    16:35 - last years Raptors were 5 teams in 1 season.
    1) Pre-OG trade (31 games)
    2) OG trade to Pascal trade (9 games)
    3) Pascal trade to trade deadline (11 games) *
    4) trade deadline to Scottie's injury (9 games)
    5) Post Scottie injury (22 games) **
    Scottie shot 39.5% from three, on 5.7 attempts, before OG was traded.
    Then he took on OG Defensive role, and it affected his legs for his shooting.
    When people talk about his shot falling off, I don't think they took this massive mid-season change into account.
    * Koloko was supposed to be the backup Center.
    ** His replacement, Jontay Porter, was actually good when he wasn't gambling.

      Not so much his legs that were the issue, it's the quality of the 3's he was taking. With Pascal and OG in, the shots Scottie were getting were better, when he became the offensive focal point after the trades, shot quality decreased significantly as IQ and RJ weren't equal replacement to OG and Pascal in terms of their shot generation for the rest of the field at the time. With some chemistry with IQ and RJ, his shot quality should once again improve.

    Does anyone else think the "#1 option" should be redefined from the best scorer to the best decision maker?
    Whether that's getting your own shot, or finding the shooter with the better shot.
    Like Lebron, even though he's the all-time scorer, he's always been a play maker first.
    Maybe it's the analytical version of a #1 option, but it should be the real version.

    • @FS-zt6tm
      @FS-zt6tm 2 месяца назад +1

      #1 option should be the best decision maker that can make timely buckets. They should be able to run the offense throughout the course of game with smart decision making but also be able to score in late clock situations or when the offense falls apart and other players are struggling to make shots.

    Scottie has no real ceiling tbh. He can be as good as he wants to be, he has the physical tools and the unteachable IQ & reading of the game. He will become a great shooter and no one will be able to stop him. His playmaking and help defensive instincts put him above guys like Paolo & Chet in terms of potential for me.

    Question for Malaga Drive: Jalen Johnson is a similar archetype to Scottie right? What does Jalen Johnson need to improve on to be in Scottie’s tier?

    • @malagadrivehoops6634
      @malagadrivehoops6634  2 месяца назад +1

      @@beckembrown7002 I think the biggest difference is Jalen is more of a play finisher and Scottie is a play initiator. I honestly love both of their games. But for Jalen to play more of a Scottie role he’d have to improve his handle more. The thing is bc Trae is there I’m not sure he’ll ever be fully asked or really even needs to do that. Jalen legit can/should be an all star even without being the main initiator. But that’s the biggest difference between the two rn. Scottie’s finishing numbers are also better but I don’t worry about that with Jalen. (Btw made a vid on Jalen a couple months ago)

  • @robertbarnes2976
    @robertbarnes2976 2 месяца назад +1

    Imagine if he was passing to real NBA players. Other than RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, there isn't much to work with. Chris Boucher is 6'9" but has brutal basketball IQ and a very deficient skillset. Jacob Poetl is a 7 footer who can't shoot and can barely dunk. Bruce Brown is a very marginal player who doesn't shoot well and is small. When Pascal Siakim, who can really play, was there he spent too much time at midcourt yelling "I'm open" and not enough time cutting to the rim. Jalen McDaniels, who is now gone, was just useless.

    • @FS-zt6tm
      @FS-zt6tm 2 месяца назад +2

      I think the biggest thing Scottie needed was movement shooters and off ball cutters, not ISO heavy players like Siakam. OG was a perfect fit next to Scottie but he wanted out and I think Quickley and Barrett fit next to Scottie just as well because of Quickley's ability to shoot and Barrett's ability to cut. Bruce Brown on paper should fit well since he's supposedly an elite off ball cutter but for some reason he forgot how to finish around the rim last season. We drafted a couple of movement shooters with a lot of potential in Gradey and JaKobe. I think we're headed in the right direction in putting the right pieces around Scottie. I think the next move is to replace Poeltl with a big that can actually space the floor and provide rim protection but those types of bigs are rare. Poeltl is a good off ball cutter for a big and an underrated passer so he's not a bad option as a stop gap solution at center.
