I think one of the most helpful thing that came out of this video for me was how you defined a “low GPA”. I had no idea how to put my current or target GPA into perspective.
I just found your videos and they’re incredibly informative. I have a little different situation than some applicants, and I’ve been wondering how my background will affect my chances. I just graduated with my DPT and I’m wondering how this will affect my chances of getting in? My undergraduate GPA was a 3.68 but my graduate GPA was 3.9. Thanks!
Hi there! Without knowing more about your MCAT score or extracurriculars, it's difficult to predict your chances. That being said, you'll want to be sure to thoughtfully explain how your experience as a DPT led you to medicine in your application materials.
Hey I just finished my first year of college with a 3.0 gpa. I had a 2.3 gpa my first semester and a 3.56 gpa my second semester. Do you think that I should feel concerned ?
First off, I really like your video series on med school admissions. I came across this video and felt that it described me as an applicant. I am a non-traditional applicant. I do not have a stellar overall GPA (3.34) but I do have a strong sGPA (3.91) and my last 49 credit hours of post-bacc classes is a 4.0. I also have a fairly strong graduate school GPA (3.83). I do have a legitimate reason for my drop in GPA my last couple semesters of undergrad as I was helping take care of a terminally ill parent. Other than nailing the MCAT, do you have any other quick tips to help overcome that low GPA?
Congrats on achieving a 4.0 in your post-bacc program! Developing a realistic school list will help you maximize your odds of receiving an acceptance. Where you apply is perhaps the single most underrated part of the admissions process.
@@Shemmassian Hello yes I know but my gpa is 3.02 and it's making me incredibly insecure about applying to med school , I still have a year and MCAT to do in January. is there anything u recommend? besides extracurricular because Im already done with those. thank you in advance so much
@@sparklebubbles8779 I have two options First pray for God for guidance,I hope you get through with your medical journey... 1) Apply to St George's university or Ross university, these are Caribbean medical schools that are accredited in the US 2)Study REALLY hard to ace the MCAT.
Hello! I have been binge watching your video series. Thank you for providing insightful and concise information. Do you happen to have advice for non traditional students? I am one such student trying to navigate myself along this path.
You're so welcome! Glad you're finding the information valuable. You can view our guide for non-traditional students here: www.shemmassianconsulting.com/blog/non-traditional-medical-student
Don’t do Caribbean schools. I repeat no island schools. Better to be in the usa with a do than Caribbean md. Its near impossible to specialize and even getting a pcp residency match is tough. Look at their match rates for st. George and ross. Horrifying.
Chant safe and effective. Let them know there isn’t a cdc protocol you would ever question. Does not hurt to let them know you can be part of the zombie hoard of physicians that are devoid of critical thinking skills. The low gpa will go a long way to telling the admissions folks your the perfect med school candidate.

I find your videos to be so informative. Thank you!
Thank you for leaving the positive encouragement! Stay safe out there!!
Very informative, thank you!
I got low grades but I got to take IT and I have degree in IT but can I get into medical school with the IT degree with the secondary school result?

Hi! You have an upward trend so that's promising. Keep improving and you will have proven to AdComs that you have righted your academic ship. :)

Hi Sparkle! Perhaps we're not on the same page here; we're referring to GPA, which stands on a range of 0.00 - 4.00.

Thanks.
Does your website have any info that pertains to high school kids aiming for a med school?
Your content is awesome. Do you provide any kind of videos on applying for residency?

You should just label all of your videos: "Common Sense"
