Great video! Bought myself the fuel disconnect tool and following the steps literally took 10 minutes to change the fuel filter. Thanks for uploading this video mate.
Just like to add that the rear push on hose with the blue fitting, all you need to do is sqeeze the two blue tabs together and the hose will come off. Also if you leave the car for say 20 minutes after driving, the system de-pressurises and when you take the fuel lines off, only a minimal amount of fuel comes out of the lines. This method shown in the video is not suitable for a MPS 3 (Mazdaspeed 3) as the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump which is in the fuel tank.
Thanks @AutoMTR my wife has a Mazda 3 2012 BL - yet to work out whether it has intank or inline filter. Thanks to you I know where to look. Cheers for the simple informative video. Hope the RUclips and the EBay are sending you heaps of moneys for your services to the internets ;)
I'm not getting smooth consistent power when I gas. I haven't replaced the fuel filter in this car yet I think I'm going to do those and the spark plugs. Great video. Can't wait. Let you know how it goes.
been told my a old service manager at mazda that the throttle body flap doesn't fully close ever, and when you diconect the battery, it closes and gains that 1 degreee of carbon build up on the flap thus throwing the oxygen paramters out of spec and reading, theres a update to fix this from memory at the dealership. Happenes when you change the battery, Im yet to dio it but will be doing a fuel filter first
Great review! Just watched another video by a Brit and he made it look much more difficult. He didn't use fuel disconnect kit and he also pried off bracket instead of sliding off easily like you did. Proof that not all RUclips videos are created equal.
This looks Australian, my hatch has same wheels and Ryco filters are big here and one of the more trusted brands. Hello fellow Aussie if you are and thanks for the video, did you notice better fuel economy at all? And what if any symptoms did you have before changing out? Thanks again. Time to do the sp23 just for love and not knowing if it's ever been done. I get bad fuel economy compared to my 2005 Corolla considering the engine only has 15 more kilowatts I realised the car is a bit bigger and so is the displacement over the engine but yeah 400 k's from 50 l is pretty horrendous anyone would think I was driving a 6 cylinder 😂
hi, just make sure the car is turned off for 20mins or so. it will depresurise itself. do not start the car if the fuel filter is removed, as it will shoot fuel out the lines.
Would you just like to show how that tool worked on the second (rear most) fitting or better still, be up-front and explain to the viewers that it does not work on the rear fitting.
Brian Morilla as far as I can tell, the Mazda 3 in the US has a non serviceable fuel filter. it is meant to last lifetime of vehicle as it is located inside the fuel tank. what issue are you having?
Zach Komins, Thanks Zach, especially since this is such an old post. My 2007 Mazda 3 2.3L takes a long time to start. (A lot of cranks) If I put my ignition to the on position, off and on 3 times so the pump cycles on and off, then the car generally starts right up. Also, if I stop cranking the first time, and go to start it up the second time, it starts right up. If the car has been sitting for less than 15 minutes, it starts right up. Some people led me to the EGR valve, so I cleaned that, cleaned the MAF sensor, Throttle Body, and seafoamed. No changes so far.
G- Force depends on what your car manual says or what the fuel filter says, whichever comes first, also if you use “top tier” fuel like arco, chevron, shell, or others then you don’t really ever have to change it
Every time you change your spark plugs or any major service 60.000kms or less , it's just a filter but in saying that you will burn more fuel with a bad fuel filter because your spark plugs will end up fouled almost full of carbon altering the direct flow of electricity making it chase the compression cycle instead of flowing straight
yungbizzy210 reseting the computer is in ur manual. Turn on car for a minute. Dont start it. Jus turn it on so ur instruments light up for 1 minute then turn it off. And switch it back on and start it. That should reset ur computer
The US based 2007 models have fuel filter built into the pump which is located inside the tank and it is accessible by removing the rear passenger seats.
replaced due to service intervals (From memory this was at 40K km) no performance issues, but i dont know what quality of fuel each station is providing...
No the filter is part of the fuel pump and is inside the fuel tank. Access to the pump is to remove the lower part of the rear seat. There is a large sealing ring to undo and its quite an awkward job without the special tool.
First clip or hose connection, intake to filter, piece of cake. But the outlet end has zero clearance, especially for the white plastic things. Wasted a bit of time. He does not show on this video so wrongly assumed easy. I'll get the metal tool and file it I guess if needed
ive done this replacement twice and never had any issue with both hoses. video was made a long time ago and was my first video. thanks for watching anways, hope you got it sorted.
@@automtr thanks, I did carefully use some tiny allen keys to carefully lift the tabs. Maybe you haven't dealt with the OEM's filters? All good , next time will be 5 min job with the ryco one! Thanks for posting the vid
I swear I feel like a dumbass now I use to take my car to the mechanic and one day I was just hey why not do it myself and it’s surprising how simple it is to fix cars outside of engine/trans rebuild that’s the hard stuff
I dont mean to talk down on your video, great work...but your 1st step should have been to disconnect the battery or something very dangerous might happen.
@kaferere i made the video many years ago...and it was literally the FIRST video i made to help people. i just re-did the fuel filter recently and yes, it has 2 blue clips to undo. i did not think this needed an explanation. As far as being a scammer, im glad this video has helped you form that decision over...what am i exactly selling or trying to scam?
Great video! Bought myself the fuel disconnect tool and following the steps literally took 10 minutes to change the fuel filter. Thanks for uploading this video mate.
glad it was of help. cheers

no probs, hope it saves you some bucks. and nope no youtube or ebay money. just trying to help others out.
cheers for watching
Thanks mate. Fuel line disconnect tool tip is aces.
I'm not getting smooth consistent power when I gas. I haven't replaced the fuel filter in this car yet I think I'm going to do those and the spark plugs. Great video. Can't wait. Let you know how it goes.
Antoinette Hicks How'd it go?
Could be fuel injector

@mydogzty pretty late but how did it go?
Great review! Just watched another video by a Brit and he made it look much more difficult. He didn't use fuel disconnect kit and he also pried off bracket instead of sliding off easily like you did. Proof that not all RUclips videos are created equal.
thanks for the feedback. this was actually my first vid too haha
Did you take any other steps before removing the filter? Did you remove the fuse for the fuel pump?
This looks Australian, my hatch has same wheels and Ryco filters are big here and one of the more trusted brands. Hello fellow Aussie if you are and thanks for the video, did you notice better fuel economy at all? And what if any symptoms did you have before changing out? Thanks again. Ridiculously easy looking...I may have to do mine soon so thank you!
Do I need to isolate a fuel valve or anything before I disconnect the filter?
Mine is in unknow place, 1.6 VVT Z6 105hp. I think they placed in the own fuel pump...
No disconnect battery ?
Not all heroes wear capes
hi,
just wondering if its necessary to depressurise the system before doing this?
no need
Where did you buy the filter I been looking for it everywhere nobody seems to carry it
supercheap auto (australia)
Just courios... I remembered I had to release pressure from the gas line in my old car (not mazda). Is mazda not requires that step?
hi, just make sure the car is turned off for 20mins or so. it will depresurise itself. do not start the car if the fuel filter is removed, as it will shoot fuel out the lines.
What year is your mazda?
Do you have a part # for fuel filter?
2006 Series II SP23 (Australia) the fuel filter model Ryco can be seen in the video. i no longer have the car.
I have two grey fittings that need the insert tool any ideas on how to remove the outlet one.
Hi, I have a 2006 Mazda 3 hatchback and was wondering where you ordered your fuel filter from.
hi, i am in australia. this fuel filter was purchased i believe from super cheap auto.
Where do I find this fuel filter ? Every part store tries to sell me on the whole fuel pump assembly
hi, im not sure which country you are , but this part was readily available in auto stores in australia.
Really good video, where did you get the tool from? I can't seem to locate it on ebay. Thanks heaps!!

hi, do you know if it is the same procedure for a mazda 6 2006 ?
have not done this on a mazda 6. will check on my mps 6 when its due and post a vid up if time permits
Would you just like to show how that tool worked on the second (rear most) fitting or better still, be up-front and explain to the viewers that it does not work on the rear fitting.
updated description .
I guess some mazda 3 s have it .. some don't .. only a filter on the fuel pump itselt
Obviously this car has drivers side on the right. In the US with left side driver, the fuel filter is on passenger side by gas tank fill cap.
Thank you, you are ingenious and saved me allot of money, thanks
Respectfully; Andy
+Viper Slide your welcome
Hi Auto Mojo, my mechanic says the fuel filter Mazda 3 2012 GS-Skyactive cannot be serviced. Is that true?
am not familiar with the 2012 model sorry cant advise.
I think Skyactive models have the filter as part of the fuel pump and its inside the tank.
even the sedan version of the mazda 3 2006 has the filter inside the fuel pump, not serviceable, lame design :C
Just out of curiosity which country do you live in? There is a lot of differing answers whether or not Mazda 3s have a serviceable fuel filter.
+Zach Komins (Z-Train) Australia
+Auto Mojo thanks, I'm going to look this weekend on mine. I don't think USA Mazdas have this filter in this location.
Do the U.S. ones? I am finding conflicting posts about it.
Brian Morilla as far as I can tell, the Mazda 3 in the US has a non serviceable fuel filter. it is meant to last lifetime of vehicle as it is located inside the fuel tank. what issue are you having?

How often should the filter be replaced and why/ what are the symptoms ?

wanted to know if you knew where the reset button would be on this type of car
yungbizzy210 reseting the computer is in ur manual. Turn on car for a minute. Dont start it. Jus turn it on so ur instruments light up for 1 minute then turn it off. And switch it back on and start it. That should reset ur computer
What year Mazda is this model? Dealership is telling me that 2007 model don't have fuel filter???
ours is a 2006 australian model. details at start of the video. dont own a 2007 model so cannot advise.
Riz Hassan . Hi i have mazda 3 2007 1.6(uk) petrol and cant find a fuel filter, but autocarparts shop have sold me one
The US based 2007 models have fuel filter built into the pump which is located inside the tank and it is accessible by removing the rear passenger seats.
How did you remove the line from shorter end? There is not enough space to slot in the disconnect tool.
Squeeze the two blue tabs together and just pull the line off.
Go to ruclips.net/video/Z9DxGP8ZFIU/видео.html
Where did you get the replacement?
Why did you replace the fuel filter did you have any kind of performance issues?
replaced due to service intervals (From memory this was at 40K km) no performance issues, but i dont know what quality of fuel each station is providing...
do you recall by chance what size disconnect tool it was, 5/16 or 3/8?
sorry cant remember...was quite some time ago and havent needed to use it since
Hello brother what engine is it?
SP23 = 2.3L MZR / Duratec
That's now where my gen 1 2005 is I can't find it. And advanced auto says there isn't one what the heck. Must be in tank all I can think of
Hi, do you know after how many miles needs to be changed on the 1.6d engine? Thanks.
It will say in your owners manual. I have a 1.6 petrol it says every 50,000 miles or 5 years
hi does the mazda 3 2010 has a fuel filter?
sorry am not familiar with the 2010 model.
Is that disconnect tool needed?
if you want to be able to remove it without destroying the hose/your fingers...yes.
doesn't the arrow on the filter point towards the front of the vehicle?
no, it is the direction of the flow, and the flow of the fuel line is routed back then the front. around. you will see when you do it.
is the 7 mazda speed 3 the same way
No the filter is part of the fuel pump and is inside the fuel tank. Access to the pump is to remove the lower part of the rear seat. There is a large sealing ring to undo and its quite an awkward job without the special tool.
Fuck the haters mate this vid was a great help thank you cobba!

No todos lo tienen.
Что это топливный фильтр?
El 2010 en adelante también lleva
My favorite part is where he doesn't give any fucks.
hi Zach. I need to know the name of the hoes that comes out from the filter to the motor . regards
I swear I feel like a dumbass now I use to take my car to the mechanic and one day I was just hey why not do it myself and it’s surprising how simple it is to fix cars outside of engine/trans rebuild that’s the hard stuff
if you have the tools, space and time + the desire to learn, working on your own car (whether maintaining or upgrading) is very self rewarding...
and then theres those other times lol
I dont mean to talk down on your video, great work...but your 1st step should have been to disconnect the battery or something very dangerous might happen.
BGS 8009
This video is deceptive in that it does not show how to disconnect the outlet ( the rear most ) connector.
how is it deceptive? it was literally disconnected in the same way with the same cheap tool. cheers
@kaferere i made the video many years ago...and it was literally the FIRST video i made to help people. i just re-did the fuel filter recently and yes, it has 2 blue clips to undo. i did not think this needed an explanation. @kaferere UPDATED Description just for you mate.
Dude, not the driver's side...
Dude...i'm in australia....so our drivers side is the equilavent of USA passenger side. cheers for watching anways.
I wish u guys would make vids with out the annoying music....
In 2022, i wish annoying commentors knew how to turn the volume off or mute videos they choose to watch on RUclips. But here we are...
Would the US version of this car have it in the same place or in the pan?
Is this same for 1.6 petrol engine mazda 3 2005?
