Thank you for doing the walk through with replacing the door speakers. I am going to replace the 6x9s in my 2016 jeep grand cherokee lorado very soon and your video showed me everything i needed to know
Just a heads up- you don't actually need to remove the 10mm bolt in the door handle to take off the door (which means the handle won't fall down like yours did) and 2, leave the window switches alone and just reach down while holding the door panel and unclip the harness from underneath the switch inside the door panel. It's easy and you avoid possible damage to the vinyl around the switches.
@@Matt014X No problem. Great video BTW. I've taken the front door panels on my 2015 GJC at least 10+times (changed out speakers twice, upgraded the speaker wire, added deadening, tried foam speaker baffle and took it out, then added more deadning, then wrapped the fake wood, then chose another color and wrapped it again, and then ran very subtle LED light strips on the doors just under the panel gap wood trim. Currently orange, but I'm going to change to blue or white-I have both). I'm no expert, but I've come to know those doors extremely well for better or worse and have the cuts and foul language to prove it. LOL.
Thanks for this video, I would love to buy the same speaker to upgrade after watching. I have two confusions, does the focal iss 690 comes with 2 tweeters or just 1? I only see one in the picture of box. And what's the cable used in 17:24. Is that cable comes with focal set or I need to buy it separately? Thank you
This looks an exercise in trying to cut ones self with a seemingly sharp pocket knife. I would use a variety of hard plastic pry tools for everything but hay, just me. Is there any room for the slightly larger box style crossovers that come with most component speakers?
Matt what's going on thanks for the video I have a 2015 that I plan on upgrading the speakers as well. I have a question what was that third wire that you did not connect for the tweeter? Thanks
hey brother, i tried to go back and look at what the third wire was but i cant remember and cant see any identifying material on my footage, i dont remember it being too big of a deal and nothing confusing when I did it, but i believe one is labeled and was obviously not useful for my particular needs. If i come across the answer i'll let you know, thanks for the question Ray.
@@Matt014X thanks for the response Matt. I appreciate it I'm still trying to figure out what speakers to get for my 2015 JGC. I'm having a hard time deciding which ones to buy lol
Hey Ray, I found a manual for these speakers online and the third wore was for when it is used in a display scenario and is the positive lead... It was clearly labeled and that's why I didn't run into any confusion at the time! Pretty simple. Figured Id let you know because I came across it looking for something else.
When you say "will the factory tweeters fit back in stock location" and then reference the grille, I have to assume you are asking if the grille will fit over the tweeter. If that's in fact your question, I would have to assume that it is a case by case basis, and in the case of these Focal's it would be a no. The plastic of the tweeter sits over the tweeter and will not allow the original cover to still be there. If you had a tweeter that was recessed a little more It may allow the stock grille to stay. Thanks for the watch!
Hello. Have you ever done this on a Summit? Mine has a different design with the front speakers (yes, more than just one 6x9. ) behind a Harman-Karden) plate. I haven't tried it yet, but I wondered if it was possible to remove these without removing the door panel. Any comments are welcome on this subject.
Do you know if you really need the crossover that comes with the tweeter since the system is already component ready? BTW Thanks for the video! Helped with my installs
I would say you could probably get away without the crossover, but it filters out or blocks any frequency that the speaker isn't designed to reproduce and so from my point of view any little bit helps when trying for a high quality sound. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Hey Shannon, not exactly louder, no. Since the wattage is the same it pushes about the same when turned most of the way up, however with the better quality speakers I am able to get louder and clearer bass without the speakers distorting and so am able to turn it higher while still being able to maintain clear audio. So yes and no. If that makes any sense. Thanks for the comment
That looks like a lot of work, I want to do it on my 2020 Grand Cherokee.. But I wonder, you didn't put any dynamat or roadkill inside the door, where would I put it? And also, how about the foam around the speaker, isn't that important? And how hard would it be to add an amp to a base system with no amp? And where did you end up putting the Focal crossover, I didn't see it anywhere?
@@greenwood755 Um, what kind of harness did you use? I have the amp here but I just can't make myself do it. Where did you mount the amp? I'd like to put it behind the glovebox like the Alpine amp is in the stock amped system, and I need the wiring diagram for the uconnect 8.4 to keep all functionality, I don't want to run just off the fronts or rears, I want it as it would be if from factory. It's doable but not easy. I even got a high-level input amp, so each speaker wire will go to it's own channel from the unit to the amp, then from the amp to each speaker (also will be replaced with Kappas), which is very simple but the install itself is tough.
The crossover is a device that splits the audio signal being sent out to the speakers and it will cut out any frequency's lower than what the tweeter is designed to reproduce. So that only high frequency sounds go to the tweeter while mids and lows will be played through the woofer.... I think it's probably safe to assume that the signals coming from the factory head unit will already scrubbed but because the crossover came with the speakers and is designed for them I want to use them
Hi Matt, have you run Focals on original crossover? What about impedance. I read that woofer 6x9 is 2ohm and tweeter 6. What is the sound difference after upgrade? Have you done rear speakers upgrade on doors?
hey Michal, I used only factory conductors to the speakers, both the woofer and the tweeter. The Focals came with an inline crossover that will basically filter out frequencys that are too low or too high for the speaker to reproduce. I'm sure the factory system does a good job of this already being that they are feeding both a woofer and a tweeter already but wanted to include the focal crossover as well. the sound upgrade is excellent, the original speakers were very average and cant say they had much of a complete sound to them. I did not upgrade the rear doors just yet but may in the future. Thanks for asking
Hi is this a 6 speaker system? Did you leave in the factory crossover, Also did you do the back doors, if so what size are they? Only asking because I have a limited with the stock 6 speaker and looking to upgrade the speakers. Any info would help.
Hey Jim, I believe this is the 6 speaker system and did not replace or remove the factory crossover. I took the conductor leads that went to the speakers themselves and added the focal crossover then went straight to the tweeter or woofer. I have not done the rear doors yet but may plan to in the future, I cannot imagine it would be very difficult and probably much like changing the woofer in the front. It is not a very difficult job and I think you wouldnt have too much of a hard time replacing all the speakers.
Matt Sweeney Sounds great, is there a reason you went with the Focal brand versus like Kicker or Jbl or etc? Also when you decide on replacing the rears keep in touch. Got to do something, sound is not great, but not a lot of clear ideas, and changing out the 8.4 an out is not on the plan. Again thank you for the help. Jim
I’m trying to do the back doors right now in my 2017 Grand Cherokee called crutchfield and they said would have to drill new holes because it didn’t align properly.... ( so now I’m stuck because I don’t want to mess this up and just want to do it properly ) help lol
Haha going back and watching the video, it looks a bit rediculous I'll admit. The only thing I can think of is that the small crossover that came with the speaker only had terminals on the one side which connect directly to the woofer. The other side must have been just wire. But to answer your question, I'm not sure, it's just the way it worked out. Haha thanks for the comment

Good luck getting door panel back on!
Very nice job, about to put those speakers on xmas list. This video super helpful. Thank you for posting it.

Don’t take the Phillips head screw out of the door handle area
How many new rattles after taking the door panel apart and reassembling?
This is child's play my friend, don't be afraid to challenge yourself to getting a door panel off and on without making problems.
Where did you get the wire in diagram ?
what size are the tweeters because when I am looking to buy tweeters it's 3 size options 1 in 2 in or 25mm ?
Did changing the speakers make the system any louder?

Go to audio shop lmfao
Why do you need a crossover cable for the tweet? why not just directly positive and negative?

What the part number for the wire adapter
DrRhopnop Opldop of course!
It is a Metra 72-6514
They came with my crutchfield order, but can be bought for about $5 on Amazon.
