I met Mr. Clark Terry at our high school jazz festival, and he was gracious, attentive to our questions, and wanted to teach.

I had the pleasure of seeing CT and band back around 1975. I even recorded it with my little portable cassette unit. It was an awesome night for this teen jazz nerd.

Maynard considered Clark to be the perfect specimen of a trumpet player. Time, swing, pitch, articulation, swing, dynamics, phrasing, swing, swing, concept and swing. He even quotes slide Hamptons solo from The Fugue on Maynard’s Message from Newport. Almost note for note. I’m sure the man was just a musical sponge for everything he heard anywhere. His band, here, is a grand collection of first rate section players. The recording is top notch mono, really great balances. I’d love to see the full personnel..

I'll second what you've said here. My dad was a veteran of the big bands of the 1940's and 50's, then settled in Vegas for the rest of his career, and he also thought Terry was at the top in terms of taste and approach - and a really good guy as well!

No one ever did it better than CT. He kills it here. Vince is a dynamite player and teacher. JJ shares real gold here.😀

Listening again. So good. So tight. Makes me get goosebumps in parts.
