    This was really good! Scott Derrickson does an impeccable job of building up the suspense without feeling the need to telegraph everything for the audience. I feel like a much less confident movie would've had The Grabber engage in a third act monologue about why he was kidnapping/murdering boys instead of keeping the character and his sinister intentions mysterious throughout. Ethan Hawke makes for an absolutely chilling presence without needing to go overdrive into scenery chewing mode, while kid actors Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw are completely natural talents. This is the kind of old-fashioned, crowd-pleasing thriller that we sadly don't see too much of in theaters anymore.

    Movie is based on a couple real life cases and the director’s childhood seeing abuse and violence in the 70s. This movie particularly makes me sad thinking that so many real victims inspired this. In a way, is also really heartwarming to see the victims helping the survivor and get their revenge, even if it’s fictional. Also yeah, it’s confirmed the villain here was in fact a pedophile, and the cases this is inspired on comes from pedophiles.

    Billy sometimes your media literacy worries me a little but that’s okay😭😭 also chances are Finny hearing the phone is from his mom. But the Grabber heard it too since the beginning, with him constantly saying the phone doesn’t work. Grabber also mentions having been in the basement himself. Theory is that he was abused by his dad and he avoids thinking the phone is real out of fear from the kids he abused and killed.

    • @nothingtoseehere6774
      @nothingtoseehere6774 2 года назад +2

      So basically what I'm getting is everyone could hear the phone ringing, but only Finney could hear the ghosts on the other end. They had tried to help previous victims, but those kids couldn't hear them, and weren't able to escape.

    • @valentinafangirling
      @valentinafangirling 2 года назад +5

      @@nothingtoseehere6774 no i think no one hears the phone but Finny, and is up to interpretation if the grabber also has the abilities Finny has and was always able to hear the voices but refused it to not be tormented by the victims, or he doesn’t have the same abilities but could simply hear it as a punishment from the beyond for what he had done. Either ways the phone made him nervous, but never took it out bc taking the phone would have admitted something was up with it. So he was in denial, but was sensitive about Finny touching it because part of him knew. Regardless of all that, i’m pretty sure Finny could hear it purely because of the gift he had. I don’t think the other victims were able to communicate with others regardless of how much they tried.

    My theory for why the kids that were killed were there helping him was because they are not satisfied with how they were forced out of the world so there spirits are stuck there unrested and is haunting the place so helping the boy there would put them more at peace giving that they didn't die for nothing like the boy said. I don't know if it makes sense to you but just trying to help since you confused lol
    And you were saying that they weren't helping him get out, it's cuz a spirit can't do anything without a body so the embodied the phone and the bottle.

But in all honesty, the mom was "touched", meaning that she could see and sense the supernatural, pretty much talking and seeing the dead. Making her clairvoyant in the spiritual world. It did pass onto her children in a sense, the daughter was able to piece everything together through dreams while the brother spoked to the missing kids that died in the house. Honestly, the movie is a bit better than lovely bones because it has almost the same story line. I think you should do a commentary on that one.

    what I think is that the fact that his mother had clairvoyant powers she passed them down to her children giving finny the ability to speak to the dead through a conduit for example the phone, his sister having the same powers her mother mostly displayed supposedly which were dreams that come true , really cool subtle concept

    it really rings but in the book and movie it rings at night when they know the grabber isn't there. the grabber can hear it sometimes but likes to deny it.

    My dad is an alcoholic and when we were growing up my lil sis would take his beers out the fridge and pour them down the toilet and then she would grab our mom's Bible and" preach" to him lol unfortunately it didn't work 🤷🏾‍♀️😂

    Such a good movie. More of a thriller than a horror movie, but that was okay. Gwen was the best character. I want to recommend the newest Predator movie Prey #bingers

    The daughter in this is awesome lol. All of the kids were great. And yeah that scene in the kitchen felt a little too real. This movie reminded me of The Lovely Bones in a way, which I highly recommend. #bingers

    I discovered BYSC when I was looking up reaction videos for Home Free. Now I'm subscribed to all the channels. I saw this movie in theaters. It triggered my PTSD from my own childhood abuse but all in all I was able to enjoy the movie. I hope you enjoy it after you watch it again.

    finney and gwen have special abilities inherited off of their mother that took her own life. finney is a medium meaning he sees and talks to dead people/spirits. gwen has psychic abilities, sees future. im guessing their mother was both, a psychic medium.
