On July 11th I lost my daughter to a collision. Thank you for posting this video and helping me to understand the speed and force that she was dealing with and why she could not have survived the crash. I know it sounds odd, but it's comforting to have a better understanding of what must have happened to her.

I almost had a head on at 60mph last night. Some idiot thought it was a wonderful idea to overtake a lorry just before a bend, which I'd just gone around. Safe to say I've never stood on the brakes so hard in my life. You could smell the burning rubber afterwards. I came here to see what would have been the outcome, had I reacted much slower, and it ain't pretty. I'm lucky. You might be impatient but, even if you stay behind, it will only add a few minutes to your drive. You never know who could be at the receiving end of your recklessness. Drive safe everyone!

My cousin and her husband hit head on with a BMW a few years ago.
The BMW driver walked away with some broken bones .
My cousin and her husband burned to death.
The engine had 2 broken motor mounts so the engine was like a beach ball that jumped back and cut them in half.
NEVER drive at night is my policy and I study plane accidents and car accident and your twice as likely to die due to DUI drivers and deer or bears I'm from Canada.....LOL
Any accident over 40 MPH is not likely survival as the G forces will kill you but 40 mpg is the safer point.

Modern cars have been redesigned so that the front end crushes but the cabin doesn't. The force that goes into crushing the front is force that doesn't transfer into the passengers. It also takes time to crush the front end, and the longer it takes to slow down, the less force you experience. The passenger cabin has been redesigned to withstand crushing, forming a protective cage around the passengers. Seat belts and airbags keep the passengers in place and slow them down gradually instead of nearly instantly.

When I was a wee thing, my father narrowly missed a head-on drunk driver, while with his family of 5 in the car. We were in a 60's-era blue Buick with fins, and he waited 'til the last second to kill his lights and drive off the road into the gravel. I still hear the sound of it, as it hit the car behind us head-on.
I remember him asking my mother, over and over, all the way home, "There was nothing else I could do, was there?"

These are the tests EURO NCAP should do, even better would be this same speed, off centre, on a corner as that actually happens on country roads when a shitty vauxhall understeers wide into oncoming traffic.
The silly deformable barrier 30-40mph tests cars are designed for are bullshit, you have to be a terrible driver or very unlucky to have crashes like that.

That BMW was going nearly 80MPH. You can tell by the speed gauge. It was also accelerating aggressively which is a key point. It was not driving a consistent speed- it was accelerating and the punch through was at about 90mph worth of energy. It's a big difference if you compare it to someone doing 60mph and hard braking down to around 50mph at actual impact. Anything over 10mph can be trouble but just saying- need to be more accurate in your title.

August of 2021, our 2021 Rav4 Hybrid collided with a 1996 3/4 ton pickup at at least 60 miles per hour. We spun. Our airbags were all deployed. We were badly banged up and flopped around like rag dolls. He had no air bags. He was bloodied up and banged up. The pictures of our Rav4 horrify me. Miraculous physics and probably a lot of luck that we all survived. No we are not going after the family for money. Nations brag about how advanced they are. Still putting out vehicles with safety issues. People still drive drunk, fall asleep, talk on the cell phones, stare at each other, experience road rage and all that stuff that makes life suck for millions that die every year in accidents. Slow the bleep down! Be 100+% ALERT and ready when you get behind that wheel! No distractions! Watch your speed and the other vehicles and people around you. Take care folks.

Impact sounds like a dual blast from an 8-gauge shotgun...
Would this FIfth Gear consider facing off the new BMW F10 against the latest Volvo S80 under similar conditions?

I'm a new driver, watching car crash videos online in an attempt to humble myself. I want to be less cocky in traffic, and so far my method works wonders.
Be careful out there my friends.

I Hope it works for you Mister jack Lambert,,..............
I killed a young man in 1996 who, decided to come into my lane,
      At the last minute.
I, was in an R model Mack, he a Volvo station wagon.
It threw his car, 65 feet backwards from the point of impact.
The drivers side head of the engine, laid on the road.
All his hopes, dreams and aspirations............
Died that day in a seconds worth of time.
43 years for me now, Driving a truck.........
But that day is still fresh as the day it happened
All the hope in the world to you !!!!!!!!

Its an odd outcome, the BMW looked liked it shredded through the Volvo at impact but when it flipped to a stop it looked like everything in front of the A pillar had vaporized. How could this happen that way? Did all those parts break away and eject themselves?

Today I was driving my dads Nissan Altima with my friend around a curve in his 25mph neighborhood going 60+ MPH... I lost control on the turn and overcorrected, resulting in a fishtail and the rear of the car wrapped around a light pole. I got charged with reckless driving and criminal speeding. my day sucked

I wonder about the engine. It's proberly one massive chunk of metal and all, does'nt that actually make the collision worse ? A certain car is designed to absorb energy, if you look at the Tesla for example, that is scoring near perfect on all fronts, because it does'nt have an front engine thus having more space for actual crumple zone.

wow, i saw something like that long time ago when I was in a bus to school or something, really bad accident, but the victims both survived so..

      @marciematthews8744 2 года назад

I edited German scientists attempts at English for many years. It was wonderful work helping the scientists publish papers. The scientists who thought their English was quite adequate or good - usually had the more inferior language skills.
It is a good sign that you are asking if it is bad ; ) . OK, looking at your writing I can help by saying the full expressions would be , "A long time ago. GOING to school or TRAVELING or ON ITS WAY TO school. A really bad accident. LUCKILY or SOMEHOW or AMAZINGLY the victims both survived.

I remember trucks coming at me. I was so close to death. That was 3 years ago. I was drinking that night. I still remember the horror. I stopped drinking what so ever. But she didn't and now she's dead

can a modern IIHS top safety pick car/suv survive this??

    • @wassssaaap3334
      @wassssaaap3334 6 лет назад +1

Message the iihs on facebook and they will tell you most of the time 2 vehicle's with simular weights going around 60 mph in a frontal impact, it's not likely due to the kinetic energy, and yes that implies modern 2017-2018 top safety pick + awards, however you may survive in new large heavy pickup trucks or full size suv's with good crash worthiness going against smaller lighter vehicle's at simular speeds.

Was passenger in a car when we barely T-boned a guy (almost head on) at 45mph. Surprisingly my brother and i left the ER just a few hours later. The person who was at fault (I don't think they were being dumb when they pulled out in front of us, they presumably had a stroke) was in the hospital fot a few days but everyone was alive. That was terrifying to be in and this was terrifying to watch.
Why am I watching this? Well... Really it's to relax and realize accidents are bound to happen to people, though now it's just a simple and brutally honest reminder.
