I so needed this. I'm coming out of a very long, sustained season of grieving the loss of my daughter to schizophrenia. (in addition to a long lineage of mental illness and a past that Satan loves to remind me of). Schizophrenia is a relentless, cruel illness that can destroy a once-happy family. Hearing Pastor Begg acknowledge suffering (William Cowper) felt like a compassionate hug to this brokenhearted momma. I long to have the joy of my salvation restored. Please pray for me and my family.

Driven every day all day in trials, one or another back to Jesus, my Savior, my Hope, my Redeemer. Guilt, Grace, Gratitude, Joy. Jesus is the Way, the only way in a broken world. This world unsustainable. Jesus sustains my life here. Gratitude for joy in Jesus, permanent, that day. Happiness created here, temporary. My cuzz, my friend, calls happiness, fleeting distractions from reality of a broken world, temporary.
Excellent, “Come, let us sing a Psalm and spite the devil”. Joy by faith. The devil is the author of all lies told daily of this world. God knows it and I know it because Jesus died for me. The devil can’t undo it, never. I spite the devil every day, Renewed, overcome every day, all day, through Jesus - Jesus is my Savior. Jesus is my joy. “Fight the good fight”.

Ravi Zacharias recounted a quote by a woman who fell away from the church. She said, "I'm happy, what more is there?" A lot. Happiness is temporal and based on the world going right, which it most often does not. As you say here, Joy is based in God and isn't temporal.
