      That's right!! And the Golden Oak Leaves was also the final stage of Knights Cross, not the Diamonds.

      His book infantry attacks is the most exciting book I have ever read and is still used in officer schools around the world today. The 20th century Hannibal.

    Fantastic. I was surprised how late in the war some of these men recieved their award.

      Not for Ferdinand Schörner ! He was a disgrace, the monster who ordered several men& boys to be shot on the spot for "so called" desertion but on the end the coward deserted himself in civilian clothes leaving his men behind. He was a big Nazi and friend of Hitler that's why he got it.

      Kurt Knipsel didn’t even receive the Knights Cross. He didn’t toe the nazi line - so wasn’t in favour with the leadership

      Knispel never even was awarded the RK. Much less anything else. That was a crime of omission.

      @@theodorebennett7938 Because Knispel was a troublemaker who didn't care to obey rules he didn't consider useful and not shy criticizing superiors when he thought them wrong. If he hadn't been such a superlative tank ace he could well have ended up court martialed.

    Some of these men are well-known, & what they did to earn this award, BUT…some of these men I’ve never even HEARD of! There’s a few Field Marshals in there, & a cpl Luftwaffe men I’ve no CLUE what they did to receive this medal!

    I used to own both service dress and dress uniform of Lt. General Dr Karl Mauss, 26th holder of the Diamonds. Sold both in 2000 . One sold last year for $75,000 dollars!. Quite a bit more than I got for them.

    Wolfgang Luth, once commanded U 181, one of the highest decorated U Boats of WWII. It later went on and sank the ship my grandfather was master of. I met 12 vets fro that U Boat including Johannes Limbach-an RKT on that U Boat.

      @@boombl443 YTSB's stupidity never ceases. They try to change history because of insane ""guidelines."" History SHOULD be presented as it actually was? Why not mention that millions of Gews were led onto cattle cars-when it seems to be sanitized and thusly; changes history.
