The number of tanks produced in the UK during the Second World War is surprising at first because one tends to associate the Soviet Union/T-34 or the US/Sherman with mass production, but the British Empire produced similar numbers of armaments to the US, except for shipbuilding.
Apart from missing the Little Willie (the first completed tank prototype in history) this is fantastic! Keep up the great work! Also, here’s a link to a Wikipedia page on the Little Willie in case anyone’s interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Willie Edit: Nevermind, I read the description. My bad.
The Sentinal was an Australian design not a British one. Also the Ram and Grizzly tanks were both Canadian designs, of which the Ram and Grizzly tanks were modifications of the M3 Lee and M4 Sherman respectively. The former of which the Ram, was built as the Canadians showed interest in producing the Lee, but the Lee was a stopgap design of which its main armament (75mm M2 or M3) was in a sponson mount, it had a high profile and was under-armoured and was therefore considered unsatisfactory for Canadian use. But in early 1941 the Canadian Interdepartmental Tank Committee developed a purposal to develop a superior design locally whilst still using the M3 chassis. Out of that came the Ram. The Canadians had ditched the original armament and gave it a new turret with a 57mm 6pdr gun. They also made the armour more effective by replacing the rivited armour plates with Cast homogeneous armour and gave the Ram a much lower profile than that of its original design. The latter of which the grizzly, was basically a Sherman built with entirely metal tracks as there was a shortage of rubber in Canada at the time (which in the American Sherman variants the tracks utilised rubber). You could argue that Australia and Canada were both dominions of the British Empire, but both nations were in technically independent from Britain as Canada had passed the British North American act on July 1st 1867 meaning that Canada was officially a established self-governing entity within the British Empire. And Australia had officially become a nation with six British colonies of Australia (New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania, all of which are now Australian states) united to become the Commonwealth of Australia on January 1st 1901. Just thought I'd put that out there.
