Too long, those hands of greed, held on and made us bleed... Bill Whelan is a genius in my opinion. The song and lyrics are incredible, the harmonies are incredible and the arrangement is incredible.
This was always one of my favorites in the earlier versions of Riverdance (also the one I took my father to) as I understand later editions of the show were tweaked removing this song and replacing with another .. OH and fyi 1996 performance recently went on sale in Vudu / Digital, and the SD transfer is currently screwed up .. they pulled widescreen SD and compressed the aspect ratio to 4:3 so if you watch in SD to save bandwidth, you get extra tall people .. the HDX transfer is correctly presented in widescreen though the quality of both is not as good as the original DVD I have .. **original original** dvd .. where you had to flip it over because they couldn't fit the full performance on one side!
lord where is our freedom when will our hope begin ? lord what of the promise you made when will it come ? we have waited for the time! for the truth to live when justice will shine! too long those hands of greed held on and made us bleed when will your people breathe lord will it come ? lord what of our children will they always depend on you ? lord why are they scattered and torn and their young hearts in chains? how they hunger for liberty! feel their hatred of poverty let their spirits rise soaring free!!!!! lord let it come our day will come!!!!!!!!!
Hi, I witnessed this performed live in Mpls, MN 3 times with this exact cast (OK, lead dancer was different the 3rd time) The whole show was mind blowing and notice that there are no Microphones... Except the ones near the floor of the stage. Truly stunning and beautiful to say the LEAST!
Jes I think the solo singer wore a microphone. At around 1:30, I saw a hint of a potential microphone clipped to the bottom of his shirt buttons. I could be wrong since the lighting was somewhat dark but it could be a microphone, also could be something else
This performance is on the DVD Riverdance: Live From the Radio City Music Hall, You can find it on Amazon. My favorite version of Riverdance! www.amazon.com/Riverdance-Radio-Music-Two-Disc-Collectors/dp/B000ZOT8NG
@@LaineyCakes1991 I saw an interview with Bill Whelan last week and he stated that for the 30th anniversary, he was asked to re-record the soundtrack. Hopefully all the songs from both the 1995 and 1996 show, will be on there.
in the deep night from a dark space i hear voices calling out in heart ache they are wounded they are broken but their spirits rises when awoken! yes! they may be poor in birth but yes how great each one is worth! heal their hearts! feed their souls! their lives can be golden if your love enfolds! in their dream times in their visions how they always hunger after freedom! every heart load every dark road leads them on to reach a new horizon!!!!!! yes! they may be poor in birth! but yes ! how great each one is worth! heal their hearts! feed their souls! their lives can be golden if your love infolds! heal their hearts! feed their souls! their lives can be golden if your love infolds!!!!!!
Some of the most beautiful vocals I have ever heard! Let me put it this way, I have some serious experience and this gentleman has left an indelible blessing on the choral scene.
Have heard several versions of this (or seen on youtube) but this voice is the one that stands out. A bit like Colm Wilkenson singing 'Bring Him Home' from Les Mis, it's as if this was written with this voice in mind. Can someone confirm this is Ivan Thomas?
s anyone ever heard the version where there is a black choir singing this song. It was during an actual Riverdance concert performance. I can't find it anywhere.

June 2020. The world is on fire. And I keep thinking of this song. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
So true!

I saw some of the members of the Moscow Folk Ballet Company in this performance.
Wonderful song! And, what a voice! The arrangement is beautiful.
This performance gets me where I live every time, the solo is steller and the choirs especially awesome.

One of my favourite Irish songs
I sooo wish this version was on the sound track album. But, can't find it anywhere. Wonderful deep singing voice!
David DiStefano The guy who did it originally had an even deeper voice. But I’ve also heard this done with a tenor and it works.

It used to be on the album version on Spotify, but they've taken it off! So annoyed!

Saw this in NYC and I must admit this performance so brainwormed me.
Love this so much since my choir sang it - 10 years and I still sing it to myself all the time

The first time I heard this performance I felt exactly the same way! Sounds so close to Les Miserables
Yes, it's Ivan Thomas. And the song was written for his voice.
@@midgeflinn5345 Are you sure?
@@George040270 yes I'm sure. I know Ivan. Check out more of his music on my RUclips channel.
You mean the human singing chicken/rooster colm Wilkinson?
Freedom All Together (4:59)
Stunning
Why can't they put captions on this? It would make it easier to watch ,especially those of us who have hearing problems!!

Sorry, this one is better.
Not me at 3 years old thinking this was the same guy from the Princess Bride
Wish the women cast had some women of color. Theyre are black women who are in Ireland too. Songs are beautiful esp this one.
In the original show in 1995, a Gospel choir sang this song.
