  • The Meke is similar, in concept, to the Hawaiian Hula in that it conveys history and cultural stories through song and movements. Unlike Hula, the female version of the Fijian dance is often performed by seated dancers. The male version is almost always performed standing as it demonstrates warrior-like motions and stories.
This was taken at a functioning Fijian village/cultural center along the Navua River.

Regardless what anyone thinks or replies to this video. It is Totoka Vaka Oti (Absolutely Fantastic!) This is how the Meke was traditionally performed.
It makes me proud as a Fijian to see it performed so beautifully.
These Fijian Ladies have the Grace and Elegance that brought this meke to life.
    Vinaka Vaka Levu Na Upload.

@KoiNadi - I am glad that you liked the video. My visit to the village was one of my favourite experiences of my trip to Fiji.

I saw some Meke dancing at Beachley barracks welfare yesterday and it was great to see it in person. Everyone was just very happy. I’d be glad to go to another Fiji day! 🇫🇯

@lewanavanua - Sorry for not having the full clip. I was just using a point-and-shoot camera not a video camera. Therefore, I was limited to just making clips.

@lewanavanua - We were not part of a tour group. We found a brochure for the Village visit at our hotel and decided to try it.

@lewanavanua - We stayed at the "Wellesley Resort Fiji". It was one of the nicest experiences I've ever had! The staff are genuinely friendly and the accomodations are great! It's not the liveliest place though so we would go down the beach to the "Crusoe's Retreat Fiji Islands" to party.
