The grandpa part made me tear up ❤ never a bitch lol people so cool so loving and they're just gone forever sucks. Having recipes cooking them remembering them I'd be tearing up randomly to
I'm with you on the pepper steak. My mother used to make pepper steak all the time. It is definitely my go to nostalgic dish as well. No tomatoes and she put it over rice. Thanks for the memories. Haven't had it in many years as well. You make me want to try your grandmother's recipe. Looks awesome!!! Thank you.
Thank you for this video. This is how my grandmother and mother both made their pepper steak. Miss having them around to tell me how. Anyway, all the new pepper steak recipes that you look up are usually pepper corn types. They definitely can not compete with this recipe. Making it tonight. Can’t wait. Thanks again
Ok, I never would have thought of using the mushroom juice that way. SO SMART! And frugal!👍The clip of Grandpa talking to Seany made me tear up a little.❤️ My mom and grandma made a Portuguese soup, Caldo Verde, (kale soup before kale was trendy) that just takes me BACK when I make it. With potatoes and elbow macaroni. Because thats how my Nana Viera (great gram) made it.🍲🇵🇹 Always served with Papo Secos, crusty but tender rolls. 🤗
I lost my mom May 2023 and I sooo miss her Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner. It's the some meal her mom made every holiday. Grandma Trueblood also made the best mac & cheese.
Nobody in my family were great cooks, so my nostalgia meal is the lasagna made by a sweet older lady at church. My dad can't have dairy, so it was a super special thing when I got to have it (always my birthday request meal.)
My grandma made this too! My wife Kelli and I still make this a few times a year. So cool that you have video of you and grandpa talking, unfortunately my grandparents passed before technology existed. If it helps at all my grandmas recipe says 1-1 ratio of liquid and water for the gravy.
Such a beautiful vlog today, Sean. I love that you have that recipe and so many great memories of sharing time and food with your grand-mother. I’m ITCOMAGIC, so my answer to your question is (obviously) Porcupine Meatballs and Saucy Pork-chops. You’ve tried two of my family’s dishes; it’s time I tried one of yours. I’ll make it this week. Thank you for sharing. - Doug
Whenever i make my grandmas porcupine meatballs it brings me back to great memories with her...must be a Midwestern thing...i thoroughly enjoy your vids keep it up man. Even though im from Minnesota GO LIONS

I’m definitely going to make this for Sunday dinner
Mom wasn't much of a cook when I was younger, but she did make porcupine meatballs every now and again and now I make them. They are about the most nostalgic thing for me.
WOW! How cool was that?!?! A simple yet amazing recipe that spans generations. Your grandma would be proud Sean. You have a new subscriber from this episode. Thanks for sharing & cook on sir....
Best video! Sooo fucking relatable and hilarious. Try we might, but we can never make it like a grandparent ( OR parent) 🙌❤️ Ps - LOVE you tried to "plate" it similarly as well. Because that MATTERS!! 😂
Your best vid yet! Adding to my list! My grandma's ham and cheese sandwich, during harvest(only known to me and my grandpa). My mom's bierocks that my kids and I fight over ... nearly to the death. LOL
That’s one dish from my past I recently rediscovered. Pretty everything you did until the mushroom gravy. I throw flour in when the steak is browning. I would add fresh mushrooms and tomatoes. That sounds good. My wife likes it over rice. My comfort food from home is goulash. Durning the winters in Iowa that was always some of that in the fridge for lunch, after school snack or whatever. My recipe has morphed from my Mom’s to maybe a more refined one let’s say.
You did your Grams proud, Sean. My only tweak would be adding a little butter and Kraft stinky cheese to the noodles. My favorite Mom meal was steak picado and fideo. My favorite Dad meal was Red Chilaquiles. My Aunt Dolly's homemade lasagna is the single tastiest food I've ever eaten. I miss you all.
My favorite comfort food still to this day is hamburger and potatoe casserole. I've tweaked it a little bit over the years but gives me those warm heart hugs.
So im totally making this, this weekend. My grandma's stuffed cabbage rolls are something I miss,I haven't had them since she passed away over 20 years ago
Thank you for sharing your grandma’s pepper steak recipe with us! I love how you have the handwritten copy from your grandma, what a treasure to have. This looks amazing and definitely a comfort meal my family will be trying during these cold Chicago winters!
I'm SO making this! My Grannie made this awesome goulash and never got the recipe. I made it once that was close, but it wasn't the same. I wish I had gotten it before she passed away.
Oh man that looks so good. My grandma always made creamy chicken and noodles with homemade noodles. it was always my favorite, my aunt is going to teach me how to make it.
one of our staples growing up circa 1975-1985 was homemade tuna helper. my ma would use Muellers egg noodles(cooked separate) several cans of tuna, butter, milk, S&P and the cheese pouch from kraft mac and cheese. BANGER, long before Tuna helper was a thing. She also made homemade sloppy Joes long before manwich was a thing.
Chicken a la king, I grew up with it and I have my own recipe as well based on my family’s, as a kid I had it on egg noodles but it’s good on so many things, waffles are another good thing to put it on if it’s a breakfast, and sometimes I’ll even add a fried egg.
“Turkey Bone Soup”(if it had a name)… A little too late for the season however my Grandpa would make soup right after Thanksgiving dinner. Start by boiling the turkey bones and then he would add,(sorry I never got the recipe 😢) spices, onions, carrots, celery, tomatoes, leftover turkey and not sure what else. If it was ready that same night we would get to have a small bowl yet it was really for lunch the next day… I think it was his way of getting his family over twice for Thanksgiving! Because we would all show up the next day for that soup!!❤😢
Dude its cold af in Northeast Ohio tonight and could smash a big plate of that. Also my mom made her version of beef stroganoff and left some of it and a bag of egg noodles on the seat of my truck while i was at work it was so good on a cold ne ohio snowy night
Hay seany! My grandfather was second wave on D day on Omaha beach. While he was in the service he was introduced to chip beef on toast, aka shit on a shingle. My grandma learned how to make it for him because he liked it so much. Then taught my mom, who made it for me and my brother for breakfast before we would go snowboarding at ol Pine Knob here in clarkston MI. If you like biscuits and gravy you will love this. You can find chip beef at Kroger or a local super market. It comes in a jar. It's thin like steakems. But very salty. When you make a white gravy, just like making sausage gravy don't add salt. Once it's together just add chip beef and black pepper to taste. Make some toast and cover with the gravy. Toast is the shingle, gravy is the shit. If you don't want to make it from scratch you can find a stofers premade version in the refrigerated or frozen breakfast section.
Oh man, I loooove chipped beef. I had it on my channel years ago for the Stouffer's version which you can watch here: ruclips.net/video/-Q4tt0Eu6H0/видео.html I ended up making it with some friends from scratch months after that episode. Reminds me of my grandpa because he used to eat this back in the WWII days, as well.
Quick question is it better for you that I watch the video when it comes right out or it doesn't make a difference I try to save up yours so I can watch a couple in a row but if it's better for me to watch them right away let me know
Not sure how your channel came up on our feed but that's okay. Who doesn't like a gramma recipe, right? Oh and after seeing some of your other videos after this one, had to come back and it has to be said; your wife looks and sounds a lot like Jessica Tarlov. Lastly, you should check out some soul food around 87th & the Ryan or anywhere in the Englewood neighborhood on a Friday night around 9PM if you're a thrill seeker. 😀Cheers!
You can get round steak, stew meat or whatever steak you honestly want - the slow simmer of it really makes it tender so you’ll be golden with whatever you can find
Nothing as fancy as your grandma's dish..but good ol tater tot casserole..brown some ground beef and drain..add 2 small cans or cream of mushroom soup and 2 drained cans of French cut green beans into a 13x9 dish.mix well with about half a bag of mozzarella cheese and top with tater tots evenly..bake until tots are golden then top with the rest of the cheese...simple and delicious meal
I miss & love ya, grandma! 🩷
Perfect 👌
And I know ya Grandma misses you also.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I miss my grandma and grandpa too they both lived till they were 90 and passed away in 2015 ❤
Dude that looks so good man you have to save me a plate
This is probably my favorite video you've made. I related to every detail. "I think I just saw my grandma". ❤
I still miss my mom’s stuffed cabbage and sauerkraut soup with pork and Kluski noodles.
This is your GREATEST dish ever!!! Your Grandma had some serious game, and so do you ❤!!!!
My Irish stepmom made a badass meatball stew, I salivate typing this..
Has Aly ever met Kylie?
That looks like a perfect snow day meal

Great work making Grandmas pepper steak, I could actually smell and taste it in my mind from yours to Margie’s years ago. Excellent video, thank you!
So much nostalgia and so many great memories
A beautiful memory and a tasty recipe. You did Grandma proud.
Glad you honored the recipe exactly. 😋
Looked great, and very simple to make. You made your grandma proud by making it.
That looks delicious! Especially on these cold Chicago days.
Hey loved the video! Fellow Detroiter here definitely miss my mom's stuff cabbage and belive or not liver and onions!! 🥲
Nobody in my family were great cooks, so my nostalgia meal is the lasagna made by a sweet older lady at church. My dad can't have dairy, so it was a super special thing when I got to have it (always my birthday request meal.)

We make the krautstrudel recipe that my Grandma always made for Christmas, every Christmas ourselves now.

Family recipes are the best they bring back such memories you're getting more views than number six with cheese
What a wonderful thing to have her handwritten recipe. I hope you’re keeping it safe!

Gotta love those Porcupine Meatballs! They were on my mom’s Mt Rushmore of dishes growing up.
Love this! My wife and I have all our parents and grandparents recipes. It's always so nostalgic to make one. Always appetizer bites 😃
Having ‘em all on hand is such a treat
WOW! How cool was that?!?! A simple yet amazing recipe that spans generations. Your grandma would be proud Sean. You have a new subscriber from this episode. Thanks for sharing & cook on sir....

I miss my grandma’s chicken & rice and beef & barley soup.

Making this tonight. My mom always made awesome pepper steak. I’m doing it this way but with fresh shrooms and over jasmine rice.
Every human steals a bite. Ask Ramsey G 😂❤
This looks great. I'd add carrots to it. I'll give it a try next week!

Chicken and dumplings. Thats the one!
I always taste my cooking to check for seasoning.
That looks so comforting, thak ytou for sharing
When my mom made pepper steak we put it on mashed potatoes
That would work so, so well, too. I gotta do that soon.
This would also be delicious!
My mom’s cornbread dressing. Definitely a southern thing. Most people probably eat stuffing.
Man I can remember back o
In the early days of the vlog you didn't even know how to use a can opener How far you come . Grandma would be proud
She’s proud that I can successfully use 11% of the things in my kitchen
@HeySeanEly well it 2025 let's make it 12.5%
What oil do you use? Looks so good!
Half olive oil half avocado oil
Kase Knepfla! It's a old old family recipe and takes like 5 hours to make but so worth it
Just stopped back in to get the ingredients and I will be making this tomorrow
Send pics!!

I can’t find Mueller’s at my Jewel..where did you get them?
These are available at Pete’s Fresh Market!
@ Perfect! Found them at Pete’s on 95th Street! Thank you.
Question I know it says beef stirfry but what cut of meat I can’t find any pre-cut beef stir fry like this
You can get round steak, stew meat or whatever steak you honestly want - the slow simmer of it really makes it tender so you’ll be golden with whatever you can find
