As someone who used to play LoL a lot, yeah, it’s headed that way fast.
Considering it hits literally every bar that makes MOBA/Hero games toxic and then hyper charges them through DOTA style "Everything is OP" balancing, it has the absolute worst parts of *all* the worst communities, with an additional layer of being a super mainstream property, so even MORE people are playing this one than say League or OW and thus the ratio of normal to shithead is *WAY* the hell off from normal.
Competitive games attract competitive people, but many competitive people are, frankly, toxic as fuck and can't handle losing. Hell, many can't even WIN with grace either.
Rivals is quite literally the closest thing to a true primordial soup of toxicity that exists in the current gaming landscape and it WILL get worse.
That comes with the industry sadly, especially a game that's free, relatively beginner friendly, and is always the talk of the week. A game with attention will always bring new people, some good and some bad

Ye. Its one of those things where I used to say like "surely its not that bad" cause ive played with and watched alot of girls in this game, and they didnt have too hard of a time in my experience. Well, I changed my username for a week to something "girly", so to speak, just to see what I would get on comms in solo queue. It was the most toxic chat ive ever seen and ive played pvp since classic halo. Genuinely some of the worst shit in just 7 days. I definitely see what yall mean now, to say the least

Woman here (ew ik): The SHEER amount of men who threw games the moment they heard my voice is unimaginable. Its crazy how many. I either get teamkilled, they throw, they try to ruin my experience by running in front of me / blocking me somehow, or threatening to hurt me in a not so kind way. Other times they harass me to get my number, make annoying noises, etc. I had a male friend who joked bout getting banned from a group after making monkey noises and going "WOMANN!?!!" when he heard one. I had to explain to him like a child that the women weren't sensitive- but its so common for us to deal with these dudes making these "jokes" that is so annoying to the point where we insta remove people now for that, EVEN if they don't mean harm, its THAT common.

As someone who just took a six week sewing class, there was a man there and he was very welcome. My dad was the one who gave me sewing tips growing up too, he had to mend his clothes growing up since its a skill for everyone.

As a woman I have to flex every game or else nobody wants to play supp or tank. I do poorly sometimes but i can tell you with confidence that most losses are due to dps not getting kills- it’s that simple. I remember one game we were stuck in spawn and i had to switch off healer to dps for 10 seconds to push the team out. It was fucking ridiculous.
Also id like to add that women are often expected to perform well if not better than average, or else we get bombarded by misogynistic insults. If i do good its “bare minimum” but if i do bad it’s “because I’m a woman and all women are bad at gaming”. This goes for all activities including gaming.

Most losses are not from the DPS not getting kills. Imagine if I said " I do poorly sometimes but i can tell you with confidence that most losses are due to supports not healing" its just another way for people to blame someone else. Nobody plays perfectly, but we can all play better

When they pulled up the replay I was like “yeah, let's see who really threw”. Not only did I get the closure of knowing she didn't actually throw, but I also got an ego boost from knowing that I, who haven't played the game lately, is better than a Celestial player that is account level 100. That gameplay for likely around 1000 hours is genuinely so pathetic that it's hard to describe.
