Mike, thank you so much for this video. I'm an old guy now but I remember bowling on conditions like this where the balls didn't hook much unless like Beverly Bowl in Montebello California on a Saturday night where the oil was gone and the only shot was deep inside. Best to you.
The Showboat is NOT the oldest stop on the PBA Tour. The very first PBA tour stop was the Empire State Open at Albany, NY in 1959, won by Dick Weber. It was held at Schade's Academy of Bowling, a 14-lane house that hosted TV Tournament Time, a local bowling show, for many years. I watched many a match on TV when I was a junior bowler 1964-1967. The last time I knew of the Empire State Open was in 2002 when it was held at The Bowler's Club in Latham, NY. They were my home lanes until I moved away in 1985.
@@robs531 That IS a shame. My usual haunt was the Bowlers Club on Rte 7 in Latham. It has been gone 15 years now. I understand there is a restaurant there that has tables and a bar made from the wood from the lanes. I wonder if they used lanes 41 and 42 where I had my first 300 game.
This was one of several Pro Bowlers Tour episodes over the years where Bud Palmer filled in for Chris Schenkel who was off on another ABC assignment. He handled the show well and also did the videotaped season of Championship Bowling.
i really hope they will show these old telecasts again but then in color instead of black and white. I always try to think the colours by the telecast matching with old photo's Really love this
Watching that last match was one of the most exciting events of my weekend. A great tournament with great commentary. A great day for Mr. Lampo. I used to livein Binghamton, near Endicott. Is Mr. Lampo still alive? McHugh was a cranker.

The city of Albany no longer has ANY bowling centers once the Playdium closed. An absolute shame.
By the way Lou Campi won that first event in 1959.
@@robs531 Lou Campi was NOT the first PBA winner. Dick Weber won the first ever event. Look it up online.

@@philipdefranco2340 Exactly, look it up. I didn’t need to, Joe Donato always spoke fondly of it. He would have known, he bowled in the event.
1972: they had to keep reminding people that the Super Bowl was coming up! And Liberace's little brother was the tournament leader.
it was an amzing stepladder finals in the Showboat Invitational

Gus Lampo is still alive and living in upstate NY
I saw Gus at Tioga Downs before COVID. Great guy, I absolutely love this archive.
