This is great Darryn! I've been transcribing "4-N Matter" to get a feel for his fills and he uses this same concept consistently! I thought he was playing a herta at first. I had to watch it on youtube slowed down to see what he was doing and you've nailed it :) Great vid!
Out of all the you tubers I find your teaching style relevant and one of the best taught instruction out here! Thank you for what you do! What is your main right hand ride cymbal?
I've been listening to David since the beginning and I do recognize this pattern. I've seen them several times and went to one of his drum clinics years ago. I also made a lengthy recording of him playing at a concert. It's very interesting how he uses 2 snare drums. I think it's something he incorporated into his later playing. I'd be glad to share the vid with you (if I knew how)
Very cool stuff Darryn! I remember Justin Humphries showing me these things back in 98' at Drumtek and being so excited to go home and work on it. I then found that single stroke thing by happy accident and experimenting... such fun!
Hi Darryn, I first saw you playing on HHIS in the early 90s when I crossed the ditch for good and I've always been a fan of the 16th note groove.. the lessons on your various approaches to the fills that work within this groove I've found are very helpful for me.. so thanks for the ideas and the breakdowns I now have a better understanding of how its meant to work. I've always played by ear without learning the essentials (naughty I know) so I am finding your stuff very helpful for my pocket needs lol. Love your vids mate.. Cheers Montz
@@darrynfarrugia9904 I guess it's an age old thing now HHIS. I watched it basically only to see and listen to the house band, and the various acts with the local musos. Then there was the intro to the Grainstore!
Hey Daz, just to let you know you make a guitar player practice this on drums. So good to know these even for a situation when you have to sequence some drums! Awesome lessons!
having trouble that 32nd note is confusing,I am able to play the lick with you but I am having trouble counting and making it come out on the one into the next bar of time, when you play the groove does the 1rst bass drum note of the fill start on the one ,or is it a pick up note into the 1rst right hand note,
The bass drum note in the groove starts on beat one. I would suggest playing the fill/pattern slowly to begin with so that you can fully understand the placement of all the notes. The accompanying PDF will clarify this if that's any help to you.
You are awesome. I´m happy to found this videos

Thank you for your nice words. My ride cymbal in this clip is a 20" Zildjian Custom Dry Light Ride.
Yes! Definitely a DG lick…matter of fact I think it’s HIS favorite as well. Lol Signature DG for sure.
Just learned this and it sounds amazing fast!! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the great lesson! ❤
Awesome!! Explained to perfection!! 🤯😉♥️👍

Many thanks for you kind words, mate. I'm surprised people still remember HHIS (other than me of course).

Fantastic lesson
Good content 👌
great lesson!
Great 👍🏽
Isn’t 10:06 like mouth of war. Great stuff!
Thanks a Slot.
hey, is there a link where i can hear the original lick from David Garibaldi?
Not specifically. It's a lick that you'll hear him play in any number of his solos.
Closest I could find is in this solo section... around 5:20 ruclips.net/video/GkqXd2kQPjs/видео.html
@@fileditview that’s definitely the lick
@@darrynfarrugia9904 I studied with Dave for about 2 years and I'm struck with how your thinking and command of the math is so similar to his. Kudos.
@@fileditview He's been a huge influence on me. Future Sounds was the book that changed the way I play and I went nuts for his videos.
