- There’s no denying it, Star Trek is everywhere right now. Whether you’re watching them or not, it’s hard to avoid the looming shadow of Star Trek Discovery, Prodigy, Strange New Worlds, Picard and the truly wonderful Lower Decks.
But in this age of questionable reboots, pointless sequels and regurgitated dross, there is still something that persists in Star Trek. Somewhere, before the sparkling lights and horrific body modifications, there was something quite magical about the world of Trek. And that something - was the Enterprise NCC-1701-D.
You wanna know how many weapons it has, its top speed, sure, have fun, there’s plenty of content out there already. But, what I’ve wanted to know for the last thirty odd years is easy - what would it actually be like to live there?

Life Aboard is a series dedicated to examining what it would be like to live, work and serve aboard some of science fiction's most notorious spaceships. Forget the laser cannons, the made up technobabble and let's ask ourselves what the important questions are - how's breakfast, and where do I sleep?
How does this channel not have more subs, these videos are amazing!!!!
Ahhhh, shucks ☺️ You can help spread the word and share as much as you can!
@@spacedoutgame I'm watching them all lol i hope you keep making great videos buddy 👍
Awesome! More coming soon!
@@spacedoutgame i'm looking forward to them, i hope one day you cover the Battlestar Galactica from the Ronald D Moore era 😁
@@Sh_rib Watch this space 😇
As a Star Trek fan I find this video hilarious 😂 and spot on. Especially the negative aspects of Starfleet being a civilian on a Starfleet ship. Instant like 👍🏾 and subscribe.
Legitimately upset I can’t live there, or at least in Star Trek genuinely! No bigotry, no bills and all the food you can eat? Ah well this video certainly helped my daydreams to become more real
If you think about how almost every episode they run to red alert, "stressful" life aboard the ship is putting it mildly.
Although it's still nominally a military vessel (and yes, arguments about whether Starfleet is actually a military aside, the original series Enterprise was certainly more of a battleship and existed in a time of near constant threats from neighbouring powers; even if Starfleet isn't strictly military their officers were primed and ready like one, and needed to be), TNG's ship undeniably feels much less sterile and much more warm and welcoming. The presence of families and the show focusing a lot more on what the crew do off duty and outside of work hours, and the places they go to relax, there's much more of a feel of a cruise ship to the 1701-D than aboard the original 1701.
Buffer Time was well in use in TOS by Scotty's account.
Yeah... it does seem like crew family probably shouldn't be aboard a ship that routinely goes into mysterious spacial distortions and uncharted nebulae, gets messed about with by Q, and faces off against battleships. It'd probably be fine for, say, a vessel that's primarily involved in peacetime transport and surveying, but not the flagship that's establishing first contact with new civilisations, going to the edge of the neutral zone, encountering powerful space entities, and fighting the BORG.
I used to occasionally use 'Buffer time' when I worked as a cinema projectionist.
At 13:15 Replication technology isnt used by absolutely everyone as far as clothing or tapestry is concerned. The machines may have a few options but there are shops aboard space stations (deep space nine) and other colonies or planets they visit. Shops, Tailors, Barbers, Bartenders, Restaurants all that stuff is still needed and constantly used in the Star Trek universe. Some people are lazy and some people have no talent or imagination or don't like the options in the replicator. So, regardless if you're assigned to a starship such as the Enterprise D or smaller ships like the U.S.S. Rhode Island or U.S.S. Intrepid, replicators don't replace those things entirely.
Extra capacity is built into warships designed for long term use.
Warships designed before WW2 had difficulty as new systems were added during the war. New radars took up room, required more electrical power, and space for the crews. All this in addition to new and/or additional weapons systems that were designed and added which also took up space and required more crew.
The Burke class destroyers are arguably the best ever deployed, but the extra space built into the design had over the decades been filled up and a newer, probably bigger design will soon be needed.
I love how you used the ‘Land of Chocolate’ theme from The Simpsons. Nice touch.
This channel is great, thank you random youtube recommend, subbed!
I was alarmed & dismayed to find no mention in the entirety of the video of the presence of a really good yarn shop 😀
Just goes to show, even in the 24th century any barkeep worth their salt still keeps a scattergun behind the bar. In our time it scatters buckshot, in the future, the unlucky sod's atoms.
Do one on discovery ship is that one similer size? If it is why do they share bedrooms well apart from high up ppl but even ppl who work 9n the bricge is sharing rooms. Thanks loved this episode. P. S I only mentioned the discovery cus I like the ship.
At 22:02 the video skips, there's a portion about food cut out.
I'll say one thing about this video nice touch with the computer start up sequence from Alien at the beginning of the video.
A fellow sound fx-aphile, I see! Good spot 😎
Great work! Very entertaining
Hey man, great work, but there's a jump between 21:59 and 22:03?
You can blame RUclips’s copyright squids for that one!
@@spacedoutgame ah that sucks, well your vids are great man, can't wait to see you at a million subs
@@chocolateskull6239 ah thanks matey! Will do my best!
Dont go to far...she has limitation of distance❤🙂
Is the Galactica on the list?
It’s on its way!
I wonder if anyone in Starfleet ever played a historic record of a event on a view screen, and requested the computer to make sure the footage is flipped. If not, I'll love to know why it seems it has to be like that.
330sqft is pretty small.
Another Easter egg fan loving Louder Decks. Popularity only rhymes with quality I suppose.

I have no interest in star trek any more 😢
Star Trek died with Enterprise.
Post 2000 Trek isn't Star Trek. It's woke trek.
Nah, Trek was always woke. Plenty of other issues, though!
@@spacedoutgame its now joke woke
Sorry as for the ranks - WRONG in the Nav6, an Ensign is NOT an enlisted rank. In fact its the lowest officer rank, often given to an officer in training.
