About the hunting game, the HELLLPPPP deer call is probably because that’s actually what call we use to call animals to us. We specifically use the help call. Also we instinctively want to help when someone screams help so it’s a good premise for a horror game.

I’m pretty sure also some kidnappers and killers will play screams out to draw in kind people to grab em. Usually women screams or child screams too which is horrifying. But yeah if you hear someone screaming at night it’s always okay to call the cops before investigating lol.

On the third game, for a moment I thought the twist was going to be that you end up getting hunted by some creature luring you with a "human call" the same way you were luring deer with a deer call.

thats what i thought of immediately too, plus the subway car seems to be the TTC (Toronto transit commission) and I recognized it since I live there, and we've had a lot of issues over that past few years with our politicians not prioritizing transit and making the city more and more car centric while our public transit system suffer
The car was either totalled or he has a fear of driving now is how I saw it.

Huh, that effect at 10:12 with the protagonist's thoughts physically stopping them from going toward the monster girl is super cool. Everything else was pretty boilerplate, but that effect was... effective.
Ooh, when you put it like that, I like what it does. I feel like that could be a bit more effective if it was a more gradual thing that slows down the player before stopping them. The way it is here, I thought it was just an actual wall created by some paranormal shit from previous victims.

i think the effect would be amplified if there were gradual thoughts before becoming a wall of them

Basically the same thing as your run of the mill mimic, but I love the trope of hunting and using an animal call, and you suddenly start hearing a human voice that's just not quite right, and it leads to the discovery that the sound was actually some creature using the human equivalent of an animal caller, to lure YOU in as the prey
I remember there was a horror game that did something similar to that. You weren't hunting, though. You were outside with your dog, and you would call her when she ran off. Then, later, you would hear yourself calling her from a distance.
Never really like put 2 and 2 together how creepy the deer call actually is, the moment you put it in a human perspective it’s a horror story but it’s something people use every day.
Guess its the same with fish lures too
@StarPichu12 it's used to absolutely horrifying effect in the Bambi sequel that nobody saw. he hears not just another deer but specifically his dead mother's voice saying "hello? i'm here!" and it leads him out into the very field where she was killed in the original, before it's revealed to be a hunter's lure.

In my hometown at least (in Europe), the subway system goes underground, at street level, and at elevation, at various points along several of the lines. No idea where Subsurface's dev is from, but it **is** technically possible to collide a car and a subway train.

*Edit*, I just caught a glimpse of the subway map at 15:02 and that map matches the Toronto subway, there's no mistaking that very distinct U shaped yellow line
I am not sure either, but we can at least rule it down to the English speaking world given the ads.
My money is on Toronto's "Toronto Rocket" subway cars as they use a red seat livery and those overhead, fold-up handholds.
None of the other metro systems I have ridden are close matches.
Montreal uses a blue livery and a different seat configuration.
Chicago's L trains have a wildly different interior (though the older 3200 series cars do have an appropriate amount of stainless steel, I suspect we have Budd to thank for that).
New York's various rolling stock are pretty different overall.
Don't get me started on Boston's metro(s) (who transfers a perfectly good metro to a BRT).

I still love the way you guys prompt about flashing lights. It let's me know when I should be looking up again by listening for Mark's dialogue cues, rather than guessing and looking up at the wrong time.
I know that time stamps are usually given to skip, but then I might miss something story related.
Counting down to the flashing is also great, but I don't always know when to look back up. It might last for longer than I think, or be reoccurring, and I'm taking a risk by looking up to check if it's safe to do so.

It sounds like "Subsurface" is a game about regret. I think what happened is we play as the man who's in the hospital after he looked away and caused the car crash. I think the "Forever Train" is a manifestation of his subconscious regret after he was the only one to survive and is regretting what he did, hence why he's in a train that looks forever. It's not really forever, but his regret is making it look like it goes forever.
to add on to this, I think the subway setting acts as a kind of “limbo” where, like @SteveMarunde said, the protagonist faces their regret and memories, thinking that his wife might hate him for causing the crash despite it being an accident.
Adding to this, a train is a fairly contained space where you don't have any control of. You are just a passenger. Forever.
Adding subsurface to the rhetorical contemplation may also be easier to design. 🙂
