You track Lars' double bass skill like this: Kill 'em All: Doesn't really know what he's doing. Ride the Lightning: Getting the hang of it. Master of Puppets: Pretty much got it. And Justice for All: Dyers Eve.
I can never get over the toms on this record....they're PERFECT. This would've been the perfect drum sound as a whole if it weren't for way the snare was mixed. It so damn distant compared to the rest of the kit, like they just used the room and overhead mics.
Late at night, all systems go You've come to see the show We do our best, you're the rest You make it real, you know There's a feeling deep inside that drives you fucking mad A feeling of a hammerhead You need it, oh, so bad Adrenaline starts to flow You're thrashing all around Acting like a maniac Whiplash Bang your head against the stage Like you never did before Make it ring, make it bleed Make it really sore In a frenzied madness, with your leathers and your spikes Heads are bobbing all around It's hot as hell tonight Adrenaline starts to flow You're thrashing all around Acting like a maniac Whiplash Here on stage The Marshall Noise is piercing through your ears It kicks your ass, kicks your face Exploding feeling nears Now's the time to let it rip, to let it fucking loose We're gathered here to maim and kill 'Cause this is what we choose The show is through, the metal's gone It's time to hit the road Another town, another gig Again we will explode Hotel rooms and motorways, life out here is raw But we'll never stop, we'll never quit 'Cause we're Metallica Adrenaline starts to flow You're thrashing all around Acting like a maniac
Not to mention his Oriental china that he abuses. His best kit was the one he used during the "Load" eras, that silver sparkle kit. A ride, two chinas, splashes, and crashes, oh my.
Actually, at this stage he hadn't really learned how to play double bass drums yet. By RTL he had though, and then things went well until about the time of TBA, when he got bored with playing them. After that he never seemed to be as good again. And today it seems like he can barely do it at all.
Lars was definitely sloppy on their first two albums; you can feel a slight improvement on "Master of Puppets", but that's not saying much. I'm sure that he needed multiple takes to record the drums for "... and Justice for all", especially for "Dyers Eve". Lars has always felt confident of his drumming on albums like "Metallica", "Load" and "Reload", because he's such an average drummer. Fuck him!
Comte de Rochefort He's not the best drummer by far. His footwork on RTL wasn't too bad. MOP's footwork was pretty good, but it wasn't featured very much. AJFA had the best footwork but it was pieced together. Lars is an amazing composer but his drumming has always been average.
Yeah, dude, but, at least the majority of the drummers that do that in the studio prove they can do it live flawlessly or nearly flawlessly. Lars is just a shitty drummer when he performs live. I can barely hear his bass drum and doesn't play the fills that add colour to the songs (I'm thinking the beginning of "Disposable Heroes", the somewhat complicated bit before the 3rd verse of "Blackened", the whole of "Call of Kthulu"). Why record something that you can't reproduce and even improve on live then? Metallica is a fucking pop band.

Kill 'em All: Doesn't really know what he's doing.
Ride the Lightning: Getting the hang of it.
Master of Puppets: Pretty much got it.
And Justice for All: Dyers Eve.
roundhousekicker88 ST Anger: Doesn't use a real drum kit XD
In ride the lightning he pretty much got it, listen to fight fire with fire, it has some double bass on it. Trapped under ice too.
Like all his drum tracks, “Dyer’s Eve” was dozens of takes spliced together. “Enter Sandman” is like 32 takes in one track.
+Charlie Wielowski
If you watch the live in studio version of st anger, lars played all the double bass pretty well.
@@SassierNewt Trapped Under Ice is almost double bass in the 90% of the song.
this is my tempo

METALLICA SONG WITH THIS CHANGE THE COURSE OF THRASH METAL, LARS ULRICH IS THE KING OF DRUMS, SORRY MY ENGLISH IS BAD, GREETINGS FROM ARGENTINA!
Escribiste todo bien excepto por *changed, así que bastante bien jajajaja
lars was like around 20 when this was recorded
i like how its mostly just passion playing, not so much skill
He was 19.
And he keep playing with more passion than skills
No he was nineteen back then but now he’s sixty
Lars hit more toms during the intro of this song than in the entire remainder of his career.
@Shallex trough the never, shortest straw, wheverer i may roam
In most of the songs he uses the toms, especially when he plays with them in bridges like Enter Sandman, King Nothing, Sanitarium and etc...
Do you mind dale crover would play better?
he uses a china as a ride, sometimes it sounds good other times its annoying as hell
He use to use a ride though
Late at night, all systems go
You've come to see the show
We do our best, you're the rest
You make it real, you know
There's a feeling deep inside that drives you fucking mad
A feeling of a hammerhead
You need it, oh, so bad
Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac
Whiplash
Bang your head against the stage
Like you never did before
Make it ring, make it bleed
Make it really sore
In a frenzied madness, with your leathers and your spikes
Heads are bobbing all around
It's hot as hell tonight
Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac
Whiplash
Here on stage
The Marshall Noise is piercing through your ears
It kicks your ass, kicks your face
Exploding feeling nears
Now's the time to let it rip, to let it fucking loose
We're gathered here to maim and kill
'Cause this is what we choose
The show is through, the metal's gone
It's time to hit the road
Another town, another gig
Again we will explode
Hotel rooms and motorways, life out here is raw
But we'll never stop, we'll never quit
'Cause we're Metallica
Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac
hes kinda sloppy but it sounds awesome
Where were all these drum tracks when I had to them for the cover band I used to be in.
Well, to me it sounds very good!!
For starters, I know you commented 3 years ago, but Lars knew how to play drums, but he wasn't good at it. He got better with time.
I still dont understand why he doesn't use a ride anymore. Hi hats only sound good for so long..
Not to mention his Oriental china that he abuses. His best kit was the one he used during the "Load" eras, that silver sparkle kit. A ride, two chinas, splashes, and crashes, oh my.
this songs sounds so badass just drums by itself. actually what am i saying, this song sounds badass regardless of what's being played.
no matter what they say, Lars is the master!!
doing a Video about Lars thats why im checking out going over Drum Tracks
@Aussiemetallica watch the documentary about metallica. when james met lars, lars didn't know how to play
hell ya man!! hes the one that made me fall in love with drums!
It's Dave Grohl
Actually, at this stage he hadn't really learned how to play double bass drums yet. By RTL he had though, and then things went well until about the time of TBA, when he got bored with playing them. After that he never seemed to be as good again. And today it seems like he can barely do it at all.
UPDATE hardwired came out and he became alright again
@@daltonmerrill9070 Wow, it's fun to be reminded of old comments like this. 10 years, holy shit. But yes, I agree with what you said.

So it seems he isn't just struggling with double bass today. He's always struggled.
Trapped Under Ice please...
Lmaoo im guessing you don't know anything about drums? it's ok tbh.İ didnt notice there was double báss on the intro until now.
It sounds fine to me
LARS ULRICH !
Dude that’s amazing 🤩
WHIPLASH!
@codyjt5150
listen to whiplash live at monsters of rock, it sounds almost exactly like it
Me too...
@jackjack3722 Needs More Cowbell.
@Warrior300000 Needs More Double Bass
does the begining remind anyone of hot for teacher?
Mine too!!!!
true dat but still awesome
True that.
Рифы играют в моей голове
Need's more drums.
Now Motorbreath?
Snare sounds better than in master of puppets
how did you get this ?
João Vaz most likely ripped from guitar hero
yes. We all know the correlation. You can stop with the tempo jokes.
Tempo is on point here
2:58 solo
I hear a dog lol!
not enough double bass. Need more double bass.
Watch the Metalhammer Fest in 1985 and there's more than enough double kick in this song. He double kicks throughout the entire first guitar solo.
agreed. hearing the china in its place too gets kind of annoying
the Meg White of metal
lol
sounds so... empty =)
is medicocre
ok smart pants...maybe you are better than Lars.
his foot work is sloppy
Comte de Rochefort Keep in mind this is their first album. They're maybe 22-24 and most definitely drunk.
Lars was definitely sloppy on their first two albums; you can feel a slight improvement on "Master of Puppets", but that's not saying much. Comte de Rochefort when you record a drum track you're not forced to do everything in one take.
A lot of drummers record drum track in pieces
Yeah, dude, but, at least the majority of the drummers that do that in the studio prove they can do it live flawlessly or nearly flawlessly. Lars is just a shitty drummer when he performs live.
