I feel quite emotional after watching this epic video. 3 years ago at age 48 I finally hung up my boots after 35 years of pure devotion to 2-strokes. I miss my bike so much (250RM)... the smells, the sounds & the adventures. Thankyou Neville Bradshaw and Max for putting it all together, and for making my life more enjoyable!
I’ve still got my 94 cr250, just rebuilt. My sons and I are rebuilding a 94 cr125, just rebuilt a 2001 cr250 which will be raced against the 4 strokes. We just bought a low hour 2001 cr500 which is pulled down and getting an overhaul which wasn’t really necessary but why not? All these bikes are ridden often. We’ve bought and sold a lot of them but these ones are staying in the family.
Cheers from Australia!
Steve Snider I’ve had the cr250 94 since 97. It’s been ridden a lot but still in awesome condition. The cr500 was recently bought and it was only ridden for about 25 hrs but it was $13500. They are very difficult to find nowadays so grab one if you find one because they are not available as they once were.
Do you run stock suspension on the 94 cr250 I just rebuilt my 94 cr250 and the suspension is really soft
Anthony Mack I had the rear shock rebuilt by a reputable guy and the front springs we replaced with a set of race tech suited to my weight. It feels nice to me but I know what you mean about soft, that’s what it felt like before.
Steve Snider the prices have gone through the roof, even thought some people here think you can get one for less. They are selling for $18000 in good condition. We have been looking for a while and looked at few that were really abused and they were asking around the 10000 mark.
Steve Snider I know, it’s crazy but my eldest son and I thought it’s now or never and we were hesitant but now we’re glad because the current price for a good cr500 would be around 16 to 18000. CRAZY!
Damn it! Now this 50 year old is going to break out his '95 CR500R again. Pray for me. lol
haha awesome, enjoy the ride
Heheh, even if I did pray for you I don't think god could save you with that bike.
Ya....it’s red for a reason!
At 52 I wish I still had my early 90's whatever year they were white/red 490 yz it was a handful even with huge forearms from laying brick/block
Rode a particularly evil cr480 praying didn't help!! Maybe an exorcism??
I don't care what bike you are riding, if you are having fun, you are going to do well.
110% right
2t woops 4stroke is like having a wet dream lol
By the looks of it, fighting over which is better, is more fun than riding.
Amen
@@markcahoon2534 I get it it. People are passionate over dirt bikes. Bickering over our bikes is all in fun (I hope) .As long we are respectful and stick together from the evil doers that try to ruin our sport.
The CR 500 is a legendary badass it’s pretty wicked
I grew up in that era, my first open class bike was a 1983 Honda cr 480r... left handed Kickstart beast. I every now and then dream of getting one of the cr500 models just to restore it as a collectable.
I could feel a tear coming at the end! EMOTIONAL AND EPIC! Can't wait for the next round!
I felt like that when we were filming it. haha, thanks for watching
I'm loved this Video.. I was yelling and Screaming for Bad Bradshaw !!!! Love the Ring Ding's !!!! Can't wait to see the next Round !! 🏁✌️272 !!!!!
Same. Wish I was well enough to ride... anything...hate being old.
Man I should not have watched this before bedtime! I raced a CR500 and to hear those sounds again....... damn brings back memories. And Bradshaw making the 500 look good!!
thanks for watching buddy
How many times did the commentator have to say Bradshaw on the big red 🤣🤣
Haha, yep he was pretty excited about big red :)
Who was riding the big red?...... 🤗
Not sure don’t think he said 🤣🤣
I wonder what they would have called it, if it had been an earlier CR that actually was red, all red?
I bet big red can blow money out her tail pipe when shes working the pole on weeknights.
Gives me chills man. Reminds me of being a kid in the early 80's watching my favorite rider of all time - David Bailey - crush everyone on earth aboard the legendary CR500. Congrats Neville!
So cool! thanks for watching!
Brock Grover on his production YZ490 beat David Bailey on his works RC500 routinely in 1985 and easily won the National 500 Class Championship !
Remember Jean Michel Bayle? 🤩
So many great riders back in the day! Great names too. Saw em all at High Point every year.
As a 16-19yo I travelled around UK watching #5 Dave Thorpe on his CR500. Some 25 years later I actually got the chance to ride with his old adversary, Georges Jobé, at his school out in Dubai. Trajically he was paralyzed in an accident at his mx school. Sad times, and even sadder times were to follow 5 years on. RIP Georges ... I'll never forget that double at Hawkestone -- NEVER!
Good to watch the old CR500 racing and winning brings back heaps of memories great bike an rider
New drinking game, every time the announcer says “big red” take a shot
Lethal!
**ALCOHOL POISONING INTENSIFIES**
Ya you would be wrecked by the end of the video lol
36 shots in that small amount of time is simply too much. 😁
Stefan Everts raced a CR 500 in a late model alloy frame at Namur in 2000 and cleaned up both races against the current world open class riders back then, Joel Smets and the King Brothers to name a few, he was actually a wildcard entry on the day just for fun, again proving what a CR 500 is capable of in the right hands.
Just imagine the improvements that could have been made over the past 20 years. The CR500 would be nearly un-ridable. Strap down like a bull riding cowboy. 2020 CR500 would be epiç!
Paul MacDonald Well Everts is probably the second greatest motocross rider of all time
That smile on his face after the win! Still enjoying racing after that career, love It! Your commentary during the race made it awesome!!
I'm 60, and was a certified Honda mech in the 80's. Raced a RED 1980 CR250 back then and I still ride my 99 YZ250 a couple times a year. I know what I want to do when I'm on it but my old bod and brain say, "ru nuts.. you're old man". Watching this vid brought it all back. Shouting, "now" at the berm apex and feeling the rush when the switch goes green "vvvverrrr".. yes!!! You made my day, I'm 25 again and banging the berms riding your helmet cam. Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed it. thanks for your awesome comment . Cheers Max
One of the best dirt bike video i’ve ever seen! Great job and congratulation to your staff. Nev Bradshaw has done an amazing performance, Never seen something like that 👊✊🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡️⚡️
Thanks buddy, it means a lot. not too many staff to congratulate though, just me, nev and one other camera guy. Thanks for watching.
2stroke forever!
Hell yeah! 2 Strokes for life. Thanks for watching :D

When I was a kid I remembered when the exact opposite took place, all 250's and above, all field 2-strokes and the thick dense foggy smell, most intense at the start, that followed when 20 two-strokers took off at wide open overly rich carbs. Then there was that one thumping noise of that one 4-stroker, different smell, different sound... Then and there; The 4-stroke guy was the underdog on the exotic machine! Must have been 30+ yr ago...
Probably not overly rich, but many were running castor-based oils that smoked like crazy until the engines were hot, and smelled great in the process👍🏻
I remember the same thing, going to Elsworth and watching the Haynes 4 stroke series, Ken Hanson being an absolute nutter! He was the fastest, jumped the farthest, but always crashed and burned. Awesome memories.
Omg that was so exciting my hart rate was through the moon I felt like I was riding that beast. 37yrs old And Kicking ass on a 22-year-old bike is awesome. My hats off to you sir.long live the 2 strokes 👍👍👍👍👍
And... that is why motocross is awesome!
well said Mark, couldn't agree more
What an epic ride Mr. Bradshaw!!!
Great job !Awsome!😍
I hope I can still race when i'm 40/50 years old. It's made me very happy(outside of broken bones and dislocations etc). Even when i'm a really old dude I plan on some kind of racing or riding, maybe some enduro or even trail riding. I will also always have a 125 or some 2-stroke, even against my 450 it's the bike I have most fun on. Cool vid btw and love seeing the old 500cc bikes compete.
Thanks for watching and the comment
Thunder Chicken if you think enduro is easier than Moto X your mistaken, at any rate stay active
Age makes us ride smarter at 58
The old 90's two strokes were amazing! Top of the game and miss watching them rippin! I'll never get rid of my beloved 1993 CR250R.
I love it , had me gripping my phone. I love the thrill of riding 2 stroke. I seem to get in more of a riding zone on 2 strokes then four strokes. I ride more aggressive on 2 strokes also .
I'm 43 and have an 87 CR 250 and ride all the time. We don't have any racing/riding areas in my area that are anything like that. We just have places to ride. I live in Maryland
Thanks for watching Tony
Awesome, 272 becoming a legend.
You can say that again...this one is certainly a story to tell the kids!
jamie askew maybe in his own mind...lol
That last lap gave me butterflies, then the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as he crossed the finish line. Well done.
That was a bloody exciting race! Cool camera angles to see the riders coming up from behind, the big 500 pulls hard
Thanks Hayden
A 93 WR500 Yamaha when slightly messaged like the one Damon Bradshaw worked over the works bikes on during the nationals in 92 would be my choice to campaign against thses modern 4 bangers. I've got one and it simply amazes me every time I pin it down a washboarded 150 yard straight. I added an inch to the swing arm took a degree and a quarter out of the neck and it turns better now than my three year old YZ250 which out all bad being it's almost a thirty year old two-stroke.
Fantastic episode, really captures the emotions of racing a slight underdog of a bike.
Glad you enjoyed it! thanks for watching
Nothing beats the sound of a powerful revving 2 stroke engine, the CR500 is a monster of a bike that was not meant for everyone, it is scary powerful and has a mind of its own, either get in sync with it or get trow out of it, long live racing 2 Strokes.
When you’re on your thumper but you know there is a fire breathing screaming dragon thats chasing you...and its gonna catch you.
I grew up on 2 strokes and I had a 1985 CR500 that was an absolute monster, those 2 stroke motocross bikes were no holds bared in your face unpredictable fun. Long live the 2 stroke
I remember years ago when i had a YZ490... i have ridden a lot of fast cars and bikes before and after it, but NOTHING quite put fear in me like it did lol.
It gave you that heart pounding feeling you get when you ALMOST get into a real bad accident but make it threw just. Except that usually happens fast and then its over... that damn YZ490 felt like that EVERY second you opened it up! It felt like you were on a rocket that was trying to buck you off every time you shifted gears as you were hard on the throttle.
(My heart rate went up just typing this as i reminisced about it)
You may have a heart condition mate 😅
@@jakeb5544 yeah its called " YZ490 syndrome "
My GSXR1000 is fast smooth power... that damn YZ490 was either popping and crackling at low RPMs or a screaming demon that wanted to kill me all while putting a smile on my face at the same time. 🤣
Sensory overload 😱😁😱😁😱😁😱😁
That's surprising, I thought that 500 2 banger would leave those 450s in the dust. That bike was a killer!
The track was to soft. That big 500 couldn't keep the tire from spinning. If it was solid ground I bet any money he woulda took 1st in all the races.
See the smile wen he started it up wothout his helmet on thats 2 stroke feeling man i miss it i migjt use my brother in laws 85 on weekend and keep crf250r in workshop in parts haha
haha thats what we thought. the smile says it all
I think I actually stopped breathing, watching the last race!! Absolutely amazing.

Yessssssss, bring back the 500 class!
Yes sir, that would be awesome, thanks for watching
They definitely should bring 500 2 stroke back.... 4 stroke so overrated and so expensive to repair
love it, really well done and super cool. old 500s will never die.
Sprocket change was the winner, softened the power delivery on the wet track.
It was easy to see the sheer raw power as he was neck and neck with the newer bikes! That ole CR-500 is an all time monster!! Nice riding!! Thanks for sharing!!
That was sooo great, I love it!!! Bradshaw knows his s***!
Thanks James, really appreciate your comment
From all of us from the great 2 stroke 80s generation.. That was so much fun to watch ..WELL DONE!!!
Damn that was sick. 32/1 forever!
Haha Thanks buddy. 2 strokes for life :)
I had a 1998 Cr500A with a Pro Circuit pipe, and a shortened factory silencer. That bike was outrageous.
I love how the 2 stroke just squirts out of the corner. (Always my favorite) I went to the local cycle shop to look at bikes and they won't even list HP anymore.
Great to see the 22 year old 2smoker in action...the old engineers are just sensational to have a machine still to this day top the pack!
Plus 1998 was a good year!

A aftermarket front fender would've cut down 2 seconds per lap, lol. Good job, mate!
haha, thanks for watching Thomas
Always cut ‘yer fenders
I take my front fender completely off on my cr500r 😂
Good thing with a 500, is you allways have some extra power in reserve..
A cut down front fender would’ve shaved 6 or 9 seconds
2 stroke power!!! And a very good driver. Regards from germany.
That cr looks awesome!
Hey Cyrus, its definitely is! Thanks for watching buddy
Can't stop smiling! Cheers from Canada!
Damn pulling on the 450s hard in the straight aways
Well it makes a decent amount more power so it makes sense
This is the Absolute #1 video on youtube. That truly showcases the abilities if a CR500 two stroke.
" He can smell that 4-strokes" LOL
I once had a guy follow me for miles through town, I was getting a bit worried, thought maybe there was going to be road rage incident so I started going faster and faster through the traffic and he kept chasing me faster and faster. Eventually I got stuck at a red light and he caught up with me ..... and told me he'd been following because he loved the smell of my 2 stroke RGV 250 !!!
This is awesome! I grew up watching guys like Jeff Stanton and JMB and Jeff Ward tearing up the outdoor tracks on the 500's. I just tossed out all my old back issues of Dirt Bike and MXA from 1988-1998. I loved reading about the setup of the factory 500's, they ran taller gearing and heavier flywheels to spread out the power and smooth the hit when it comes on the pipe. Thumpers are cool but I love two strokes. Imagine where they would be if the big 4 hadn't stopped the pushing the development of two stroke tech when the 4 strokes started gaining popularity.
Good ride big red is on fire👍👍👍
She sure was, Thanks for watching David
Good to see the 2 stroke classics showing modern tech 4,s a good view of their rear end

I wish that I could see someone race a Miaco 700.
Maico?
@@Thedoug369 pronounced makeo they made 700cc 2 stroke single cylinder dirtbikes like 12 years ago. Google "maico 700 dirtbike"
@@jimigreco7230 I know, I owned a Maico 400 back in the 70s. You just spelled it wrong -Miaco- the first time. Making sure it was the same thing. Lol
Always will have a special place in my heart for my 94 cr500, too big for me i couldnt use it to its potential, but the smile it put on my face when i cracked that throttle open is a feeling i always miss, may have to get another just for the joy.
Just image if Honda would produce a modern 500cc twostroke with fuel injection and all the other modern parts, that machine would be hard to beat for the 4 strokes. I have always said that 2 strokes are better for motocross becuase its on and of the whole time with the throttle witch is ideal for 2 strokes and you can build 2 strokes much lighter then 4 strokes and that is a big plus for dirt bikes..... Also the 2 strokes are simple and cheap to run to 👍🏻 ... So please bring back the 2 stroke motocross!!!
Blame the Whale Watching Tree hugging numpties... apparently two stroke oil is bad for the environment... tell that to the India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia.... two strokes everywhere...
I feel the same way with snowmobiles. My 18yr old sled weighs 480lbs with 120hp. The 4strokes weigh hundreds more and have similar power. What a joke!
@Gabagool69 forget changing a sport for ideological BS, look at how schools are being run and what our kids are taught or not taught to be more accurate. Government has one job and they do it well...feed off the people they are supposed to represent and protect. Amazing that folks just go with it because they don't wanna rock the boat or be different from the rest of the sheople for fear of having to actually use their grey matter or defend their ideas. Too soft to have a conversation that doesn't agree with what they say or even get constructive criticism. Government's have done a great job dumbing us down and making people complacent to their fuckery.
Fuel injected 2T are easily within the emissions laws! Just ask Evenrude & the Rotax sleds,
You can keep the fuel injection junk, carb baby
So nice to hear that sound again- the 2 stroke motocross bike. Once so common- now I will have to show my son a youtube video for him to hear one.
Bring the two strokes back
I'm 15 and I own 2 two stroke scooters, (one is a liquid cooled minarelli, it's called a kymco super 9)... I dont understand why 2 strokes lost so much momentum, they are just so much fun
May God bless you my brother !!!!
You go out there and throw that shit down my brother !! I love you for this !!!!!
I’m 51 now, and my bones are broken and aching from racing MX. The sounds of a MX race are enough to get my heart racing ! I miss it so much !!!
Thanks you for your comment and thanks for watching
I see all the 2 stroke haters gave this a thumbs down lol.long live the 2 stroke smoker's.
Absolute fantastic video Great footage. He did a killer job riding the hell out of that motorcycle. If he had that motor in a newer chassis there’s nothing that would stop him. He is a great rider that can handle the power not many riders can.
I put my bike away years ago when I was riding 125 cc class but I blue my bike up in practice and jumped on an ATK 605 1996 and I was at Redbud fall serious classic first to ride in a four stroke in a 250 cc class the only 4 stroke on the track. I was on a pro track mind you. Know I wanna get back on my 125 I would love to ride lol. I'm a blue collar worker.
Fantastic job great video l enjoyed every moment and as a ex 500cc two stroke rider 52 years of age. Makes me want to throw the leg over and hit the hills again thankyou.
To much hype on these 4strokes, just goes to show what can be done on a 2stroke. There's a generation of riders that wouldn't know what it feels like to ride 2strokes.
agreed. thanks for watching
Cant ride a 500 like a 125 unless you want to get gassed quick. Let the bike do the work.
Nor would they be able to handle a 2t.
Now that you mentioned that, I couldn't be more grateful for the fun I used to have on my friends' Honda and Yamaha 2-stroke bikes about 15 years ago.
Most people won't understand what it takes to race a 500. Being spot on is a must or you over shoot absolutely everything. I've raced a few big bore two strokes in my day, it takes strength, knowledge and huge brass balls. Utterly fantastic Neville good on ya mate !
The manufacturers didn't make these very cool high tech high revving 4strokes becuase they were better or cheaper or more user friendly than the 2 pingers!
They were forced to adapt and conform to government environmental emmisions rules!
Which is BS all by its self.
Us that love riding cool bikes need to pay more attention to how California and its attack dog the EPA is taking our sport away from us!
God I sold my CR 500 2 years ago! I didn't think I needed it any more. It's the only regret in my whole life! Lol
i just upgraded to a cr125r honda and i love it, my uncle use to have one and when he rode mine he tried to buy off of me cuz he said he felt like a kid again, he's 53 by the way
There's a level of fun on a 2 stroke that is just not obtainable on anything else. I keep my 88 CR250 around for that reason.
This is flat out false, these are offroad/race bikes they don't have any emissions to comply to
@@ajsmotolife5641 hmm sure about that?
Why did honda, suzuki, kawasaki all stop building 2 stroke quads in the 90s? Leaving only yamaha building banshees for years after.
I guess I didn't clarify each specific bike. True closed course racing machines are exempt from compliance on sound and emmisions. But the versions sold to the public were under scrutiny to be fazed out!
Why does California have its green sticker program. Do you think that was just thought up and implemented all in a day?
It really effects dual sport bikes! You used to be able to plate a dirtbike with horn, lights and ride them legally on road. Not anymore except in certain states.
So ok the EPA isn't hurting motocross directly just yet. I was talking about offroad motorcycling in general! So if you still disagree tell me why they went from 2 strokes to 4 strokes? Probably several reasons I suppose. But why do you think?
@@davelambardo6464 True dual sports had already been 4 strokes for a while when the 2 stroke race bikes started getting phased out. The big 4 dumped or scaled back 2 stroke offerings b/c they and the dealer service dept could make more money long term with 4 strokes. If emissions was really the issue why can you still buy new racing/offroad 2 strokes from Yamaha,KTM, GasGas, Beta, Husky, etc
Nice work Mr.Bradshaw! Long live 2 strokes!

I placed 2nd overall and that earned me the Silver Medal !! One of my proudest moments in MX :-) . Watching Neville ride his CR 500 ( better rider than me ), brought back alot of fond memories !! There is NOTHING like a Big Bore 2 stroke !!!
A four stroke is basically a pump for 50% of the time !
battery power will be here soon enough.............
My buddy Sammy has one of the baddest CR500's I've ever been near. He has it set up for the Dunes at Moses Lake WA, USA. Its crazy, when he fires it up, everyone looks over at us with a look that says: what is making that noise. The brave walk near it but not too close because it sounds like its going to explode on every stroke. Just a wicked powerband. Just don't make any mistakes on the wick, the 500 doesn't forgive anyone for any reason. Great vlog!
that track looks like a mudfest.
A normal race day in the U.K
It looks like a back yard track in the US😂😂
The old cr is a frickin handful of handfuls to ride. Kudos dude
thanks for watching
4 strokes suck. They have ruined the sport. The races from the 80's 90's when 2 strokes reigned were much more exciting and fun to watch.
How have they ruined the sport exactly? Nostalgia aside almost no one can ride a 450 to its full potential and tracks are way more advanced and entertaining to watch now. Riders now are way better than the last generation of riders
How did I make it boring 😂😂😂u literally can’t tell the difference they do the exact same stuff🤦🏼♂️
@@chrishansen8026 How have they ruined the sport? Well I don't want to get into a "flame war" but here it is:
1) The cost of maintaining a 4 stroke is MUCH higher than a 2 stroke. When I raced(I even made it the pros and had a Honda support rider sponsorship, so I have been around the track a few times…). On a 2 stroke, we could strip down the ENTIRE engine, replace the rings, put new reeds, change piston, re-jet the carburator, etc… and it could be done in one day, and costed much less. No problems with valves or adjusting valves, no fuel injection, or electronics to break, etc, etc.etc.etc.. And the 2 strokes are fast AF!!
2) Besides maintenance, 4 strokes cost a lot to buy. Again, they have more complex engines, more parts, heavier, complex fuel injection, complex electronics.
3) 2 stroke racing was massively intense. Back and forth, people passing constantly, etc.etc.. I watch 4 stroke pro racing, for example in the US, and it is pretty much a parade follow the leader. There is much less passing, it is much less frantic, it seems like an enduro with jumps compared to the 2 stroke motocross races.
4) 2 strokes are lighter, and subjectively much funner to ride, and to watch.
5) The sound. Yeah baby. Nothing beats the 2 strokes
Conclusion: Cheaper, lighter, faster, easier to maintain, funner, more wild, and sound awesome.
If you have never been in a 2 stroke race in the 90's, I mean, be there actually in person not watch it on an old VHS video, you really can't understand. The races, they can make your stomach and heart come up your throat, they are intense and intimidating. Although, yeah, there is still the 80's and superminis(I think they're called) at Loretta Lynn's, so little ones still get a taste.
@@brettorton2363 Of course, the race was definately not boring, good battles, and fun to watch. But I perfer the 2 smokers.
Deckard 5 Pegasus sorry about your nostalgia blinding you. They might be cheaper but four strokes are the future so sorry you can’t get with the program grandpa, and the weight of four strokes isn’t really an issue anymore. They really aren’t that much faster anymore either and you can compare lap times of a 250 2 and 4T. Funner isn’t a word nor is it true it’s all up to preference. They are only wild because of the powerband. And 4 strokes are louder and sound loads better, they are deep and bark unlike those weed whacking mosquito sounding engines.
The power is on or off. That's pretty much the perfect explanation for one of these.
Not actually much Red on the 'Big Red'
yeah, I noticed that too, haha. but they're obviously referring to RED as Honda's team color.
I didn't expect anything less 2 strokes for life.

As much as I love the 500s, in a straight line my Aprilia 550 will pull away on most.... if I can get it to start lol ;)

I can't even here the CR500 most of the time. All the 4 strokes are farting up the track so its hard to here the CR500.

Are you kidding me you have to be we're sticking with a Honda CR500 at least us fans are while you're tucked away in KTM land
Very cool! Love the 2 stroke sound and smell. I need to get my 1986 TRX250R out of the garage and at least start it. Wish I could ride again...
