It's people that dictate the market not the company. DJI know that what ever they produce the reviewers are 98% fan boys who will gush their praise on why you should get one until the next latest and greatest comes along. The Mini was a drone that filled a previously empty slot for DJI in it being a beginners drone that anyone could buy without having to register or endure a steep and sometimes arduous learning curve. Its success and it being a predeceser to the Air 2 was planned well in advance and will be in part responsible for a percentage of sales of the Air 2. I would see DJI keeping the Mini for the forseeable future purely as a cheap introduction for fringe and child interest as a way into the DJI world.
Interesting vid just released by some guys who took a drone apart and sourced all the parts inside to get a price on all the electronics. $140 dollars so how much would a battery and drone shell cost to produce. I am guessing the high cost is the optics as I rebuilt a damaged £5000 DSLR and that cost me £2000 but I bought it for £1000 so still cheaper than new. All in all added together it seems they are fair priced and are a welcome addition for my work.
