True, Eddie Brock works in the story but even acknowledging that, as a villain he still sucks.

Some fun choices here! Strongly disagree with one of them but those top 2 are undeniable. Very fun video.
    My list:
    Awesome:
    - Doc Ock (Spider-Man 2): The epitome of the Raimi series. Everything that people love about this trilogy is exemplified in this character: a sincere, operatic performance underscoring real suffering, sympathetic and ridiculous. He is used so effectively to make for dynamic action sequences and a brilliant finale. No Way Home needed more of him because he just kinda got nothing. That very tiny conversation with Tobey in NWH hit me harder than anything else in that whole film.
    - Green Goblin (Spider-Man '02): There's a reason why the trilogy keeps bringing him back; he isn't just over-the-top, he's flat-out insane, given the most ridiculous lines, performance, and fight scenes. There is a journey here, not so much a character one but rather his relationship with Spider-Man. That final battle is positively brilliant. He is so far out of tone in No Way Home but energizes the screen when he shows up. Making him the main villain of NWH was a great move and has a solid finale.
    Great:
    - The Prowler (Spiderverse): Plenty of economy with his limited screen time, Mahershala is literally god and characterized memorably to make a very strong impact.
    - Vulture (Homecoming): The motivations may have been mostly reused but it's given much more depth here. Keaton has the right edge of a snappy New Yorker, and the menace for this role, and the personal connection to Peter is the cherry atop this delicious cake.
    Good:
    - Sandman (Spider-Man 3): It's so clear that Raimi's theme of forgiveness is embedded into this character's story. Thomas Haden Church brings a real gravity and pathos to every decision Marko makes and that scene in his apartment, along with the personal transformation, is gorgeous. I would've loved the deleted scene with him being a sandcastle for his daughter to be in the film, but it sadly was cut and might've distracted too much. The personal connection is forced and dumb though. Also, No Way Home wastes him almost as badly as Lizard. I loved when he turned into a sandcastle and was initially trying to help Spidey, but that almost immediately dusted away and lost me as a result.
    - Mysterio (Far From Home): Something I realized about Far From Home is that it's trying to reconcile and make fun of the MCU's past and so his motivation is treated so lightly. Any character in the 2nd half goes out the window but he has great sequences and Jake brings sincerity and weight to this character.
    - Kingpin (Spiderverse): Comically big but that contributes to a reliably simple backstory and tons of menace. I would be horrified of this guy if I even saw him on the street.
    - Rhino (Amazing 2): I love this caricature. I don't understand what the hate is. Maybe he doesn't at all jive with the tone of the film but Giamatti and Webb are so clearly making him a memorable cartoonish baddie that getting angry at him seems to be missing the point in my opinion.
    - Doc Ock (Spiderverse): Low on development but hyper-energetic and exciting so that makes for alot.
    Okay:
    - New Goblin (Spider-Man 3): The opening battle, the soapy shenanigans with MJ, and particularly his spot in the finale are pretty great. Just sucks that he keeps coming in-and-out of focus and as hammy as Franco is being, there is a lack of menace or tension with his character.
    Meh:
    - Electro (Amazing 2): Again, potential was entirely squandered in TASM 2; he made for brilliant action sequences, but was played so broadly and creepily that it was impossible to connect to his very real desire to be seen and respected. In No Way Home, Jamie Foxx just gets to be himself and that's nice but they're clearly not the same character. The look was much better and his powers make for some menace but that's about it in NWH.
    - Venom (Spider-Man 3): Topher is a really fun Eddie Brock but a hilariously unexciting villain. The symbiote itself is more terrifying and impactful (Would be on the great-tier if the symbiote itself counted) than Brock since he simply doesn't get much to do.
    - Green Goblin (Amazing 2): Wasted character potential in spite of a solid sequence. There's a heart here, there are ideas here, there's a struggle here, but it needs to be fleshed out WAY more. The Gwen death scene is great but not really because of him.
    - Scorpion (Spiderverse): Strangely memorable because he speaks Spanish to Miles and makes fun of Porker being a cartoon.
    - Lizard (Amazing): Unfairly made into a joke in No Way Home but I think he had great potential as a character because they begin to explore his viewpoint but not enough to where this ridiculous plan makes any sense.
Not Seen Enough Of/Feels Unfair: Tombstone, Green Goblin (Spiderverse), Shocker (Homecoming)

My villians ranking is(with only the first four to be consider great villains in my eyes):
    1. Green Goblin because he’s great as the lunatic psychopath and as Peter’s arch rival.
    2. Sandman. I really love the actor’s silent emotion. Also love all his interactions with all the characters he is pair with, all but Venom.
    3. Vulture. A great starting Villian and best part of the first two MCU Spidey films.
    4. Doctor Octopus: I loved him in both films, but hated how quickly and predictably he became a good guy in No Way Home.
    5. The Lizard. He was a good threat to Andrew’s Spidey and I actually liked how he was the comic relief in No Way Home.
    6. Electro Before No Way Home he was way lower, but I still didn’t loved how drastically they changed him and I still hate his first appearance.
    7. Little Goblin Junior. He wasn’t a full on villain but I liked him in the Raimi trilogy, as a friend and as a foe.
    8. Mysterio. I didn’t care much for the fake hero act and out of all MCU Tony Stark related villains, he is the one that I roled my eyes on the most.
    9. Venom. Too little, too late and too much Topher Grace with bad dental hygiene.
    10. “Shocker”. I actually liked this villain but since the 2000’s Spider-Man games where he was actually a threat, he has become a throwaway Spidey villain.
    11. The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s “Green Goblin”. Never go full Goblin!
    12. Rhino. The worst of the worst.
As for Kingpin From Spiderverse, I thought he was way overrated and didn’t care for him and I would put him between Topher Grace’s Venom and “Shocker”, same goes for the Venom villains which I also didn’t care for at all!

@@AdamLemdonLemon I don't know. I just felt that Harry's turn to the Goblin was incredibly rushed. They basically tried to squeeze Raimi Harry's arc that took place across three movies into this one movie, thus making him someone I couldn't empathize with at all. It's clear that he has plenty of time to figure out how to stop the disease, amd the fact that he immediately jumps to taking Peter's blood and experimenting on himself makes him come off as impatient and whiny. Not to mention, I found his version of Green Goblin to be cringeworthy, from the bizarre visualization to tiny details like the laugh. Now, the fact that I think he's a terrible villain doesn't reduce the emotional impact of Gwen's death, which in and of itself is an incredibly well done sequence. I just really hate what they did with him. I mean, yeah, Rhino sucks, but at the very least, he's ironically kind of amusing in how dumb he is. He also gets less screen time to be terrible.

Mysterio is even funnier when you realize he’s basically an evil MCU director. Focuses on CGI fights, has high standards, he has writers trying to make comic book plots believable and give him one-liners, does reshoots

  • @TomboTime
    @TomboTime 2 года назад

(ranking of the live action villains)
    1. Green Goblin (Willam Dafoe)
easily the biggest threat to Peter Parker's life. The man defined an ongoing major conflict throughout the entire Raimi trilogy and was the one who took the most from Tom Holland Peter Parker too.
    2. Doc Ock
A little less ruthless than Goblin but just as iconic. The man radiates badass.
    3. Vulture
He earns his spot sheerly for having the single greatest plot twist in the MCU. Also Michael Keaton's amazing performance makes him the most charismatic villain since the early Raimi days.
    4. Electro
Even though his movie gets a bad rap, Electro has a lot going for him. Insanely catchy villain theme, cool look and sound and in his film he created INCREDIBLY high stakes (all of new york losing power and a plane set to crash).
    5. Mysterio
He had an amazing illusion sequence in his film and he kickstarted the crumbling of Peter Parker's life. Personally he loses points with me because his twist is super predictable and after it's revealed he gets incredibly hokey IMO (and not in a good way like the Raimi films).
    6. Sandman
A great sympathetic villain; probably the easiest to feel for of any. He has the best scenes in Spider-Man 3.
    7. New Goblin
A lot of buildup to this character throughout the Raimi trilogy. While he's not as cool as his dad, He still manages to get some cool quotes and moments here and there.
    8. Lizard
not all that interesting to be honest. He mainly just gets this spot because he is the only remaining villain that could be argued as the main one for his film with lots of screentime.
    9. Venom
Even though his appearance in Spider-Man 3 is a let down to say the least, at LEAST it's a product of listening to the fans, and his involvement does lead to some of the most unintentionally funny bits of that film.
    10. Goblin (Dane deHaan)
He's responsible for the most dramatic and heartbreaking scene in all the films. That's the only thing going for him. Other than that he is worse than Willam Dafoe's Goblin in every way.
    11. The Rhino
The unfortunate Russian thug is, from here on out, nothing more than a cliffhanger for a movie that is not coming.

I hate that people keep underestimating just how great Spider-Man Homecoming was. Sure it had SOME problems, but in the bigger picture it was just such a fresh and youthful start to a character we already know so much about. We get to feel his most relatable moments where he's kind of just outcasted in his school, and he wants to become a bigger hero, because he thought he would get a role in the avengers. All that selfishness and pride all thrown away when he decides to quit, but then there comes the time where he really needs to stop some bad things from happening no matter what, which is added on by the fact that his enemy is his crush's dad. at the end he just figures out that that's his job, dealing with everyday problems but stepping up when the city NEEDS him to.

To me the complaints about Mysterio I just don't get. Yes he's very petty and not super deep, but that's always been the case in the comics, that's why they make fun of the 'this is for my family' motive that both heroes and villains often get, the whole point is he's not got a deep motive. Not every MCU villain needs to be Killmonger or Wenwu in terms of depth, and FFH understood that by acknowledging it (unlike other comic book films where it's blatantly underwritten characters), and that petty nature makes for a great contrast to his badass hero persona. You're not meant to feel for his character in the same way as the other great Spider-Man film villains, which I think was a clever decision.
A lot of people also take issue with his plan, which is pretty clear cut IMO. With every battle he fakes he builds up his reputation as a hero and with that gains greater influence, thus the London attack would've allowed him even greater fame since it would have been his biggest one yet. Sure he couldn't last long as an Avenger without being discovered, but FFH's ending and NWH illustrated that he knew how to play the media, his final line summed it up really well. Even if he was exposed he still had time to gain influence over people to where plenty would have still believed him. Even then if he was eventually caught he just wanted a chance to have his voice heard, so even if it wasn't forever he still probably would've left an impression and succeeded in what he planned. On top of all that it also allowed him to show what his technology could do, which was another central goal he had, even if he was found out his technology would still probably be praised for how it tricked people.
It's also an instance where both his design and powers were executed masterfully, sure he links back to Tony Stark, but linking him to that Civil War hologram tech was GENIUS, both he and the Vulture's links to Tony Stark made sense within the logic of the world. I hear a lot of people say 'he and Vulture are just Iron Man villains that Spider-Man happens to get in the way of', but that kind of idea is the case with so many of Spider-Man's comic villains, they have their own needs and wants that don't link to Peter Parker, at most they'll sometime link to Norman Osborn, but Spider-Man gets in their way when they commit crimes, that's the basis of most of their rivalries with Spider-Man.
Both the Vulture and Mysterio I feel were great adaptations in how they captured the core of each character's comic counterpart whilst also adding great new elements to them. The Vulture just like the comics wants to stick it to the wealthy higherups who've undermined him his whole life, but he's also a black market weapons dealer literally scavenging superhero battles like a Vulture. Mysterio just like the comics is an incredibly smart and talented individual who just wants fame and attention, but then they play up aspects like the media and elements of paranoia and betrayal with both his abilities and having him as a temporary false mentor to Peter, unlike the comics where he's clearly a villain from the start.

My favourite overall Spider-Man villain is Doc Ock because Alfred Molina was great but also the PS4 version was absolutely amazing. I really liked Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2, but I didn’t like what they did with him in No Way Home. I just didn’t feel the threat with him in the new movie. Tom Holland literally had him tied up for 2/3 of the movie. I’m not bothered by the fact that four of the villains, including Ock, were locked up for half the film. You could still feel Electro’s craziness, so they could have done that with Ock as well. The fact that Holland controlled him for most of the movie just removes the threat.
However, I agree with the rankings between Willem DaFoe’s Green Goblin and Molina’s Doc Ock. Both my favorites as well. Doc Ock was stellar in 2004, but Green Goblin in 2021 was completely insane. Willem DaFoe and Alfred Molina were perfect casting choices.
