I used to have panic attacks on a nightly basis when I first moved country for uni. I would go to the bathroom to be alone and play this song in my head to centre myself. Really lovely to come back to and appreciate again!
Wow! So great to see over 100k views here. I used to LOVE seeing them play in S.F. in 2000-2004. Marty is a spectacular talent who I was lucky enough to organize some shows with around the bayarea. I hope the reunion rumors are true!
An e friend from California introduced me to these guys when they were still around. At the time I thought "My god, this band is making music I've waited my whole life to hear." i still feel the same way I felt the first time I heard it with each listen. Just so amazingly fantastic....I wonder if they realize how much of an impact they made on their fans. Such a damn, damn shame they called it quits.
I saw them many years ago with Hella. They had a unique perspective but I still hesitate to call them Math Rock, because they seemed like the antithesis of that genre while somehow existing in it at the same time. It was like the chaos of churning water put into sound form.
ModelAMusicTeacher I emailed Craig Colla and he said they always hesitated to define themselves by a genre, but they would often call themselves punk even though the music doesn't sound anything like it. Just because they were all angsty, mad, and nihilistic and felt that the music reflected that.
I recently emailed the bassist, Craig Colla, and he wrote back telling the story behind Dilute which is extremely depressing. He had this to say about Dilute: "It wasn't symbolic in any way. We just liked to break things."
tell me more. A google search of the bassist's name turns up a first grade teacher from Fremont. I can only hope this bay area nihilist is educating first graders now...
Sorry I couldn’t reply sooner. The bad news is that Craig emailed me personally with an extremely vivid, telling picture of people who thought differently and did it for the sake of the art itself, but I no longer have a copy. If anyone is interested in finding out a little more it might be worthwhile to send him a polite email inquiring about a remarkable band.
rumor has it... dilute has been getting together and talking about making new songs. i feel like most of you.... one of my all time favorite bands. also... listen to Okay. Okay is Marty (singer/ guitar in dilute. love to all you strangers.
they are a amazing band! i too wish they were still making music, i was so chuffed to find this as i only had the live stuff, does anyone know if there is any footage of them live? or if they have any plans to make anything new! love this track along with "apple"
one of them got debilitating crohn's disease. that will ruin playing live for sure. very unfortunate. luckily we got to see them live with hella way back. check out OKAY if you haven't yet.
i have the exact same video uploaded on mine lol. This is my favorite band in the world, and grape blueprints is my favorite album by them. i wish they didn't break up ;__;
@@glowerworm i was about to mention them. Very similar style and emotional charge, both great bands. Pretend is one of my favorites and i was so fortunate to see them live five times.
Perhaps you could buy it and support the musicians. It's probably dirt cheap anyway man. Think how hard they worked making this for ppl to just ask how they can take it free.
Omg just typed dlute instead of flute... Best mistake ever.
no fucking way you rule

I love this. Thanks for sharing.
I think we were all having panic attacks and that’s why we wrote the song.
Sometimes I feel that Dilute were the greatest band that nobody knew.
Just here to finally leave a comment after 10 years agreeing with you. Because fucking.. yeah
I would think the same but they've since been outdone by "Tapestry'd Life" by Pretend
I thought this was the band Clever Girl before i saw the name

I think its 10/8 or 5/4 for the main/opening riff.
You got the feel though...you know whats up
