn't this song have millions of views and tens of thousands of likes, WTF!?!?
Rip

Hi, how are you?
I get the reference but, all references aside: I'm doing alright, thank you for asking.
Your picture
Is still
On my wall
On my wall
The colors are bright
Bright as ever
The red is strong
The blue is true
Some things last a long time
Some things last a long time
Your picture
Is still
On my wall
On my wall
I think
About you
Often
Often
I can't forget all the things we did
Some things last a long time
Some things last a long time
It's funny
But it's true
And it's true
But it's not funny
Time comes and goes
All the while
I still think of you
Some things last a long time
Your picture
Is still
On my wall
On my wall
The colors
Are bright
Bright
As ever
Things that we did
All we forget
Some things last a life time
Some things last a life time
