To those of you who are wondering: Why is no one playing this? Seems fun, right? The multiplayer component of the game was advertised as a Quake-like Arena shooter at first, but when it launched people complained that the multiplayer was too much Halo-like. Yes, there are loadouts, and yes there are demons that you can trasform into. But that wasn't the real problem. The demons were horribly broken, at the point that just one skilled demon could score more than 20 points in a deathmatch by himself. And also, in the beginning there wasn't much to play with: just team Deathmatch, Warpath, Freeze Tag and Clan Arena. No deathmatch, no Soul Harvest, no Sector, none of that. The runes that you see in this video? They were not added during the first months of the game. We had to wait for balance patches after 6 months, because the SSG used to kill really easily, and the same could be said for the rocket launcher. What pisses me off is that people never gave a chance after that to this multiplayer. The servers are almost empty, and in order to find someone that is still playing, you have to rely to the awful matchmaking that makes you play against people that are 200 or more levels stronger than you.
Eh. While I agree that loadouts don't belong it didn't matter cuz the gameplay was so fun. I always saw the demons as a unique Doom version of a buff like Quad Damage. Too many players compared the game to Quake from what I saw. People don't realize that straight up regular Arena Shooter is just completely outdated and needs additional mechanics to make it more interesting in today's market.

What needs to be done is have communities be more open to having more people playing arena shooters as in stop with the elitism and toxicity same kind of mentality exists with fighting games actually. That's why the genre is practically dead in comparison to every other fps genre. Funny how I saw IGN's review about Doom 2016 and they've mentioned how formulaic the multiplayer was. But then again they've rated every Call of Duty like a 9 or above so take it for what you will.
The multiplayer had serious issues and anyone saying that critique isn't fair did not play it at launch or is an absolute fanboy. Game did NOT have runes, had far fewer gadgets and weapons with extremely simplistic maps (almost all of the good ones were DLC) horrible broken demons and a loadout system that basically made every game "switch between super shotgun and rocket launcher/gauss with very basic aim for every fight" and it got old fast. Unlocks were entirely randomized as far as cosmetics go and it lacked leaderboards and meaningful things like challenge-specific unlocks to give you anything to push for. I still liked it, but anyone pretending that it wasn't outdone by most shooters that had been launching for the 6-8 years prior to it releasing is delusional. There is a reason the servers were empty on most platforms within a couple months and a reason it was not brought back for Eternal.
I think they really had no reason to believe it should return with just how many people dumped on the 2016 MP when the game was new. Those of us that enjoyed it just played and enjoyed. Those that didn't like it were the most vocal.
@@PNDKM I absolutely loved it so thank you for uploading this as a reminder of its presence. I was one of the first Echelon X and XI's on the PS4. I used to play with Lord Falcon and Aim-Raged. It was refreshing because the game gave me some of the Classic Halo experience I have been missing since Halo: 3 was retired.
2016's multiplayer with all it's weapons (esp. The Reaper and Vortex Rifle, my favorite combo) and Quake's Lightning gun was an amazing experience. A highly underrated experience. I was bummed when it wasn't a part of Doom Eternal.
Even though I got a lot of love for Eternal's solo, I really wonder what prompted them to do that weird asymmetrical THREE players mode rather than the tried and true arena shooter formula of 2016. I actually often praise novelty and original ideas, it's always good when games get creative... But I sort of feel like they should have kept both if they truly wanted to have that "Demons vs Slayer" mod. Because there's just no way it replaces that great, zany action you can find in a good arena shooter mod.
I was super excited to see multiplayer when I first saw eternal but was kinda disappointed with the new multiplayer style, I mean that could have been a game mode but I guess not 🤷🏻♂️

You can still finds groups. It takes a while to find a group sometimes but as soon as you get in, just don't break the chain and you can play for hours in a row
If you look closely you can see that one of the Sentinels behind Valen in the Immora cutscene is holding the Lightning Gun. Doesn’t really make sense because that’s a UAC weapon but still cool.
I miss this multiplayer even though it was flawed. Sadly, the servers are dead and I can't find a single match on Xbox. Battlemode got old *very* fast by comparison

The absolute best part was the vortex rifle sniping and the demon mode. I mean glory kills and transforming into a freaking demon IN MULTIPLAYER? What more does anyone want. I mean the demons were a bit overpowered but that never stopped it from being one of the best experiences of that time. Truly one of the most underrated and underappreciated and slept on games for real. In my opinion Doom 2016 deserved game of the year instead of that joke of a game overwatch
So underrated. I used to destroy in this game! Only real ones know. I hated the load outs at first, but once you get good with a setup you just get out and rip. I do think they should have put more weapon pickups in the maps and allowed you to grab enemy weapons, but oh well 🤷♂️
This is what doom eternal should have had. My favorite loadouts are Combat and SS with Teleporter Static and Combat with Frag Sniper And Combat with Mine 🙂
I really want to play a multiplayer match. Ive never played it and im not very good at doom. But im able to get a couple of kills, ive only ever been able to play against bots and i wish i could just play online :(
i wish the multiplayer aspect got on more. Yeah it's got loadouts and doesn't have the mobility of Quake, but it's the perfect way to introduce the arena shooter genre to the current generation of players.
I played the closed beta for this back on my Xbone days i loved it those days the beta were out was the most i played off it, when release came out i didnt play it much and i regret it now, I mostly played the custom map stuff and the campaign, been thinking about buying it on PC but i just know ill get destroyed.
I didn't play doom 2016 until I saw a Speedrun a little while before eternal came out wish I'd of got into it earlier that actually looks pretty good I'd way rather play that over cod or overwatch
Loved it back in the day. Didn't stick around long cause there weren't any leaderboards and I couldn't get my friends to stick around. Definitely flawed with the emphasis just being on weapon swapping with pretty easy to aim guns. Having 2 weapon loadouts vs pickups in the map surely makes it less intimidating for newcomers but made the flow of combat kind of bland. Still, I must have spent 50+ hours blasting people away for those first couple months after launch inbetween my Ultra Nightmare attempts. Good times :)
Still upset they didnt have any multiplayer modes like the 2016 game in Eternal, the only big mistake ID software made. I know the multiplayer was flawed, but they could've easily fixed it all in Eternal.

I really enjoyed this MP for the weekend I dumped into it. It lost me after a while though. Too focused on grinding with no real incentive to get better. Just make an OP load out and go to town. The charm wears off quickly. It's too bad that AFPS is a dying genre with no devs willing to take up the torch without using it simply for nostalgia sake (DUSK ) or trying remake Quake/UT in their own vision instead of something original (DBT) D16 got close to scratching that itch, but never quite hit the mark imo, and D:E didn't even try. UT has long since been in the grave, and Saber are basically holding QC hostage so who knows where Quake itself is actually going. I doubt we'll ever see a proper original breakout AFPS ever again, just derivatives of Quake 3 Arena that die within a year. I hope I'm wrong.
Everything goes in cycles. The fact you’re talking about AS rn and this was uploaded and even that I’m commenting about it shows that we all still love them. The new kids just haven’t ever played a proper one. I feel like the time will come when the battlefields and cods and battle royales will be done. Someone will present an arena shooter as a “new fast-paced alternative” where you “grab weapons on the go just like in battle royale” 😂
splitgate is looking good, not quite the same, but an arena (kinda) shooter getting fortnite numbers on twitch & player count, it could mean devs start going back to afps, maybe even epic might look back in UT😳
Is it worth picking this game up for the MP while its on sale , seems to me it plays much more like quake than og doom and I love quake , but quake champions is pretty much dead and only hardcore tryhards are left
it is a good idea battlemode the mode but how high level PC players have modded it with a heap of reworks and rebalances does show it has its issues, i enjoy both
Man lot of hate for battlemode in the comments :( they're both totally different beasts and not really comparable. Probably people hate battlemode is because it has a little higher learning curve than most death matches and the matchmaking doesn't help at all but MAN are people sleeping on battlemode. When you find equal level demons or slayer then no mode can beat the fun and the satisfaction battlemode gives you.
the most fun i have had in a player vs player is battlemode more so demon side working with my friend in VC to take down a slayer with better FPS fundamentals, also tenemode on PC a modded battlemode is a good upgrade

Late, but try to play around 7-8 PM european Time or same US Time, you'll find people, there are cheaters roaming tho

Load team play and you will find a match in less than a minute

You can always keep an eye on the floor as it opens up but yeah the random timers really bothered me :(

When you find equal level demons or slayer then no mode can beat the fun and the satisfaction battlemode gives you.
the most fun i have had in a player vs player is battlemode more so demon side working with my friend in VC to take down a slayer with better FPS fundamentals, also tenemode on PC a modded battlemode is a good upgrade

This is one of my favorite shooters of all time. I stopped playing it because every game had cheaters. Is the cheating problem still bad? Does anyone know?
i wasnt able to find a single match in any mode so yeah you could say there is no cheater

@@moreyoandinoruiz6833 There are only 2 multiplayer trophies you need to get the platinum: win a match and get to level 5. The rest is mostly campaign.
