It would be too loud up close but I'd enjoy hearing it in the distance. If I ever save enough money for a boat trip to England. Flying hurts my ears just as much as loud sounds. My ears have Pop Rocks in them when landing. Two trips to Florida to visit relatives was two plane trips too many. After that we went by train, which I enjoyed. I would like to visit Cambridge, various places in the countryside, Kensington Palace, Althorp, and Westminster Abbey. (Why not St. Paul's Cathedral as well, you wonder? Because that architecture gives me a headache. I love Gothic and Tudor architecture.)

My son is autistic and obsessed with Big Ben. I asked one of the Parliamentary staff if it would be possible to get closer to the Elizabeth Tower (explaining my sons condition) and they very kindly let us in to the area under the Tower and gave us a brief behind the scenes tour. If you speak to your MP however they can organise the same, including up inside the tower when they finish the refurbishment work.
