Thanks for watching! Let me know your thoughts on the Agony of Doha, and how you think Japan will get on in Qatar this time for the 2022 World Cup!

group stage exit with Moriyasu. Waste of such a great generation....

Yes, I fear that could happen. The performances during qualification haven't been great

@@LostinFootballJapan unless we get some absolute dogwater teams in our draw (best case would be portugal-USA-Japan-new zealand or something) i can't see us getting out. Fingers crossed for friday!

@@blazo8700 I really don't think anyone would say this is a group with Japan being favorite

0 high expectations, but excited to watch the World Cup as a whole! Mainly because of Moriyasu. In my mind, my 23 squad would be:
GK: Kawashima (team entertainer 1), Tani, Gonda (Schmidt if you count only the most reliable options)
DF: Nakayama, Nagatomo (team entertainer 2), Yoshida, Itakura, Tomiyasu, Taniguchi, Yamane, Sakai (either Ogawa or Noborizato as a LB if you count reliable players
MF: Endo, Tanaka, Morita, Hatate, Kubo, Minamino, Kamada
FW: Mitoma, Doan, Ito, Daizen, Ueda
(Wish Esaka, Araki and Machida and Okugawa could have a space in there)
I honestly think this would be better than Moriyasu picking up Asano, Shibasaki, Haraguchi, Naomichi, Hashioka and Musashi Suzuki

Hopefully Japan will reach the quarterfinals this year! They have a great team.

Yes, I think they should definitely be able to reach the quarter-finals with this team. Let's hope they can do it!

Japan was the nation I followed at the last world cup because USA failed to qualify. I remember that Belgium game. Most hyped I had been for a world cup match since the world cup before that when USA's GK Tim Howard was playing out of his mind. I do hope Japan do well but they are in a really rough group this time around. Great vid👍

It was such a shame Japan couldn't hold on against Belgium, and it's going to be really tough to get out of the group this time around. I'm also looking forward to England versus the USA in the group stage!

I watched that game live at the time (Japan vs Iraq 1993). Our national team (Iraq) despite having the golden era of generation of players wasted a MAJOR chance to qualify again to the WC in USA after qualifying to Mexico 86. Iraq lost ONLY one game to North Korea in the first game of this final round, with relatively acceptable results against other teams, and North Korea won ONLY one game against Iraq (and lost ALL the remaining matches). Had Iraq won against N. Korea with all same results (including the J agony) it would have secured a spot in USA 94. That qualification round left a bitter taste in the Iraqi soccer memory too (many consider it an Iraqi agony too).
Ahmed Radhi was one of the greatest Asian players of all times (1988 Asian best player winner). RIP captain Ahmed Radhi. We lost him to the evil Corona too soon😥

Thanks for the comment! That's really interesting. I didn't realise that this qualification campaign was an agony for Iraq, too. It seemed like a really tough qualification group with many strong teams.
And I was really sad to hear about the passing of Ahmed Radhi. Such a shame. A legend of Asian football

@@LostinFootballJapan For Iraq it was the opposite to Japan situation. We lost the chance to qualify for World Cup in the first game. Imagine the Iraqi NT was leading 2-0 until around the 73rd min then loosing 2-3 at the end of the match. 3 goals came in in a matter of 10 minutes. Hence why it was the most disastrous match in Iraqi soccer history.
Thank you for your videos. Please keep up your good work.

Back then it was not easy to qualify from Asia .. Only top two of six tough teams can qualify .. Final three matches of the group played at the same time and with five teams of the six with qualification hopes still alive but no guarantees yet .. I remember switching tv channels to check results .. it was crazy exciting ..
    ..
Our team ( Iraq ) failed to qualify but they were close .. losing their fist match against North Korea proved to be fatal .. after that they beat Iran and drew three matches against South Korea , Saudi Arabia and Japan .. but it wasn't enough to qualify ..

Excellent video! I can understand what japanese people feels about this event, because we had a similar event in France the same year for the WC qualifying : France-Bulgaria. A goal at the 90th minute which qualify Bulgaria and eliminate us for USA 94 WC. A tragedy which haunt us a lot when we play qualifying games for WC every year.

Thank you! And I think I remember that France-Bulgaria game! If I remember correctly, David Ginola gave the ball away for the Bulgaria goal, and he never played for France again.
      Thanks for the comment!
